Beyond the reissues and Classic Rock anthem albums found at great prices at the Old School records. You will find a large variety of Chicago and New York Dance classics. From obscure italo disco, to Hard stomping Funk boogie cuts. Its all right under your nose, literally! Below each wooden box in the center of the store are the sometimes missed 12 inch singles section. Wear old pants and a belt to avoid doing the plumber show when you get on your knees and start pulling all of the gems out. I have found some of the best records I have for house parties in this section of the Old School and there is so much there that I though i should share this small tidbit with you. Holy Crap - taken out of the film "High Fidelity". Obscure records, excellent quality/condition, and no smarmy, "Too Cool" bullshit from the employees. The prices are excellent on new and used music and they are very hip to turning you onto new artists. Really great collection of LPs and CDs and cassette tapes. read more

The Old School Record store was established in 1992, and has been serving the music needs of many since that great year. The carry numerous music items in all formats, both used and new. They sell Cds, Lps, 12"s, 45s, 78s, DVDs, VHS Tapes, and cassettes. Sorry no Eight Tracks....Dam. They specialize in cut-rate used music items. They buy, trade and sell music items and some movie products that are hard to find. Recently I purchased some vintage U2, New Order and Ministry at the store for a great price. All three Cds, were in good condition without flaws. The operation is ran by just good people who have great knowledge of music. I highly recommend you visit and patronize this establishment. This is another neat find in Forest Park. A rather old-line record store with a pretty big selection of albums. A neat selection of DVD'S.CD's as well. You can find some gems, Even in the low-budget bin. Also a small section of 78's as well. read more

Probably the best old school record store left in the Chicagoland area. Jodi and Peter always have excellent recommendations for me now that they know what I like after a few visits. You get personal service from real music aficionados. No 'high fidelity' attitude. Just real people who love music as much as you do. Plenty of new releases on CD along with an awesome selection of used vinyl, cassettes, vhs and dvds too. If you want it and they don't have it, just ask and they will get it for you. You can't go wrong visiting this store, but you might leave with a little less $$ in your wallet 'cause there's so much cool stuff to be had! read more

Went in there twice trying to sell 10 cds, and got very bad customer service. The men that were working there the first time we ent in very rudely told me that they stop selling one hour before closing. So instead of telling me when I could come back they just stared at us as we turned around and walked out. We returned the next day and one man was working behind the counter looking at someones large record collection. We approached him telling him we were interested in selling some CDs. He then rudely told us that he was looking at these records and there would be a half an hour wait. We proceeded to look around the store, as we were going to wait until he was done. After about 5 minutes he told us it would be more like an hour wait and that he buys at a first come first serve basis. He said there are other stores in Oak Park that buy, and that was it. I think both interactions could have been handled alot more professionally. We got the impression that he did not even want our business and that we were an inconvenience to him. So I do not recommend anyone goes here to sell. The sign in the door says we buy and sell, well he sure didnt act like he wanted to buy!! I will be finding somewhere else to go that is actually interested in making some money!!!! read more
