Tucked away on Bath Street just round the corner from the hustle and bustle of Buchanan Street sits this newly opened family run business. At fist sight, it didn't look all that inviting, perhaps a bit barren and empty even, with just the odd smattering of funky artwork on the wall and some rather plain and sad looking furniture. We arrived at 7pm and it was rather quiet with the stereo playing some Greek pop music. Fortunately after a half hour of so, the atmosphere picked up as the restaurant got busier. The menu looked good, with a range of hearty looking Greek grub, but I didn't really know what I wanted, it just had to contained grilled meat. So, I just asked for the traditional Greek Meze, which is a set meal and very popular in Greece. Surprisingly they didn't offer it, but the owner said it wouldn't be a problem to whip up his favourite dishes and do us a Meze style banquet for us. We polity accepted and waited for the food to arrive. We were treated to some really fantastic dishes. To kick things off; Saganaki Prawns, made with feta cheese and a deliciously rich and tasty tomato sauce. I think we polished off a couple of baskets of bread mopping up the splendid sauce. Furthermore, a wonderfully seasoned and fresh Greek salad and some grilled cheese with tomato and peppers. The main dished comprised of Gyros, which is a pork style kebab, delicious, and skewered, charcoal grilled lamb and chicken with the house's fresh, hand-cooked chips, yum! It fair to say, after all that meat, I spiralled into a deep meat-coma and was unresponsive to any form of chat or questions, hence agreeing to a desert when asked by the waitress. I went for the wonderful and rich Greek yoghurt with honey and walnuts to really finish me off. Fortunately our lovely meal meal wasn't ruined by Greek dancing nor the sound of smashing plates. This was an initial concern of mine as the restaurant is certainly big to accommodate this. Credit should also go to the father / daughter combo who work tirelessly in the kitchen and in attending to the customers needs quickly and with a smile. Oh, one more thing.........if your ever in town and fancy a tasty snack they do a wrapped Gyros to go for just £3.95, total bargain!

I came in for a late lunch--there were only a handful of people in the restaurant but everyone seemed happy enough with the food and immersed in either work they were doing or in the conversations they were having. It is a pleasant enough space (the 1st floor) and definitely has enough room for groups, which is a plus. However, the food was less than satisfactory. I ordered a pork souvalki, which unfortunately they were out of and had to settle for what I thought the next best option-a simple gyro pita. While the presentation was absolutely fine, the meat was just lathered in grease. It looked as though the fat had never been properly wiped off of the meat and that addition oil or maybe even butter had then been placed on top of the fat. There was also too much salt content--which suggests to me that the meat isn't at the quality it should be. Gyro is street food in Greece. But that doesn't make it greasy--it should not be greasy at all in fact. In Greece, the gyro meat stands alone, in that it is not covered in fat, oil, or salt. It is covered with an array of vegetables (which vary depending on the chef and vendor) but usually consists of fresh tomatoes, onions, sometimes fresh and sliced cucumbers, sometimes lettuce, always with potatoes (fries that are lightly fried), and always with a healthy amount Tzatziki. It is absolutely delicious and frankly, should be filling but should not make you feel sick (unless you over eat!) Perhaps Yiamas other food options are better. But on principal, I am not a fan of an establishment that has loads of grease on any of their food items--not a good precedent. On another unfortunate note, I do need to mention that the bathroom did not seem to be properly cleaned as it had a terrible odor. This definitely could have been just an unfortunate and one-time problem but it was an issue on my visit. On a better note however, the staff was nice and helpful--there was very little tzatziki on the gyro and they immediately gave me more when I mentioned it to them. As other reviewers mention as well, the food is reasonably priced. So in the event that the other foods on the menu are have less salt and grease, perhaps it will amount to a better experience.

Having had brunch here previously, heading here for lunch was something I was excited about. It was very busy this time round so service was understandably a little slower. We did have a short wait for a table but it really wasn't long till we were seated considering it was peak lunching hour. Oh my word. Sandwich heaven. I had the bacon and mozzarella baguette with hot salsa and guacamole and it was absolutely delicious. Lots of cheese, lots of bacon, lots of yum. The Hideaway is just the perfect spot for tea and cake, I definitely want to sample their baked goods soon. Very, very soon!
