The only problem is parking. they used to have a circle drive that would cause many problems as the school grew. This problem prompted the school district to tear down the school and rebuild it, maximizing the lot space and building a bigger school. This time around it will have a larger amount of parking lot and 2 stories to accommodate for the growing population around it. Great school, great people, great experience!

Having taken…read more4 year of art classes in high school in Shreveport Louisiana I had been lucky enough to have gotten a good foundation in art early with dedicated teachers. While in Louisiana I had some newspaper articles written about my art while there. When I first arrived at the Art Institute in 1965, I move into the then new dormitory with a excellent cafeteria and dinning area that impressed me. However, dorm life was a disappointment since I had to share the room with a roommate that had no intentions of finishing the semester and I had one these guys for my first two semesters. Both boys (they never grew up) were always having friends over (who also were quitting) so they were drinking and partying in the room at all hours of the night. I was forced to go downstairs and study in the dinning area to get my work done. I was disappointed in the Art Institute, first in my Foundation Training in that from what art work I saw that my instructors had done reminded me of my first year in high school art. However, I had never liked English or History in high School but I love attending both of these classes taught by Roy Culver (English) and John Burke (History) . My second year I started my major Industrial Design thinking about being a car designer or at least product designer. Again, I was disappointed in the teaching and had a strong feeling that my teacher who was also the Dean John Lotus really had no experience teaching Industrial Design. I also noticed that there were many manufacturing companies in Kansas City at the time that were probably using Industrial Designers but we were never exposed to these companies and those companies more than likely never knew there was a Industrial Design department at the Art Institute. The final straw and the reason I dropped out of the Art Institute was a story told to our Industrial Design class mid term of my second semester. I was already wondering what I was doing at the Art Institute when one morning Dean Lotus came into the classroom with a big smile on his face and told us that he had received a phone call from one of his best students that had graduated the year before and that the student had gotten a great job. After a long story about how great the student had been while a student at the Art Institute our Dean told us that this student had gotten a job in Minnesota with a big manufacture called Church they manufactured toilet seats. I said nothing and finished the class then walked to the Resistor Office and resigned. I was drafted into the Army 90 days later and later sent to Vietnam. I did get the job as an Technical Illustrator and stationed in Saigon where I not only helped put out a magazine there (GRUNT Magazine) that turned out to be quit popular and even today issues are for sale on the internet and even some colleges have it in their archives. I was assigned to a photo unit and we sometimes made ID photos for American construction contractors and after talking to them I decided to change employment directions. When I left Vietnam I when back to LSU in Louisiana and got a degree in Engineering and 4 months after graduation I got a job with a oil company working in New Guinea, I never stopped from that point working in Thailand, Sumatra, Vietnam, Bahrain, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Nigeria. Frist I will say that my early art education taught me to think outside the box that had been an asset in my professional life enabling to solve engineering problems that were though impossible before. I went on to being a Project Manager on my last $6billion project in Nigeria before retiring in Thailand where I am writing this review at 76.

My family volunteered, took on odd jobs and were most grateful for this place in the four fab Fowler kids' upbringing. Once they went to public schools, the memorization, phonics based reading education and clear tried and true lessons in math history drama and science taught by passionate instructors was instrumental in their superb public school habits and grades. Love SCA which was 'Lees Summit Community Christian School' back then!

We…read morebegan in 2016 when our first child was entering preschool just part-time and had the most welcoming wonderful experience. It was such a great experience that the next year we moved her into five days. The next year pre-K, kindergarten and then added child number two and eventually child number three. We have got to experience many different styles of teaching, grades, and also how it's different between girls and boys but one clear message is the same: that you are loved and that God loves you. The Education is excellent. It's also really fun to see organized sports, arts and extra curricular activities beginning within the school at the early ages too! We have loved it, and if you quickly do the math for three children, you can easily see that it is beyond worth it to us!!!

I have 3 very different children. One was in the enrichment program . Another one is special needs. It doesn't matter where my kids are academically, the resources are there for them to advance and learn. The teachers and staff care for the students and are willing to work with the parents and take the extra mile for the child's benefit. I feel very fortunate. I worked very hard on my work and did well. I however DID NOT graduate high school because Virtually learning math and physics isn't for everyone. This is not the reason I'm writing this review. I have the school itself 5 stars for being up to date, and possible to do. The staff is very helpful and Tammy Potts is the golden girl! She dedicated time and energy into every student. I feel she deserves the highest pay a teacher can possibly earn. She guided me through so many papers and she taught me MLA format. However, I am here to complain about the director Nicole Hodges. She works very hard and it is her objective to keep order. She's a very cold unfriendly woman. I was talking in the classroom to a friend of mine as we took a break from the six hours we've sat still working. There were mothers in the classroom with screaming babies and I made a comment on the fact that they need to be in daycare and not my learning environment. Nicole overheard my conversation and pulled my friend in the office to gather information on what I said and then she called me in. First she demanded my name and she scolded me harshly for judging someone. I apologized and I was ready to move on. I went back to work on my paper. Then she called me back into her office with my grades pulled up. She expressed to me that I was "Lucky to be apart of the program" I was several credits behind due to the fact that I had turned in three credits that day and my work was not graded yet. She was sure that I felt small for what I said. In fact she went into Jan's office and closed the door to talk about what I had just done. I heard them talking about how I should apologize to the class and be excused for the day. I decided to wait the next few hours outside for my mom to pick me up. I cried to my mother and told her that I never wanted to go back to that school and I don't want that woman to have the pleaser of handing me my diploma. My mother called and Nicole refused to talk to my mother without Jan present. Nicole then demanded to ask my mother what my version of the story was and my mother said it didn't matter because I apologized for my wrongdoing and Nicole took a swing at me by pulling up my transcripts once she learned my name. I am still angry with her for that terrible experience. There was another instance where I was in class and a young lady came in with her father to sign out of school. Her plans were to get her GED and enroll in college the next semester instead of her two year plan with basehor virtual school. Nicole refused to sign her out because she doesn't approve of dropping out at all. The father raised his voice and said that he's tired of her and he complained about his past experiences with her as well. I know all this because it was s huge scene in the classroom. Nicole threatened to call the police if they continued to press the subject and did not leave. That's when I took my que and left. I didn't enroll in time in 2013 to complete my last year of school. I'm still bothered by Nicole. She may run a tight ship, but she's not good at encouraging or motivating struggling students. She's very stringent and cruel. I don't have anything nice to say about Jan either. They both are blunt and bold. Tammy Potts is the MVP. She always took care of me and helped me succeed. I got the privilege to say goodbye to her and leave what seemed to be the worst part of my life. Everyday that Nicole was there I was afraid to talk in the classroom or be in her presents alone. I'm not sure what will come of this review or who will see it, I feel Basehor is a wonderful school and the education is amazing quality. -Madeline

I had the great honor of attending Midwest Trust Center Concert Series featuring the world renowned…read moreMaster Trumpeter Chris Botti himself. Omgudness what a phenomenal Wednesday night! The venue is perfect for concerts, plays etc. and every seat is a good seat. I first saw Mr. Botti in concert years ago and I thought I would literally lose it. He tore that trumpet up. I have never heard a trumpet sound THAT good, ever! HE is the very reason I fell in love with it. My instrument of love was always the saxophone, but honey all that changed after hearing this cat. He also happens to have the coldest band ever and is such a brilliant yet caring person. He provides opportunities for other phenomenal musicians to play with him from all over the world...not everyone does that...talk about unselfish, it's very admirable. If you happen to love jazz and haven't seen this gentleman in concert check out Mr. Botti's website where you will find his bio and tour information. Certainly a Class Act!
