gaia at Old Crow is truly exceptional. She did an absolutely stellar job on a massive cover-up on my thigh that many artists weren't willing to even attempt. Most people told me the only option was to black it out, but gaia actually took the time to thoughtfully design a real solution that preserved artistry and healed something meaningful for me. She carefully planned every detail and never rushed the process, making sure the design worked perfectly for my body and the existing tattoo underneath. The current result exceeded anything I could have imagined. (This is a long term project so this is the first of 8-10 sessions.) I worked with Eduar over the course of three sessions to design and create a partial sleeve, and integrate it stylistically with a large previous tattoo. I couldn't be happier with the outcome. The studio is bright, clean and well-organized and there are free snacks, drinks and other nice touches that make you feel cared for. I've been tattooed several times now at Old Crow and every experience has been exactly what you'd hope it would be from a high quality shop. The place is immaculate, and you are offered water or tea and snacks while waiting for your tattoo or during a break. I have been tattooed twice by Caitlin, who is an absolutely fantastic artist and also a really lovely person to spend time with. Her detailed designs are stunning and I get lots of compliments on her work. I also had a great experience getting two small tattoos from Jeannie, who did great work on me and two of my friends and knocked out several beautiful tattoos for us quickly over the course of an afternoon. When we lost our dog of 14 years, my twin sister and I knew that we wanted our first tattoos to be of her. A good friend of mine recommended Old Crow tattoo, but more specifically Natasha Tsozik for her fine line work. I scrolled through her Instagram and portfolio online and was amazed at her artwork and loved her pet memorial tattoos, so I decided to reach out. Submitting our request online was super simple and Natasha was extremely responsive after that. She walked my sister and I through the process and drew up the sketches for our tattoos perfectly. This review is regarding my experience with Holi. I contacted him about tattooing my grandmother's Corvette on my arm. Consultation went fine and I felt like he was grasping what I wanted. He asked for a few more photos of the car which I sent him a week after the consultation. I was scheduled for 2:30 on a Monday. I live in northern Napa county so it was a little bit of a hike for me to get down to Oakland but after seeing all of Holi's work I thought it would be worth it. Traffic was awful and I ran 5min late, which I called and informed the shop of. The woman on the phone said Holi was running late as well. I get to the shop and wait for Holi who arrives at 3. I later checked my email and saw he had emailed me at 2 saying he was coming from a doctor's appointment and was running late. Once he got there he showed me the sketch. It looked complete but he said he wanted to tweak something really quick and to give him 20min. No problem. Except that 20min turned into nearly 2.5 hours of waiting. He later told me he didn't check his email and just saw the extra photos I sent him that day. I was pissed at that point but I had already drove nearly 2 hours to get there and put a hefty amount down for the deposit. I didn't want to lose my deposit or piss off a guy about to put permanent ink on my body so I kept my emotions to myself. I figured he's still a great artist and at least I'll be going home with this rad tattoo. We finally start tattooing at 5:15. He mentioned he had a knee injury and has been out the last 2 weeks. He told me he would need to take some extra breaks during our session which I didn't mind at all. We finally stopped at 10 because I still needed to drive home and the tattoo was still not done after nearly 5 hours. Probably needs another hour honestly. He luckily said he would only charge me 3 hours but ended up charging me 3 1/3 hours. And looking at the tattoo I was not thrilled. Lots of wobbly lines and 3 random lines that aren't supposed to be there. I was super upset at this point. This tattoo had a lot of sentimental value for me and I was so excited to get it done. Sadly, Holi ruined the experience for me and every time I look at the tattoo I get mad all over again. I left the shop and still planned on having him finish the tattoo, he still had my deposit, but his communication was so bad. It took him 1.5-2 weeks to get back to me each time I emailed him which then pushed my next appointment slot to 2 months away. I finally told him how unhappy I was about my appointment and that I had to wait so long. I told him he seemed unprepared and lacked communication. If he had told me ahead of time he had been out for 2 weeks and was in such pain from his injury then I would have rescheduled and the whole thing would have gone a lot smoother I'd imagine. But he didn't communicate with me and I was stuck waiting for hours uncertain if this guy was in the right frame of mind to put something permanent on my body. His response came almost 2 weeks later at midnight. He apologized and said he didn't realize I was upset with waiting. Not sure who would be thrilled with waiting 3 hours. He also said he had to nearly redraw the whole tattoo which was news to me. If he had said that I might have rescheduled to give him extra time to prepare. At that point I was done. I just felt like he was unprofessional and careless. I get tattooing isn't a "normal" job but who takes 2 weeks to respond to an email and then does it in the middle of the night?! I kindly told him I would prefer to have it finished by someone else and I would like my deposit returned. 2 stars because he actually returned it. I paid a lot for a high quality tattoo and feel like I got screwed. Now I'm having to pay someone else to finish and fix the lines. This is not my first tattoo by a long shot and I've never been treated so poorly or had to wait so long for an artist to set up and prepare. I would not recommend Holi. read more

I am writing this update in response to Hannah's response, in which she now calls me "entitled", "condescending" and "abusive" and claims that I demanded she do additional drawing for free. Also, like with other former clients, she now accuses me of needing "psychiatric help" and "meds." If you are considering hiring Hannah Wolf, ask yourself whether it is appropriate to personally attack and insult your own clients like this. Ask yourself whether the unhinged demeanor she displays in her ranting responses is something you want to deal with, since it seems to be a trend with her. In fact, you don't even need to read my review. Simply read Hannah's own responses to her many other 1-star reviews and ask if this is the type of person you want to work with. I attached my email that prompted her to fire me as a client and still keep my deposit. I will let readers judge for themselves whether I was being rude and demanding. You can plainly see that Hannah is lying when she claims that I was asking for something for free and demanding that she redraw the tattoo. I clearly said in the email that I was happy to compensate her for additional drawing time, and at no point did I make a single demand. If she is willing to so obviously lie about this, how much can you trust anything she says? Her claims that I treated her rudely, condescendingly or angrily are grossly embellished and dishonest. By the tone of my email, you should be able to see this for yourself. Her claim that I "quickly became angry that it was not being done how I wanted" is pure fiction, which should again be easy to discern from the email. I can only speculate about where her comments are coming from and what specifically I did wrong to cause her to fly off the handle like this. It is true that I, like the many other clients who she has spontaneously fired, did agree to her terms of service. However, nowhere in her terms does she state that she reserves the right to fire her clients on a whim and keep the deposit anyway. There are no businesses in existence in which that is an acceptable way to treat customers. Imagine if you hired a contractor to build you a house and they ended up refusing to do the job, refused to return your deposit, and gave you nothing but a rough blueprint of a house. Then, when you dare to complain, they label you as emotionally unstable and abusive. You would agree it's absurd and unfair, not to mention probably illegal. I encourage Hannah to update her terms to make this policy clearer, although I highly doubt anyone would ever agree to hire her after reading them. read more
