This is such a cute store to visit when you are looking for either yourself or to give as gifts. I ventured down to St Charles Main Street for last some minute stocking stuffer shopping. I made a commitment last year to do my gifting from local places and my stockings still had plenty of room to fill. I really hadn't planned to buy spices...but on the day I went most stores didn't open until noon which I didn't realize and this store was open. So I ventured in. It is tiny and at first it was a bit overwhelming trying to see what all was in there... but as people started leaving I ended up with the store to myself. They have SO MUCH STUFF here! Spices, gifts, soup mixes, jams, hot sauces, premade trinkets, tea items, etc. I enjoyed that they had quite a few neat gift items already packaged including a "items from MO" box. I ended up hitting the spices and purchased multiple for stocking stuffers and to use for myself. We've already used the taco seasoning and the ranch mix I purchased and we loved them both. Great flavor! The spices are packaged in multiple size offerings and were reasonably priced. I also gifted a St Joe's multipurpose style seasoning and the receiver used it on veggies and chicken and said they really liked it. Love this place, prices are reasonable, it gives me an excuse to head to old town and I always find something in addition to my typical list. My spice cabinet is always top notch due to this little shop. The only warning....it's a bit cramped so if you head there are heavy weekends around holidays it can be pretty claustrophobic and painful when you have a list and everyone else is lallygagging in the store. read more

This was a fun Little pitstop along the main street in downtown St. Charles. If you are looking for food treasures or just love exploring anything food related, I think this spot will bring you joy. We found everything from truffle sea salt and scone baking kits to Boba tea kits and plenty of tea options. They also have a wide variety of sauces, soup mix kits, Sweet treats and sauces. The owner was friendly and based on the space you could tell he really enjoys his job. If you're looking for a gift, I imagine you could find some thing in the walls of this shop. I was impressed by some of the seesaw offerings as well as the concentrated chai tea that was available. This is my absolutely favorite spice shop (better than Penzey's). The staff are always helpful and friendly. I've gotten soooo many spices here and even some of the tea. High quality spices, herbs and tea. They also carry some niche hot sauces and soup mixes. This last stop I stocked up on various paprikas, chopped onions and shallots. I will say, when it's busy if you have a stroller it is very difficult to move around since it is so tight in the store. This last time I ran in while my husband waited outside since it was so busy. This is a SMALL storefront packed with a LARGE assortment of spices, rubs, sauces, jellies, dips, teas, and many other great food items. The reason I began going to the spice shop is because they were the closest store around that sells one of my favorite BBQ rubs. My wife came with me and she immediately fell in love with the store. The prices for spices are very reasonable compared to your typical grocery store pricing. The difference is the spices from the spice shop seem to be fresher, more fragrance, and potent. The employees are really helpful with questions and when you need help decided exactly what you need. There are sample stations throughout the store to try different items such as apple butter, pretzel dip, and something called goose poop. It's actually pretty good once you get past the name and color of the dip. Check them out the next time you visit St. Charles Main Street. read more

This place is AMAZING! I buy every single spice in my house here. I go through cinnamon and chili powder in bulk at my house and at less that $2 for all I need, I can't resist the bargain. I bought 4 huge containers or spices last week for under $10 that would have cost me nearly double that at any grocer in town and I would have half the spice. If you ever need an extract or a specialty spice, they have them as well. And don't forget to try their spice blends, I love the greek rub, the Jamaican jerk spice and the Chinese 5-spice powders but I have many more to try. On top of their amazing spices they have teas and tea sets and dips and general Missouri food products. For my wedding, I decided that the jelly jars here would be perfect for a favor. They often offer them at 5/$1 so I was excited to see if I could get them at that price...but they were out of stock. No worries, they ordered them in bulk for me AND they gave me a discount on them too. The service was phenomenal and a reminder as to why you should always support your local businesses first. read more

When Teavana left St Louis I was happy to find some good teas here. It's difficult getting the rock sugar here. The older gentleman at the front told us they don't have a scheduled restock time for it and that I should call to ask if it's available and have it ordered (takes 2 weeks just fyi.) I went in to grab some chai and the young lady up front was so rude when I asked her about the rock sugar I didn't even bother with the tea. I know they have the sugar but she acted like they've never had it before and it was such a pain to ask someone in the back about it. I'll order my rock sugar and tea from somewhere else. What a great collection of spices and butters, and a gluttony of other items as well?! One of my favorite finds here was the Goose Poop Relish which has to be one of my favorite new finds in St. Louis. I first discovered it a few weeks ago in Soulard at the Farmer's Market. Having a shop nearby that carries this product just makes my day! My in-laws were on the hunt for some apple butter, and were able to find several options here, as well as a samples display for one of the options. The apple butter was not the only thing on display for a taste, as I also saw the Goose Poop (both spicy and regular), a snickerdoodle cookie dip, and a salsa all open for a taste! If you do any cooking or baking at all, Olde Town Spice Shoppe is a must do stop in your trip to Old Town. read more

AWESOME spice shop! I stopped by when it was INSANE and you could barely walk around because it was so busy so I know that I need to go back because I didn't get to see everything. I got some lemon pepper and garlic salt for myself. The lemon pepper is amazing! I've been using it on veggies and it's a perfect seasoning. I'm not usually a pepper lover, but this stuff is so good. And I don't cook with garlic a lot, but I like using garlic salt instead of regular when cooking for a little extra flavor. I also got some small stocking stuffers, like some dip mix. I like how they have two sizes of containers for the spices. I also like how they come in plastic containers, because I reuse my own glass spice containers. I couldn't get to the tea because the line was blocking it, but I will definitely be back to check it out. I also covet the teapots! Great spot for a foodie, cook or tea lover! Dude. You can get rose hip teabags here for SIX CENTS EACH. Yes, you heard me right. SIX FREAKIN' CENTS! Where can you buy anything these days for six cents? Jeebus. I got some of those and some vanilla spice tea. And a mini fudge thing. For like $5 or so. Also their teapots are as cheap as $20 or $30....wayyyyy better than teavana and they have some really cute floral options. I AM SO GOING BACK for more cheap amazing tea and teapots and probably spices eventually. They sell the dips and soup kits that they have at the Kirkwood farmer's market. :D Also beware...if you have a sensitive sniffer, it can be pretty...well...spicy in here. So much variety in this store. Many Missouri-produced items. An entire wall near the checkout area full of bulk tea in many flavors. Spices, seasonings and rubs abound and many spice mixes. Extracts, condiments, salsa, marinades, jams and jellies, glazes, at least five kinds of Amish popcorn. Soup mixes, dip mixes, sauces, dressings. I got a couple dip mixes ($6) and four beautiful Christmas spreaders ($12) for a stocking stuffer. The spreaders were also available with a block, which was soooo cute! The checkout line snaked throughout the entire store. I just wish they wouldn't call themselves a shoppe. The spelling confuses children! read more

I can't even believe how much spice they pack into this tiny store. It truly is a treat for the eyes to see everything imaginable from loose teas, coffee and spices to apple butters, ethnic ingredients, homemade pastas and much more! I was particularly happy with the extremely reasonable tea prices (about $1.55 for one ounce, which makes 8-10 cups of tea). Plus the teas are incredibly aromatic and tasty when brewed. The woman at the store had a ton of patience and let me smell over ten teas, before I was ready to settle on my picks. Very good customer service :) There's a reason this place had a line out the door! Check it out if you ever visit St. Charles! And, as their sign says " If we have it, it's in stock. I especially like that their prices are so reasonable that I can afford to buy many different types and while allowing me the ability to try new ones too, because of their affordability. The store also sells non-spice items like salsas, jams, and popcorn. I have been going to this store since I was a little girl. I even made mail-orders from here when I lived out-of-town before moving back. Please, at least visit this store once for its incredibly good smell, that is waiting to welcome you home. I love this place!!! No matter what unusual spice I am looking for, they have always had it. I find new ideas here all the time - spice blends I never would have tried on my own. There is a garlic blend that I kind of pour into my vegetables - it really wakes up the flavor and I'll even have a second helping sometimes! I've just discovered a rosemary vegetable blend that is fantastic as well. It's so much fun to browse and find new things, spices, blends, teas...I have enjoyed every visit! read more
