His has got to be one of the most enticing businesses for a home renovator who loves all the classic old stuff. Posts, iron work, tiles, generally speaking its all called architectural fittings and it can be pretty difficult to find. Maybe you have inherited an old house full of these items and you are looking to sell it all off before you demolish and start again - talk to Peter. You only have to glance in the door to be hooked into the wonderfully diverse world of old wood and metal artistically rendered or defined by a craftsman who knew his work would outlive him. I love browsing here and found it very useful when my brother was restoring an old B&B. If Peter can't help you directly he is the sort of chap who knows where to refer you on, so it is certainly worth going in and having a chat with him.

Inside, past the old architectural items displayed on the footpath in the time honoured fashion of storekeepers, is Aladdin's cave, or really Peter's cave, of salvaged architecutral delights. If you're renovating, or building, or just interested in the beautiful, quirky or hard to find remnants of demolished buildings grand and humble, you will enjoy a ramble through the crowded galleries of this shop. Things of iron, brass, wood and glass meet you at every turn - things still glowing with the warmth of the long gone hands that made them. A list of items to be found here would be too long to write, and would still miss thingsout. There's also 'upstairs' and 'out the back', so it's worth asking Peter if you haven't stumbled across what you want during your wanderings. If he hasn't got it, chances are he'll know where you can get it. Long may this place hold out as a haven of curiosity in the CBD!

The one thing that creeped me out about this store was the man who owned it (I'm guessing it was Peter Stapleton). He just sat in his chair and stared at everyone who walked in, with constant eye contact. I always feel weird when I walk into antique stores because I feel like the owners don't trust me, being a young person, and wondering why I'm looking at expensive items I could never afford, so the eye contact from this man didn't help. It also didn't help when he almost yelled at me for having my phone out (I was just replying to a message... not taking photos), but I understand that rules are rules. All in all, I wouldn't go back, though they have some pretty nice things.

Actually considered buying an item, but with that level of creepy surveillance and awful service I just decided I didn't need it that badly. Sad really, they have some beautiful timber items. Wheel and Barrow offer a range of utensils, accessories and equipment for the indoor and outdoor kitchen, plus furniture and also a small range of gourmet style food. The prices are on parr with what other kitchenware stores sell for but there is a larger range than say General Trader. I also like the fact there is a cafe attached to the store where they serve really tasty coffee and serve light meals such as baguettes and focaccia with fillings of your choice. For dessert or a quick fix they have muffins and cakes to wash down with a freshly roasted coffee. Their online store keeps you in touch with what's new and on sale plus it has recipes to tempt you to try and in turn they have the products to make your attempt a success.

Once you find it, It has a white, black & metallic grey store front, very affordable prices, and a marketing motto that states they "provide customers with a shopping experience designed to eliminate confusion without limiting choice." Once you step in, you can find yourself easily narrowing yourself down to choosing something you like and can afford! You can easily be trapped because there are several things that a homebody guy like me could use here! I was like, "Mmmm...This one here is cool.....I could totally use this tonight!" I was able to play house for a little while and quench my thirst for new kitchenware...and only $4 dollars well spent, I found something that I really liked and I could take home! You got me....in your wheelbarrow, alright. Lucky for me, Wheel&Barrow's buying team travels the world to ensure that they consistently have the best professional product ranges in Australia....which means that the best home decor products are right here! Judging by how good the products here look, you can only IMAGINE the how delighted I was to find something I could finally afford! haha! The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars, was because your staff didn't even say hello, approach me, or talk to me. The one that served me just wrapped my glassware without any enthusiasm. The only thing I heard from her was, "Would you like a bag?".....That's it. Brushing that aside, this store makes all the cheap stores look bad, because of the high quality they offer. I must admit it did take me a while to find my fur, mainly because it took me so long to make it up stairs, and that's because I was distracted by the jewelery. So much vintage jewelery...you know, the stuff you used to drool over in your nanna's jewelery box when you were 6, and maybe like me, you haven't stopped drooling. The broaches, the hat pins, the hair pins, the earrings, the bracelets and the rings, it's almost too much to process; like a sugar overload. Another cool thing is that they have a hug book shelf dedicated to matchbox cars and there are so many random/ weird household items to explore! I will say that it gets slightly creepy as you delve further into the store, there's a book shed out the back which resembles a small library, this place has everything.

At first I was a bit baffled because there only seemed to be antiques in the store, that is until I looked out the back and found a huge collection of books. I have to admit that their books actually aren't that great, and some of them are a little over priced (such as the Enid Blyton book that they are selling for $90.00 which I ended up getting elsewhere for $10.00 - needless to say that they still haven't sold it). While the books were pretty ho hum, the collection of antiques was nothing short of awesome - everything from clothes to household furniture to toys. While there are better second-hand bookshops in Adelaide, this is a place to check out if you like antiques.

There is also of course a plethora of teatowels and tablecloths. Since I don't look like her ideal customer, the shop owner paid me no attention. So I didn't buy the hankies.

Perhaps if I was of an "elegant (read: expensive) simplicity" home decorator I would appreciate these products.

There are a lot of things that catch the eye in this store, but unfortunately nothing that warrants the pricetag attached (in my opinion). As a poor, just-graduated uni student there's not too much need for these kinds of things. I mean, what am I going to do with a $40 wooden alphabetical letter?
