The Old Strathcona Antique Mall is the kind of place you can get lost for hours in; I manage to do so quite frequently. Made up of rows of cubicle-like booths lovingly tended by different antique dealers (or, in some cases, neglected; see New Arrivals signs dated '05!), the Antique Mall is the perfect place to find gifts for absolutely anyone: crazy apartment knick-knacks, old postcards to mail to friends, vintage Pyrex and Fire King kitchenware, record albums, lace gloves, magazine clippings of the Rolling Stones, Star Wars board games and antique furniture from any era. Or, better yet, shop for yourself. It pays to take your time and really browse to your limit; often you can find find an item repeated in another booth at a lower price, and you're guaranteed to overlook things that are really amazing simply because of the mass amount of cool collectibles assaulting your senses. I just checked out the "new" Old Strathcona Antique Mall and I must say they're really pushing it calling it an Antique Mall.........there are hardly any antiques in the whole building. Sure, there's some antique furniture, some old crocks.........but it's really more of a giant gift shop....lots of glass, china and toys, toys, toys!! Some with bar codes!!! If you want real antiques and "vintage" collectibles, I'd suggest you check out Mildred's Antiques for furniture, Black Swan for vintage jewellry and Rocky Mountain Antique Mall for a really great selection of true antiques and vintage collectibles. What a perfect way to spend the afternoon. The antique mall is lined with cubes and cubes of intersecting aisles of everything antique. Everything seems to be arranged by theme, you have dainty china, country kitsch, license plates, sports memorabilia, toys (oh so many toys), furniture, and everything and I mean EVERYTHING in between. By far the best selection of antique items. My only complaint (and it's minor) is the staff. I don't know if the female staff thought I was trying to steal the wooden rooster and fuzzy chimp I was holding ... or what. She kept following me and asking me if I wanted her to take my stuff to the front. It got so annoying I just handed the stuff to her so she would leave me alone. read more

Always a fun place to browse and good for a first date place for sure. I've been here countless times and if I didn't walk out with something it's because I wanted something out of my price range, like that $800 antique furniture item I'd be afraid to sit on but would look cool in my home. If you like vinyl records, old video games, and old books come here for sure. Lots of selection. Staff is always pleasant and one can also chill out in the mini restaurant they got going too. Do you remember when you were a kid and your parents would take you to certain stores and you always found them fascinating and would bug them to return? Then as you got older that sense of magic disappeared into the everyday drone of commercialism and capitalism. I've visited a few cities in Canada and checked out vintage stores and antique rows both good, bad and overpriced and can honestly say I've never seen anything like OSAM. They have items from varying eras from the 1890's on up to the 1980's. You could spend weeks attempting to find ever vintage trinket that they have and still not see everything they offer. I try not to go there too often because I will ALWAYS spend money there on something. I recently found a Muskrat pelt for sale there and no matter how much I resisted, I wound up buying it because I've never known anyone who's owned one. It has no use but no guys place would be complete without some part of a dead animal in it that you can't eat. And yes, if you see something you like, you'd better buy it since smaller items have a tendency to sell quite quickly. Furniture may hang around longer but cheaper pieces move faster. No matter what my mood is going in, I always feel happy coming out. F#*& Dizneeland, MGM studios, six flags, Neverland Ranch, Playland, the PNE or K Days, OSAM really is the most magical place on Earth, or at least pretty damned close. read more

I love going here but I get VERY frustrated when I see a whole set of dishes and the pieces are priced separately. I feel this discourages people from keeping all the pieces together. Weird thing is though, they have sets that are all sold together, it's just the "good" ones aren't. read more

I have been shopping at the Strathcona Antique mall for a number of years. I collect amongst other things antique gold lockets, Botanic Garden china, ivory art work and antique furniture. Well it was really cold out today so I wanted to go walk around so antique mall is right around tge corner. Great place. Like a garage sale or fleamarket but higher end like antiques. Love this place! I've recently become a fan of antique-ing, and my partner and I have come to visit this antique mall several times in the last few months. It is easy to spend hours in here without even realizing it. Every aisle and every nook has a different and completely unrelated array of treasures. Everything is in good condition and kept very clean, and arranged nicely. There is also a mix of old and new, with refurbished creations and those created to look antique available as well. My only complaint is the pricing, as it is all quite high. However, I also understand this is quite reasonable in keeping such a special place alive. I will be a return shopper forever! read more

This place is the best! I'm always going in looking for new vinyl or anything that catches my eye and I'm usually never disappointed. The guy upstairs is always there to open the glass case and let you see the "good stuff" :) I've found a few gems in there. the people behind the counter are always really nice as well. I took a walk down to this Antique Mall today after hearing that they were having a huge sale, and boy HUGE doesn't cut it. Almost everything was at least 10% off, most were 20 - 35%, and some even 50% off. I picked up an awesome lamp that normally would have been $230, but I got it at 25% off. I also picked up some old canning jars at 10-15% off. All in all, it was a great day spent and I will definitely try to make it down again during the sale - it goes until next Sunday, which coincidentally is also their outdoor "boot" sale (they don't sell boots, rather they sell out of the "boot" of their vehicle). I have trouble rating this place since there are two aspects. Visiting to look and visiting to buy, because most things are overpriced. So, it can be fun but a little frustrating for an antiquer to visit. There are interesting things to look at though. This is the kind of place to go for a date, and you should sample the little ice cream place. The only place to go for vintage or retro video games like Nintendo (NES), Super Nintendo (SNES), and Nintendo 64 (N64). As an avid collector I used to frequently visit places like Game Stop, NexWave, and even Super Flea to pick old video games. I don't bother going those places anymore unless I absolutely can't find what I'm looking for at the various vendor displays upstairs at the Antique Mall. The prices cannot be beat! There used to be only 4 display cabinets, but another recently opened on the opposite side. The newest one has the best prices and selection for sure, not to mention the most visually appealing set up (stuff isn't just tossed in, it is carefully displayed and therefore I'd assume well taken care of). Always a nice stock of NES, SNES, and N64 systems, accessories, and games. Definitely a place to go get some nostalgia! read more

If you are serious about finding a treasure to buy, do yourself a favour and head instead to the Rocky Mountain Antique Mall just south of here, where the prices are way more reasonable! While the place is huge and there seem to be many vendors, my boyfriend and I found the prices here to be very high - and many times not justified. We decided to leave after 10 minutes because of this observation. read more

I love coming here. I first came in a search for an antique decanter. Though it can be very overwhelming because there is so much crammed into every space. It's a lot of fun to see things from your childhood you longed forgot about and many antiques to take you back in time. I have had good luck coming here to find vintage video games. Lots of great finds depending on who is renting a space at the time. I do agree with most people with the prices being a little high. depends what you're looking for but the prices are set by those who are renting the space and not the store itself so it's hardly their fault. The space can feel crowded and over whelming with so much stuff but its still easy to get around and is a very large space. there is a classic diner in the corner where you can get home made sandwiches and drinks. The staff are always helpful and I've never had a hard time finding someone to open a case that's locked. The parking can get a little crazy on the weekends. specially during the summer when the cycle shop takes it over with their outdoor display. This is a great place to come and look for inspiration or that hard to find treasure you've been searching for. It will be difficult to walk out with just one thing though! read more

Best free admission museum in town. Depending on how fast a browser you are you can easily spend two or more hours walking through the entirety of this place. Even if you have zero intention of buying it's still a fantastic way of burning off a morning or afternoon. I couldn't properly describe the vast array of treasures from the past in a simple review, you just have to see it for yourself. Prices vary quite a bit as the facility is composed of booths similiar to a flea market. Some items are behind glass and require staff to get a key. Speaking of staff, I have found them to be incredibly polite and friendly. The last time I visited I had a bookbag, which is something they prefer you check at the front (dont worry, you get a colored clip to identify your bag, and they keep it behind the front counter!), and the woman that came to talk to me about it apologized profusely though I was in no way offended when she asked if I could check my bag. She even did me the favour of running my backpack to the front and coming back to give me the colored clip. If you want to shop for old stuff or just have a trip down nostalgia lane, give this place a try. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go to in Edmonton. It's like walking through a fun museum where you can actually buy the pieces. No matter where you turn you'll see something cool from your childhood or something that you would've seen at your grandparents house. As a collector of old board games I can always find something new and interesting here. This is a great spot to find something for someone who's hard to buy for. read more

****This is not a review, This is an Info update from the Owners**** Hi there, I am an Owner of the Old Strathcona Antique Mall. Thanks for the kind words regarding our mall. I just wanted to striaghten out a couple of details. The Antique Mall has been sold and will be moving to a new location. After 8 years in business we felt it was time to move on to other opportunities. We have dearly loved running the Mall and while it's not perfect, it's been a wonderful haunt for both us and our many regular and not so regular customers. I just thought I would mention that the current phone number will remain the same and when the mall is located in it's new location it should be business as usual. The new owners are commited to a south central location in edmonton south of the river, but it may be further south than it's current location. We wish the new owners all the best, and since we know what they are planning I can certainly say that are BIG thinkers. It should be better than ever! Please feel free to contact the Mall as we near December 31st for an update regarding a new location. Also note that there will be some great price reductions and excellent deals as the vendors are trying to thin out their product for the inevitable move. Again thanks to all of our customers for enjoying our store all of these years. You will all be missed more than you know. My fiancé and I purchased a beautiful engagement here back in May, the lady who helped us was incredible. If the story ended here I would be rating this place 5 stars.. Unfortunately when we were in Mexico shortly after he proposed I nearly drowned while snorkelling and lost the ring. We came in today to look at replacement options and a different lady helped us, she seemed nice enough.. after I gave a short version of our story she said "maybe this is the universe telling you that you shouldn't get married." I was lost for words, at first I laughed uncomfortably and soon was completely turned off and left the store in awe of how insensitive she had been. I wasn't going to bother leaving a review because I had no idea what to even say, but honestly I will never be going back. I wasn't looking for a deal or trying to play her emotions for a discount, just making conversation about why we were ring shopping. I will be happy to tell anyone who will listen about this unpleasant experience, perhaps she should stick to a job that requires less interaction with customers, or at the very least refrain from giving relationship advice to complete strangers. She has lost you a sale and any future business from my friends and family. read more
