I'm updating my review of Donnelly Stucco to include the recently uncovered 9 Minnesota building code violations. I've hired a new reputable contractor to examine everything Donnelly has touched. On day 4 and 5 of their examination of Donnelly's incompetence and deceit they found these 9 Minnesota building code violations in a 12' x 8' area (I'm betting a Guinness Book of World Records) : 1. King stud not anchored to header 2. Rotting rim board not replaced 3. Split the header - A BIG NO, NO - caused my upstairs floor to sage 4. Rotting studs not replaced 5. Used both Kraft faced insulation and poly sheathing on inside as a vapor barrier, creating moisture to not dissipate, causing mold 6. Rotting sill plate not replaced 7. Double top plate has stacked seams - code says 2 feet separation of seams 8. Insulation cut too short and missing insulation - creating frost pockets 9. Notched studs which corrupt the integrity of the studs - the correct procedure is to drill holes in the studs to run the electrical wires 10. Left a rotting window frame in place. This is directly above the 12' X 8' area with 9 MN building code violations. This whole area was supposedly remediated by Donnelly. My current construction company said they couldn't have missed it. I've had six workers here for 4 days fixing this area. In addition to remediating all the building code violations, they are fixing the sagging bedroom floor. You can imagine with all these violations in one area, a complete reframe had to be done. Donnelly Stucco is also guilty of an ethics violation. Donnelly Stucco lied to the Eden Prairie Inspectors. Donnelly told the inspectors they only replaced the sheathing in this area. So, there was no need to open the sheathing they had used an overabundance of nails to seal and look inside. This company's level of deceit and deception knows no bounds. Their electrician even cancelled his permit and got his $75 permit money back from the state. I found this out by calling the Department of Labor and Industry and asking why an electrical inspector had never shown up to inspect his work. The most troubling part of all this, is the damage Donnelly has done to my family's health and happiness. My two daughters were both residing at home before Donnelly's deceitful work here. My older daughter suffers from Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) due to toxic mold exposure. We found out about our mold problem because of her health and eventual discovery there was mold behind our stucco walls. In the process of removing the stucco from the back of my house, Donnelly ripped the stove vent cover from the house and tossed it aside. I immediately realized it was off when I could feel a cold freeze coming from my stove.  I had just paid $10,000 plus dollars having my inside house remediated for mold, so having a strong air flow from the outside near an area of rotting wood was the LAST THING I NEEDED!!! I immediately texted Bob (the "un" project manager) and told him to have his workers reattach the cover ASAP.  In the meantime, I stuffed towels in the vent.  A WEEK LATER I REALIZED THE VENT WAS STILL NOT ATTACHED!!! I had to rely on Terry (Eden Prairie home inspector) to get the Donnelly workers to put it back on. Bob never reached out to his workers. Because of Donnelly's deceit, greed, incompetence... my daughters were forced to move into an apartment nearby. I should not be living here either but I am trying desperately to lessen the toxic mold level here, so my daughters can safely come home. These weasels put a lien on my home because I refused to pay the final invoice until this area of 9 building code violations was opened and inspected. While the supposed inspector, Kevin was out with COVID, Thomas Bennett of Donnelly Stucco talked Kevin Schmieg, head building official for Eden Prairie Inspections Department into closing the permit. Review coming of the Eden Prairie Inspection Department. This department is a money maker for the city but homeowners are on their own concerning the integrity of repairs by their contractor. I filed a complaint with the Department of Labor and Industry. Their response was it's up to the Eden Prairie Inspectors to catch the Minnesota building code violations not them. The current address for this company listed on Yelp is incorrect. The correct address is 2832 Mounds View Blvd, Mounds View, MN 55112. I have requested Yelp to update with the correct address. Beware, this company also does business as Caliber Companies at the same address.

That said I still went ahead with the contract. The fascia was done in a timely manner, and looks nice. No complaints, other than the price hike. The windows were a different story. They came and measured and it took them 8 weeks to finally schedule my appointment. I guess they don't really care about the "smaller" jobs. When they came, they informed me that they had mis measured the larger window and couldn't install it. They re-measured it and assured me they would put a "rush" on it. They installed the other window but didn't have time to wrap it. Fast forward another 6 weeks and I get a call telling me they need to measure the window again. Hello? Didn't you do that 6 weeks ago? Regardless it still wasn't ordered! They had to come and measure again (3rd time now). I'm not a contractor, but you think that if you are you would know how to do that right the first time. Fast forward another 2 months to finally get them to install it. Total time to get two windows installed was 6 months. Unacceptable. Paid them half up front, half upon finished. Paid in cash. Get final paperwork and find they put a lien on all projects. Beware of this company.

One local news celebrity who lives nearby described it as the "outlier" on the block. Gee thanks... It was in bad need of new siding and windows throughout. We knew about Hoffman Weber (HW) and Jason Iwig from previous dealings at our old house in Bloomington. (Those dealings resulted in a separate five-star review on Angie's List). So, when HW's estimate for windows and siding came back in the same ballpark as a couple of other very reputable companies, we immediately retained HW as our contractor. Jason met with us immediately after we committed to the project. He's extremely knowledgeable when it comes not only to the various siding products available but especially with respect to customizing design and aesthetic, with great attention to details like jut-outs, standard siding for lower and shake siding for upper, and decorative corbels etc. He was also able to provide several financing options from cash to a ten-year loan with relatively good rates. He was able to approve us on the spot. Jason then handed the project management over to Pete (for windows) and Tim (for siding), who served as the foremen of their respective projects by making regular visits and ensuring their crews had more than enough material on site to get the job done. Like Jason, Pete and Tim are extremely knowledgeable, thoughtful, and professional, and always available to answer questions or address concerns, always in a satisfactory (reasonable) manner. Our installers were meticulous with attention to detail, right down to the replacement of cable tv cords along the house. Everything had to be perfect with the siding and windows. Yes, this meant a somewhat slower completion time, but I'll take slightly slow and meticulous over fast and sloppy any day. Our satisfaction always seemed of primary concern for them. Our 1921 house at 1116 Saint Clair Ave was an "outlier" in the neighborhood when we moved in, for all the wrong reasons. Now it's an outlier for all the right reasons. With Jason's help and artistic flair, we decided to use Hardie siding in the color Countrylane Red, with Arctic White trim. But we chose Birch Bark for the shake siding up on top, with a jut-out supported by corbels. We're happy. Our new neighbors are ecstatic. And passersby on Saint Clair stop to tell us how impressed they are. We really couldn't be happier with the job Hoffman Weber did for us, and we very sincerely hope those who read this review consider them for their project. Big thanks to Jason, Pete, Tim, and Boris, and all the administrative staff at the office who stayed in close touch throughout the entire process, with very accurate timelines etc.

My windows leaked after the first cold winter and now I'm in the midst of devastating insurance claim. When I complained they told me that they had a whole legal team on standby and that I was welcome to try my luck. Almost $120k and they treated me like garbage. They also had PMs not show up for inspections so I had to meet with the inspectors myself. Spend your money elsewhere. I still have windows that don't work and they won't return my calls. Again, spend your money elsewhere!

First, the good (actually, the great.)...these guys hire the best laborers I've ever dealt with. Hard working professionals who are perfectionists and don't cut corners. SMC also does a great job of following up on the work that is done and fixing the little things a normal home owner maybe wouldn't notice. Second, dealing with SMC's employees face to face is fantastic. Every employee I met with was friendly and knowledgeable. Plus they were great with my two young kids! The problem was communicating with them when they are not on site. So many of my texts and voicemails went unanswered for days. It got very frustrating. My contractor also did a poor job of communicating to my wife and I why delays were happening. All of this poor communication was especially disappointing because we expressed to our contractor prior to even selecting SMC that communication was key to our decision making. We liked our contractor and liked that they had an app that keeps you updated on statuses, but the app turned out to be not helpful at all and, as I mentioned, the contractor failed in some of his roles. Overall, we come away from this 5-6 month residential project happy with the outcome but frustrated a few too many times throughout the process.

So when we needed new roofing, siding, gutters, gutter covers, facia and soffits I obtained several quotes. Erik didn't hesitate to come out to Farmington and quote the project. We had some "slick" salespeople and we had a guy that wouldn't give me a quote (he really didn't like women was my opinion) and would only deal with the insurance company. Erik was professional, honest and not "slick." The price was fair. My test is always the "warm and fuzzies." After a few meetings with Erik, he had my business. Then came the problems. Every color combo for all of the above items had items out of stock, discontinued or something. Erik made a lot of phone calls and several vendor trips. I have no idea how many combos we went through - probably 15 or so. Finally we found a combo that could be put together. YEAH!!!! Erik was patient through all of the "I hate neutrals" moments and several trips of holding colors against the house in different light. Roof install went well and then we had to wait 2 weeks for the siding. The siding installation was completed and they came back and fixed a couple of small items and we were done before Thanksgiving. Erik was around almost daily and even picked up extra FOD on his own. They installed our new lights and Ring cams too. Erik was easily reachable and kept on top of the project and kept me up to date.
