I am honestly writing this review so I have Fairplay Furniture Consignment book marked once I am ready to hit buy on that dino. Antiques: There are a few gems here, for sure, but like a lot of antique shops you have to go on a treasure hunt to sort the great buys from the more run-of-the-mill stuff or the reproductions. I'm not personally super into antiques so the inside of the store wasn't really my jam, but I did see some cool doorknobs and cabinet knobs, and even an old child-size toy car that sparked my interest! COVID: The staff all wear masks and both staff and patrons observe social distancing inside the store. When I commented on how safe this makes me feel to the woman ringing me up, she shared that it's in part because they are at least an hour from the nearest hospital, so an outbreak would be a real disaster. I really appreciated that everyone was just respectful about the mask order (it was in place in Summit before the rest of Colorado this summer). Down in Denver people wear their masks like earrings or chin straps, or just around their mouth and it's just...even if you think the global pandemic won't impact you, it's just nice to see people who don't want it to impact others. Bonus: It's located right next to a gas station and, in the summer months, a Palisades peaches and local honey stand.

South Park Pottery is so much more than pottery. Located at the north end of Front Street near the…read moreold main street, it has a variety of items including pottery, jewelry, crystals, bottled scents, fun collectables, and lots of South Park memorabilia from the animated TV program. We asked the clerk why the South Park characters are so prominent throughout the town of Fairplay. She said the town was originally called South Park in the late 1800s. It became a trading post and the name was changed to let traders know the town "played fair" when making trade deals. She said the South Park name continues because one of the originators of the South Park TV show grew up in the town and many of the characters from the show were people he knew when growing up. The owner of the pottery story has a son who is a big South Park fan. His vast collection of memorabilia from the show is available for viewing in the store's South Park museum. For a few dollars visitors to the Pottery store can enjoy looking through his incredible collection.

The person working the cash register looked it up and said it would be $51. 3 minutes later, I found the EXACT same shawl in a small which had a price tag of 41.50 (the first one was a medium). We asked him to honor the price, and he said "nope, mediums probably cost more because, you know extra fabric." Okay, first of all, that's not how clothes work. But to humor him my friend tried on the small and it fit, and we asked to get that one. "Nope (again) all sales are final (he and not told us that). You can't exchange it, for the exact same item for the correct price. You CAN go buy something else for the price difference (not easy to do), so she bought a bracelet and paid more. Such a contrast to the experience I'm accustomed to shopping on Frisco Main Street. NOT a good reflection on our town at all. I will never bring a guest there again. Plenty of other local shops who treat locals and visitors well.

I've stopped in a…read morecouple of times on Colorado road trips and there are some real treasures that make the store a great place to browse. On my most recent visit, I bought a painting and needed it shipped to Seattle. Sharon took down my info and said she'd make the arrangements with a local shipping company. When she investigated, she felt the price was too high so she created your own packaging and took my purchase to a spot in Denver (the next time she headed there), arranging for it to be shipped at one-third the original quote. So above and beyond! What's more, when I called to make the final payment arrangements, I immediately recognized Sharon's friendly voice from when I was in the store. It's because of Sharon that my partner commented, then and now, "I love Coloradans!" Yes, she's excellent PR for the entire state. Worth a visit. It's going to be a regular stop for me whenever I'm passing through.

The Bee's Knees could benefit with some more decor. The walls are incredibly sparse and so, little for your eyes to light upon. We only enjoyed the wine but might return to pair that with their charcuterie boards.
