They were giving away a pair of tickets to the Janet Jackson concert. I only needed to go to their website to apply. I took a chance on faith and registered. I heard nothing for a few days . I had given up but that Friday I received a call saying they had a pair of tickets for me to the concert. I was screaming...A free pair of tickets to see James Jackson. Yes, I'm coming. I calmly took their address and went back into my meeting. Once I got my lunch break, I headed straight to Salem Media. It's a simply grey building near downtown HONOLULU. The parking there is limited to 5-6 stalls but if you wait patiently people move from them quickly. When I reached the 2nd floor the office, the gentleman at the desk was really cool. I said I'm here for My Tickets. So excited that I had to ask him to take a picture. This is truly a blessing. The next night, Saturday Night my husband and I arrive early because I knew there would be long lines. Guess what..we were able to skip the line. We got seated while everyone was waiting to come in. The host, Guy Hagi, is excellent. The problem is with Augie T. He makes jokes on the restaurant and food - basically, using airtime to showcase his "comedy act." It's hard to imagine how anyone watching would seriously believe how great the restaurant and food is, When Augie T was unavailable and replaced with another co-host, the segment improved and became much enjoyable. Please consider replacing Augie T or just have Mr Hagi do the segments himself! Food is not meant to be funny but enjoyed for it's taste. This is no joke.

I almost missed it because it right on the corner. I would have probably missed it if I didn't see a sign and staff out there waving us in. First of all, I'd like to say that PBS Hawaii does an awesome job exciting young minds to create videos. They run a great program called Hiki No which are student produced video stories. I'm really into learning and trying to teach my students how to do that. I have been trying for years but PBS Hawaii's program is wonderful. In the past I've just had to learn on my own. I'm not a professional videographer or even photographer so I don't really know what I'm doing. With Hiki No, they provide mentors to students to help them with their projects. This will be my first year participating in this with my school but we are excited. I'm excited for my students and also myself. I'm glad that I can take part in this process. Anyways, I was at PBS Hawaii because they had several breakout sessions during the day to teach us more about the video process. It was great. They had actual industry professionals giving teachers advice of how to start and what kind of shots would be best. For me, it was the first time that I really felt like I could do this. I'm excited for my students that they get expert help this year. Everyone at PBS Hawaii is wonderful. They're excited to learn about future projects and willing to work with new students.

It has since broken way from the state and renamed and rebranded itself to PBS Hawaii, which I think has done wonders for the organization. The brand new multi-million dollar broadcasting facility on the corner of Sand Island Access Road and Nimitz is a HUGE improvement from their previous facility at UH Manoa, and I'll bet this would not have been possible had it still been under the ownership/management of the state. This new facility enables PBS Hawaii to produce a lot of great local programming including HIKI NO, which are stories on topics of local interest, made and produced by Hawaii's own middle and high schoolers from public and private schools! In addition to the quality programming that PBS Hawaii airs on TV, it also hosts exclusive events for Keiki Club members, such as this past weekend's halloween costume party which was held at their brand new studio. As keiki club members, we got a little peak at their new facility and also got a photo op with Daniel Tiger! But when my internet bill went up to $100 a month. I'd had enough. So I stopped by the Hawaii Telcom kiosk in Windward Mall. I met and was helped by Regina Espinoza (she gave me her card to share) . She shared about their program that is only $40/month for high speed internet, the process is locked in for 5 years, this process includes the router AND the first 2 months are free. She didn't have to tell me much more. I was sold at $40/month! She was able to set me up for install the following Wednesday, we decided on a time, afternoon. And we were set to go. On Wednesday afternoon, Robby our installer called to confirm the appointment and to let us know about what time he'd be at our home. Then he called again while he was on his way. My home is in a warehouse, so during the work day, parking can get a little tight. So I called him and told him that I'd make sure that he had a place to park. I had him park in my stall, while I ran some errands. I came home when I knew the parking lot would be clear. And Robbie was leaving to go up the road to make some kind of connection he needed for my install. He came back after a short while. He was very pleasant and courteous. He helped me download the app that I needed to complete the set up, walked me through the app set up and even helped me put my router up, off the floor, so my internet service wouldn't be so spotty. Last of all he asked if I was keeping Spectrum, I told him no way. And asked him if he'd help me take the Spectrum hardware off. He took all the PCs wrapped all the cords and put them on the floor in an easy place for me to get to. I can't express what an excellent level of excellence I received. If you want to hear a true-crime story, keep reading, if not, just skip to my synopsis in the last paragraph. A seemingly nice salesman walked around our neighborhood making all kinds of sales and speed claims and price claims, et cetera. He managed to wrangle my contact info out of my dear wife so that he could contact me and inform me of my options, and my very first call is an autodial saying that I'm signed up for a service installation at some date and time they decided to choose?!! Then, I start receiving spam emails about an upcoming service install. I call them up and the man on the line with a thick accent is asking me what the name on my account is and I'm trying to explain that I never even spoke with the sales person, much less agreed to any service, much less, created an account with them. I offer my name and nope! That's not it. We finally figure out that they snaked my wife's name and they've now made up an account with her name on it and now they want me to have her authorize me to speak on her behalf?!! So basically we're now in identity theft territory. I patiently but firmly ask to make a formal complaint against this salesman who conned my wife. But surprise, surprise, the system somehow does not list the name of the salesman. (But I guarantee the company would know who to credit with the "sale" if it somehow went through, otherwise, Mr. Salesman would not be visiting houses if he isn't getting paid.) I am told that they will look into it and "if they can figure it out", they will get back to me. After pressing the agent on the phone, he admits that they actually don't really have that info available to them in their system (so obviously, they would have never called me back). Synopsis: This company is basically a black hole of starless (pun fully intended) darkness: lying and identity-thieving salespeople, zero transparency on who sold or setup our "account". It's institutionalized theft. Run, do not walk from them and for the love of Pete, do NOT give anyone who represents them or claims to represent them your contact info- Take a card (if you MUST) and tell them, that WE will call YOU (if/when we lose our minds, forget completely about this Yelp review (and the thousand like it), and are looking to begin a long term, abusive relationship, against our favor). 2026-07-06----Response to Maria (or is it Jode?) from HawaiianTelcom. I don't have time to further detail anything that hasn't already been said. If, however, you can provide proof that your sales people have been retrained to NOT sign people up for service they never agreed to, AND show proof that Hawaiian Telcom has updated their systems to have some transparency by simply allowing their own "help" department visibility into who made the sale, then I will consider revisiting my review. But until then, this is my honest experience and a warning to my friends and neighbors to not give your info to these folks. The lack of accountability seems institutionalized and if so, it would indicate that the apple is rotten to the core.

Doug and his crew at FX Studios, Are AWESOME, we are very…read morevery happy with our Wedding video, Doug was very thorough with getting to know us showing he cares and pays attention to detail and made sure we were happy with everything. Quality is top notch. FX STUDIO crew went beyond what was contracted for, and shot and edited an additional 3rd camera. Got great close-ups and captured all the emotions we had. Great video coverage of our whole event. After the final edit all the camera angles, timing, side by side action reactions are so awesome. Re-living all the great times of our Wedding and even things we didn't see or things that went by so fast. Created a great Story for us to re-live every time we watch it. On day of pick up Doug went over everything on how to operate the Blu Ray video, the format of the hard drive for different computer systems (apple, windows), he also recommended eventually backing up to another source because hardware does have a shelf life. Doug just wants to make sure we will be able to view this video for the rest of our lives. Thank you very much to FX STUDIO.

He didn't cash it and was nice to mail the check back to me. It was the initial call that I knew right away that Doug was a great person to work with. It was so easy to talk to him. So much ALOHA and so much knowledge about his craft. Even before accepting the job, he already took initiative to help me understand the process and what it took to make this slideshow the best it could be. I only wished to have seen how all of this would have turned out. I know for sure it would have been all I wanted just in the short time of working with Doug. Call him cause he's awesome to work with.
