My wife swears by this place. Based on the reviews, so does everyone else. We have to stop every single time we drive by, coming and going. I just don't think it's that good, any of it really... I don't even go inside any more when we stop. There is nothing that I want enough to burn the calories on. My wife won't ever admit it, but we throw away most of what we buy every single time. No one eats it. It just sits there and molds. I take that back, the rolls (maybe butter horns, am I making that up?) are pretty good. I'll tear them suckers up right out of the toaster oven. The cinnamon rolls, baked goods, and loaf breads are all dry and taste to be made with dirt cheap ingredients to me. Chex mix stuff is even bland. How is that!?!?!? I've never had a sandwich so maybe I am missing out. I'm not a big sandwich guy though. It's just not my thing. Last time we came through, she got Lasagna and some Ham and Potato Casserole. After taking a bite of the lasagna, I checked the ingredients and number two on the list is Cottage Cheese! What in the actual...?? Who does that? Not a sign of any garlic at all. Look at my pics for the ingredients yourself. Ham and Potato thing was terrible. Just awful. She didn't even eat that. I'm not even sure who would like that. Additionally, the directions are crap in the casseroles. Double them all as far as time is concerned. I'm not sure if it's my tastebuds that are shit now from all of the spicy food I am used to, or if this stuff is really not as good as the mystique and nostalgia that country folks like to say it has. People are friendly, the place is fairly well kept for an old country bakery . You can see the kitchen making the baked goods. I just don't dig it. '24 - 48/100 read more

Although the baked goods are decent, the customer service makes a visit here almost unbearable. If a customer comes into your establishment to spend their hard-earned money, a simple greeting, thank you, and smile go a long way to make for a good experience. But here at Ole Country Bakery, those things don't happen. The staff clearly don't value their customers. It's sad when we try to support local business, but find the service at Walmart to be better. Won't be stopping here again. Be advised. read more

I live in Columbus, and had not been to the Ole Country Bakery in a long time. Today I got 8 Chocolate Chip Cookies. I ate part of one, and was very much disappointed. The choc chips in the cookie were extremely small, and the taste of the cookie was even more disappointing. There was no choc chip cookie taste to any of the cookie. I bit off a part with no choc chips for the taste, and it did not have any cookie taste. I have gotten Choc chip cookies at Peppers in Columbus that are way better than the ones I got at Ole Country Bakery today... The service was great, but the cookies were very disappointing... I will not make that drive again. The owner or a quality control worker should eat one of the cookies and see if they are good to them. read more

What a nice roadside stop to have breakfast, lunch or a snack from their wonderful bakery. I visited last week while passing through and realized I had been here before many years ago. All I wanted was a chocolate brownie and the one I bought was simply delish. Oh my, I could have eaten another and another and.... I have no doubt the breakfast meals and lunch sandwiches are just as good. This place has an old timey feel to it so come here and step back in time and enjoy. Closed weekends. read more

OMGEEZY!!! Everything is homemade! There is an open window and you can watch as they make everything. Breads, sweets, sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, salads, sooo good! They are friendly and willing to answer any questions. As soon as you walk in it feels like a BIG OL HUG!! I highly recommend this little eatery. Even if it's just for a Saturday outing. read more

I only got an iced coffee with milk, and regret not purchasing anything else. The place smelled absolutely amazing. The coffee was so smooth and every time I brought the cup towards my mouth for a sip, I smelled the incredible milk/cream they used. I learned later that they roast the coffee beans locally in small batches. This place sets the standard for what I believe a well crafted community spot should be. I have not been anywhere else that compares, and I will be back here as often as possible! read more

We were traveling up hwy 45 from Mobile to Memphis and there is not much to choose from when it is lunch time. We found this place and the reviews looked good so we decided to give it a try. And am I glad we did. The food here is fixed by really nice and polite Mennonite. If you want a sandwich you get in line and tell what you want on it. Similar to a Subway you tell what bread, meat, cheese and extras you want. They add a pickle and it's $5 to $6. The drink and any chips are extra but, reasonable. I got a turkey and the meat was very generous. My wife got ham and it was also a generous serving. They have homemade breads, sweets, cookies, cakes and doughnuts. You can't leave without buying something sweet. We got some peanut butter cookies and some chocolate chip cookies. The food and the sweets were all delicious. This is where we will stop next time we travel this way. read more

A must stop! Stopped in on the way to the beach & was not disappointed. My mom & I got chicken salad sandwhiches to eat in the car. We were able to save half of the sandwhich for the next day because the portion was so large! We also got sausage & cheese ball, chocolate chip cookie & Amish Friendship bread which were all very yummy! However, I think the best thing would have to be their frozen prepared meals. We picked up the lasagna to take to the beach & WOW best I've ever eaten. I can't wait to try the other things from Ole Country Bakery! read more

We have been going to Starkville for several years and stop here strictly for the pecan pies. We are Texans and love our pecan pies but this place has the best! We usually get five for the freezer. The pies are even wonderful after they are frozen; we love eating a slice straight out of the freezer. We have been told they only make pecan pies in the Fall so we always place an order to make sure they are making them and also do not sell out before we get there. Now if they would only offer shipping for us that do not live close by. read more

While traveling out of state in the middle of nowhere in Brooksville, MS, I ran across this only restaurant in the area that I'm aware of. I went inside skeptical on the quality of food I might end up with but was pleasantly surprised. The 4 meat sub sub and peanut butter cookie was amazing. What a great bakery! We popped in one Saturday morning on a road trip with some friends and was glad we did. We all got biscuits with ham or sausage and was satisfied. They were good but could have gotten a better breakfast at Hardee's. But the real reason for the four stars was the baked goods. We tried the apple fritters, cheese sausage balls, and bought 5 different loaves of bread. The first bite into the fritter and the heavens opened up and the angels sang. Moist, flavorful and fresh, this is baking at its best and the prices were really good. If you get the chance to stop in then don't miss it! read more

As you travel south on HWY 45 thru the east side of Mississippi you will go by a lot of small towns that are not right on the Highway. You will see the signs, but you by-pass most all of them. You will see a lot of rich farm land usually growing soy beans or cotton. After leaving West Point, Ms. ( one town that has 2 maybe 3 light signals) there isn't much as far as eating establishments (there is a McDonalds in Macon). There are a lot of Mennonite wood shops and then the Ole Country Bakery which is off the road a bit in Brookfield. The staff is dedicated to doing the best whether it be in pastry, cookies, or sandwiches. You will usually see a bunch of cars arounds it, especially between 11 am and 12. You have to be patient, go in place your order and deal with the crowd. Very good pastries (all handmade) and sandwiches that are delicious. Great place! Got a delicious turkey sandwich, cinnamon bread, wheat bread and an Apple stuffed donut. Sandwich had plenty of meat. Cinnamon bread made great breakfast the next day. Everyone was friendly and the inside was super clean. A must try if you are going through the area. read more
