I had the great honor of attending Midwest Trust Center Concert Series featuring the world renowned Master Trumpeter Chris Botti himself. Omgudness what a phenomenal Wednesday night! The venue is perfect for concerts, plays etc. and every seat is a good seat. I first saw Mr. Botti in concert years ago and I thought I would literally lose it. He tore that trumpet up. I have never heard a trumpet sound THAT good, ever! HE is the very reason I fell in love with it. My instrument of love was always the saxophone, but honey all that changed after hearing this cat. He also happens to have the coldest band ever and is such a brilliant yet caring person. He provides opportunities for other phenomenal musicians to play with him from all over the world...not everyone does that...talk about unselfish, it's very admirable. I got hurt on the campus and had to drop out last 2 weeks as well of school and they wouldn't let me appeal on fafsa due to my back injury. There not adhd friendly as well read more

The School is great if you don't sign up for a program. I signed up for the Graphics Design program and literally have 8 classes left to finish the program but none of the 8 classes I need is ever available. The classes are not full, the school just never offers the class that I need to continue the program. The credits I have don't transfer anywhere else so instead of 2 yrs at JCCC, I'm going into five due to these classes never being available. It's really frustrating and annoying. I keep getting told if it's not available in the fall it will be offered in the spring and that is all a lie. It wasn't available in the fall of 2023 and now not available in spring of 2024. This is a waste of time and money. I wish I can have a refund and look at a different school. Make sure to choose wisely if you choose this school. read more

I really like JCCC. I've been taking a series of continuing education classes here (jewelry making) since February, and while it took me longer than I anticipated to finish my first project, I absolutely learned a lot, and have been having a lot of fun. The teacher really knows her stuff, and holds the students to a high level of quality. Your jewelry pieces will look professional when they're done, and they will also be as close to perfect as you can get with a handmade item. The class sizes are kept small so that there's more one on one time, and everyone in the classes have been really friendly. Making new friends while I make jewelry? That's a win in my book. Class costs are reasonable, but you will have to buy your own supplies, which can get costly. However, our teacher is all about frugality as well, so she was great about helping us find out where to get quality supplies at a good price, and also very helpful when it came to helping us select what we actually need so that we don't buy unnecessary items. There are a lot of demos in the particular classes I have been taking, so students get to see a variety of techniques and materials being worked on - even if it's not something you NEED to learn for yourself, I think it's a good experience to see what other people are doing, and how they are progressing because you never know when you might be doing something similar. The JCCC website is easy to use, and I have utilized it each time I sign up for a new class. Any time class info has changed for any reason (such as when a class was postponed), I have been promptly notified by email. The parking garage can be a little bit dark and dodgy, so I would suggest parking on the upper levels which let a little more light in. I can see myself sticking with making jewelry, and the classes associated with it for a good long time, and I think that JCCC is a quality place to learn a new skill. I liked everything about the college, but there are a lot of discrimination by some of the nursing program instructors and professors. If you are an immigrant be careful, well in my case, I still feel too bad about the school because I do not think that their attitude toward my performance was poor. Do not recommend for Immigrants or people who race is different (on their opinion). Sorry, there are some good professors, too. Thus I added two stars only for them who were supportive and professional, and did not care about the people's rates. I still cannot believe how much of discrimination I had from some of the professors, only immigrants can understand what I am saying now. I had to take a couple classes at JCCC on my way to my Bachelors. I enjoyed my teachers and classmates, found parking, though sometimes it was a quarter-mile from class, and had access to eatable food in between classes. There's also the Nerman and the Carlsen Center here, which are great treasures for the community. read more

My review is for the JCCC auditorium. I saw a Viennese Christmas performance here over the weekend, and I was blown away. The auditorium is very nice, large, and fancy. I cannot believe that was a community college, or any college for that matter. The seats for comfortable, the show sounded great, the ushers were helpful. I think Johnson County Community College is one of the best community colleges out there. I am currently getting some pre-requisites out of the way before I transfer to KU for molecular bioscience. The resources offered me as a student is so great. They have a Science and Math Resource Center for studying independently, or for students who have questions after class, you are able to ask the tutors for assistance. If you are considering classes here my only recommendation would be to look at RateMyProffesor online and read the reviews thoroughly when choosing a teacher. The reason I am not giving this place 4 stars is for two reasons. Reason one is because the science resource center is not as equipped as it could be. Reason two if you are on your way to getting your degree from a university and you are doing some prerequisites at JCCC make sure to meet with your university's academic counselors, not JCCC's. I have been told by several people (and experienced myself) that they have received different information than what KU has said. Besides that, this is a great community college! read more

For the most part the instructors and classes are pretty great. They have a good online program with most of the instructors being involved in the learning process. As with any institution, you will get some awful ones on occasion. The bookstore staff is great, very friendly and helpful. They lack seriously in the various departments office staff. Rude, condescending, and overall just an attitude of not wanting to be bothered, especially if you call in needing something. I understand they have to deal with a bunch of know it all students, but that is their job and if they can't deal with it and treat people kindly who call with legit questions and needing help, they probably should look for other jobs. Overall, great school, perfect if you can get through without having to deal with any office staff! read more

In general I think this is a great school. However, I would steer clear of the graphic design program. I started there and honestly the faculty are not very helpful or professional. I feel that I wasted so much time and money with them. I finally changed my major and went on to have a great experience at the school. I just wanted to let other people know that program is lacking. read more

Jccc is a wonderful school. They helped me transfer to the University of Kansas after two years, saving me thousands of dollars. Since then I have been accepted to graduate school at UC Merced. I couldn't have done it without Jccc! Shout-out to their wonderful philosophy department. read more

Dear JCCC, I am from California. Here, we can take classes for $12 to $17 a unit. For the price it costs to take a single class here, one could take an entire semester at any of our semi-esteemed institutions. I went here as a last resort, but I would HIGHLY reccommend STUDYING to anyone considering JoCo as a school; suck it up and go to KU, K State or UMKC. It's a few extra bucks, but do you really want to waste your time here ? Also, our faculty are just plain better. I took an English class here and listened to the instructor drone on and on about what he likes to eat, what he does for fun, where he works out, what his wife said the other day that was funny. Good thing he mentioned his birthday (July 8, the day after mine) so I was able to realise that he's not actually insane, he's just a Cancer. And we're all insane, but I digress. Like me, the teachers here were unable to stay on track and on time. I frequently got out of class late or left feeling as though I'd learned nothing at all. The cafeteria is nice, albeit lacking in healthy choices. I didn't have any friends at this school so I was forced to occupy an entire large table by myself. I would suggest adding loner tables for transplants like me. I did like your parking, with the large lot and no charge or permits. However, you might notice that by charging a parking permit fee, you could lower tuition cost and people like me will bitch about it and park across the street at Hen House. Your libraries are nice, and the indoor school kinda feel was a big kick for me. I'd never had a snow day before, but thanks to JCCC, I can say that I have ! I got my first Associates here in 2003 and it was small then compared to what it is growing into now. I am back for more learning and it almost seems like a totally new school. However, it still remains friendly and with great quality staff. I have never gotten a horrible professor. I always leave a class feeling as I have learned more than I can fit into my brain. However, I have always taken classes in the evening, which is more of the adult / working students. Last time I was here I did not own a cell pone. This time around I must say that I have not had a problem getting a signal for talking or internet (using wifi on phone is too much hassle). This school just continues to get better and better. Contacting any office or teacher through email has been very efficient with quick reply's. Staff seems to be up to date. Angel is a great online service many professors use. I will agree with the bookstore not being in stock for the amount of students that they have applying for the courses. I had to wait on financial aid. So I was not able to get books until a couple days before classes began. One of my books was not available until a mere few hours before class, of which I was racing to get homework done that was due that day, in between my other classes. Or they say they offer 4GB flash drives and only having 8GB in stock. I wanted to just go to Walmart but was warned to not buy Scandisk flash drives. Their computers/software do not like them. They do put on great shows often in the auditorium. They are open to the public. Also they offer Friday movies still. Free popcorn. read more

Good school amazing amount of funding better than most private universities as far as facilities go to Kansas City area professors are header mess but they are all colleges. For a community college, 4/5, just because it is far from where I live in Johnson County & parking is TERRIBLE. Otherwise, a top five community college in the Continental United States:)! read more

I am about to graduate with my Associates from Johnson County Community College. I love this school. Credits transfer practically ANYWHERE because the curriculum is so similar to a University curriculum. The Astronomy department is small, but the best equipped in the state, despite it being a community college. Many people don't know this, but JCCC has an observatory on the roof the CLB. The same goes for the Photography department. The Professors there are actual professionals. One of whom was Iriving Penn's assistant for many years in New York, and lived and worked in France for ten years. The Honors Composition classes at JCCC are AMAZING. I never thought I'd like a Professor that drove me to work on an assignment during every spare moment of my free time, but by God, I would sign up for it again and again. Of course Yardley Hall and the Polsky Theater are beautiful. The science-art combination of shows they put on there are out of this WORLD. I am in school for photojournalism and photography in general. I would never suggest going to any other Community College. JCCC has been a privilege to attend, I don't see any reason why people would not give it five stars. My friends and are always talking about how fantastic it is. read more

This college has so much to offer but the dental hygiene program might be a little known jewel in Johnson County. Having my teeth cleaned by a student takes more time but it's worth it. The student is under constant supervision, the clinic is very clean, the oral exam is extensive, and for the cleaning and x-rays the total is $10.00. They cut no corners and instructors check their work. Plus, they will forward the x-rays to your dentist. They even send you home with a new toothbrush and dental floss. I understand the importance of good oral care and dental health. When time permits this is a true value and while it's a big benefit to me and I'm saving money, I'm happy to know a student is learning something at the same time. read more

Jccc is a great college. I always use "ratemyprofessor" website to choose instructors. It does NOT fail to amaze me. Jccc is huge, has access to everything. A lot of parking & even police protected. I love the carlsen center it's so quite I can study there. & they have resources for pretty much any class you take like math & science & english, etc. The staff are very friendly & I love the library they are so helpful (I once asked her to find me a place where I can print business cards for cheap, & the lady sat with me & looked on the computer & other places). Most of the instructors I have had are good. Just make sure to read reviews about them in the internet before you take em. Also jccc offers job opportunities for students. I worked as a student ambassador there. Amazing experience. & jccc has a cafe & a museum & water fountains & vending machines spread out in every building. The restrooms get cleaned almost hourly never had an issue with smell or water problems etc. Just I think of it as a college that provides everything a student needs. read more

I purchased one of the $20 mini courses that JCCC offers in their continuing education section. It was just a 10 minute video! I expected it to be a basic overview for the price, but $2 per minute is a major rip-off. I recommend the you take one of the free webinars offered by KU. They are FREE, 45 minute, live sessions where you can actually ask questions and interact with people. read more

JUCO is a great school to go to start off with for college. I was unsure what career I wanted to persue, so instead of spending thousands of dollars at a university, I went to JUCO to try some different classes out and see what I liked and didn't like carreer wise. The classes are small and the teachers are great and always willing to try and help you. Not only is it inexpensive, but there are many programs at JUCO that will help you deicide what carreer path you might be interested in taking in the future. read more

Do not assume federal student loans will be available to you! It will be a costly and disruptive mistake. If you have any other attempted or completed education at any other college or university DEMAND to fill out the PACE Appeal form available from financial aid then wait 3 months for processing. Otherwise, this school will cancel your federal student loans on you a week before classes start leaving you with no other options than cancel enrollment or pay with a credit card. Complaints of the last minute enrollment and financial aid cancelation are not acknowledged by the school president s office. Be aware this #$%$ is considered normal customer service at this school. I am a middle-age adult. I moved up to KC on my credit cards to attend THIS SCHOOL as it had the BEST program available in KS for my field of study. I attended the Diversiadad Conference today for the second year and it just keeps getting better. Melissa Jimenez and everybody else involved puts on a first rate event! The breakout sessions, guest speakers, and the lunch are excellent and always generate a lot of great discussion. Definitely coming back next year read more
