Delicious food cooked at Old City Kitchen.

What an amazing night at Old City Kitchen! We booked the Thai Night class and had an absolutely great night. We were greeted by Chef Taylor and Justin, who immediately made us feel welcomed. The class was small, only 6 of us! We learned basic kitchen knife techniques and how to make the most amazing Thai food from start to finish! We will definitely book another class. We'll worth it.

Server was an absolute gem. Helped guide us to order authentic Philly cheesesteaks and curated our dining for the most up to date local options. The food was exactly as she predicted it would be: get the onions, add the ketchup. Locals and tourists alike sat in pleasant, clean air conditioned comfort in their old style Italian pizzeria environment. Would go back.

How fun! We came as a company event and had such a blast. Chef Ed was great, letting us get our hands dirty while doing most of the cooking. The wine was flowing, the food kept coming. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would recommend to anyone!

First time at Old City Kitchen and it was super fun. We were welcomed w cheese plates, airy focaccia and crusty Italian bread & our choice of Red or White wine. We were seated directly in front of the Chef for the class which consisted of 3 different handmade pasta and sauce recipes. Chef was funny and skilled & We sampled all of the dishes ! Everyone there seemed to be on a date but this was just as much fun w a friend. Will definitely be back !!!

Can't rave about Ed's Pasta 101 Class enough! This is a great intro to pasta making course that goes through many different pasta shapes (2 doughs) and 3 different sauces. It is interactive in forming making the pasta shapes while Ed does the cooking. He's super friendly and knowledgeable, giving tips, tricks, stories, and philly recs. Wine is offered throughout the class with both antipasto and focaccia (see pictures). Pro tip: save ur focaccia for ur extra sauce (if you can)!

Pasta Making 101 - What was in store for the class

We had heard that Old City Kitchen had opened and naturally, being that it's so close, we kept an eye on when it would open and what they would offer. We couldn't resist the Pasta 101 class, so signed up and have been anticipating the class for several weeks now. What a good time the three hour period was. Chef Ed was super engaging and allowed for plenty of time for us to ask questions. The class started with him explaining what we would be doing and discussing the ingredients while we got to snack on our small bites (all of which was quite tasty; loved the bread, in particular). We then proceeded to make three different types of pasta and three different sauces. As someone who loves and has tried making cacio e pepe pasta before (and failed miserably), I was particularly excited to learn more about this and the proper technique to make it edible. I definitely think my next attempt will be more successful due to what we learned today. The simple Alfredo and quick tomato sauce were both quite tasty, too. We also got to learn more of the technique around making fresh pasta - the right texture and feel really. The hands on nature of this and ability to ask questions really helps. We have done other online cooking classes and read countless books, but never felt like we were getting it right. Today was truly helpful. We loved the mix of hands on/hands off, too. Each group got to play a part in contributing to the meals success. Laura and her assistant kept us all hydrated along the way as well, and couldn't have been any more accommodating as well. We will definitely be back for more of these. It was such a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. They do private parties and events as well. I would highly recommend taking a look at what they offer if you want to do something like this.

It's solely a cooking school - no food service. Otherwise, no need to waste time since you will not be served food.

Chef Justin, Thomas and Alli were incredibly welcoming, patient and great teachers. Our party had a blast cooking together and learning teamwork in a new way! We made the pastas together and then broke off into stations depending on what we wanted to learn. As someone who's never made dessert but had a lot of experience making sauces, it was super fun to learn something new and have guidance right next to me. Three hrs flies by! She's also involved with LocalStove, which provides subscription-based meal prep planning or catering. For CozyMeal, Chef Renee's base of operations is the open kitchen at Good Food Flats. With a gorgeous tablescape and place settings all ready, I knew all I had to do was pop open a bottle of wine and relax. After a brief introduction, Chef had us join in on the prep for the meal. My friend Sembat got to work on chopping up some shallots while I went after the onion. This was all for the base of a nice red sauce, with both fresh vine-ripened and canned tomatoes. Touch of sugar, salt, and herbs and it was good to go. There was also plenty left for us to take home in several jars! Chef Renee then cooked up some arborio rice to make risotto. With this cooled, we helped roll out some rice balls with bread crumbs, which were then deftly fried to give us our first course - arancini with homemade red sauce. Delicious! I was excited for our next dish. Having had Vetri's spinach gnocchi several times, I actually attempted a recreation a few months back. That was definitely a fail, with the gnocchi turning out rock hard. But having Chef Renee provide me with proper instruction, we were able to create a rustic and fluffy iteration, with ricotta and fresh spinach coming through. The browned butter and Parmesan helped to create a salty bite that was simply delicious. Definitely helped myself to seconds of this. For dessert, a quick 15 to 20-minute baked olive oil cake was all we needed. Crispy on the outside and fluffy within, we had a lot of fun plating our own dishes. We even made homemade whipped cream and topped it all with powdered sugar and slivered orange slices. Bellisimo! Be sure to check out the CozyMeal options available in Philadelphia. Apart from the Italian Recipes cooking class with Chef Renee, she also has cooking classes for Dim Sum, Mexican, and French fare as well. CozyMeal is expanding quickly and appears to be a great way for folks to amp up date night or provide a creative way to host friends.
