A wee update as I've now been back to Pane e Vino to try their takeaway options. I fancied a…read moresandwich and initially ordered a vegetarian sandwich with grilled aubergine and peppers, but they were all out of aubergine. Sad times. I went with my second choice which was the pastrami, Emmental & gherkin which is served on foccacia. It was made fresh while I waited and everything was prepared for my order - the pastrami and Emmental sliced then and there, which was nice to see. It was all wrapped up in greaseproof paper and came to £4.50 which is a little more than I'd normally like to pay for a sandwich. That being said, it was lovely and everything was perfectly constructed and portioned. There is seating inside the deli as well, so you can get your sandwich (or pasta) to have in, which I think I'll try next time.

Bread, Ham, Cheese Please…read more.. So decided to go for a hurl* the other day and got a bit hungry, so stopped at Pane e Vino for a plate of soup and a piece. It's old school and every corner of this deli is an Italian grocery discovery. But for now it was immediate consumption we were after. There were two soups on offer, both veg brothy (£3.50) but being cold outside that was ok and there're plenty of sandwiches (£4.50-£5.50) to choose from, but no soup and sandwich deal :-/ There's a feel of community here and we happened to stumble upon the "largest panettone in Scotland" raffle. All good fun and I can see why the warmth of service draws regulars back for their Sunday morning cappuccino. Just be aware though, when you order a ham and cheese sandwich (and there are many varieties of ham and cheese here), that's exactly what you get - Bread, ham, cheese. No mayo, lettuce or tomato, but the coffee can moisten your palate. * hurl: a ride or drive in a vehicle (usually with wheels).

Now it's smaller so they have less take-home meal options but I guess that's because they're focussing on dining in. I popped in to grab some lunch and initially couldn't even find a takeaway menu. Hint, it's on the wall behind you. I still wasn't sure what to get from those options but thankfully I spied some pre-made wraps in the fridge where the juices are. Chargrilled chicken with chipotle mayo sounded like a winner - that and a can of juice (aka coca cola) set me back a small £4. How was the wrap? Amazing. Actually - more than amazing. It was better than I expected and just the perfect size for lunch. There was some spinach in there and the whole thing had a really nice chargrilled flavour, I think the wrap was a little bit toasted too. Yum. I don't visit here enough seeing as it's one of the few good places in the local area so I'm sure I'll be back again soon.

It's nestled in between charity shops and a post-office and provides the eye with something fresh to ingest in the otherwise dull surroundings. Here, one can find a vast selection of homemade delights ranging from sweets and pastries and cakes to chunks of lasagne and fish-cakes and baguettes. The presentation is beautiful and the choice overwhelming. My favourites include the apple and cinnamon scones which come complete with an exqiusitely perfect sprinkling of icing sugar. However, the service leaves much to be desired. I would be more willing to pay the hefty prices that 'eat' demand for their homemade produce and the fresh ingredients and supplies that they source from all the best places if I felt like the staff were willing to sell it to me. I have had many experiences in 'eat' as I now live around the corner and pass it every day, and the majority have left me with a sour taste in my mouth (not resulting from the chef's efforts in the kitchen). Some staff in this deli are rude and frankly couldn't be bothered serving you. Minus a star for poor customer relation! Another downside to this deli is their coffee. Nearly every time I order a coffee (which takes ages to make, so if you want coffee before you get your train you should really get there half an hour early) the milk is denatured and the drink is too hot to touch for at least an hour. Minus a star for awful coffee! Aside from this, the cafe is pretty and clean. Perhaps it's best for taking away food and finding some nice fresh cheeses or cured meats for a special occasion; that's if the staff can muster up the effort to acknowledge you in the first place.

This is something, which even I in my hunting out of new, emerging places (for this read: good reviews and interesting concepts; but in reality up themselves, expensive and out of business in six months) have not come across before. So for this factor alone, it's worth having a nosey and seeing what you make of it. They do have some yummy organic treats in here, some a little bit different and some which any foodie will have encountered at some point before. I say this, because of my experience of working in a deli/roll shop in Pollokshields for a year and witnessing the rise of organic product - especially in the pickled, dried and erm, similar forms. Meanwhile, they have a small but very nice selection of flowers on offer. Though, I would rather purchase a pot plant, so don't really rate these with too much enthusiasm. The staff in here have got to be one of the best things are this place. They are very friendly, pleasant and chatty. It's clear they know their stock very well and also have a good understanding and knowledge of their wider market area. The prices are not to bad for some products considering they are organic, but I still find them a little too much. Although, this is coming from a part-time (and temporarily) employed student.

Before leaving the till area I pointed this out to the girls on duty and was told to go to customer service for a refund. Walked straight over which must have taken about 3 minutes. Customer service assistant said that's strange but left and went to speak to someone else. After waiting for about 5 minutes I went over to her and she was with security going through the cameras!! I asked why and was told she was just doing her job. If she had checked the time on my receipt she would have known I didn't have time to leave the store and come back in. Or if she spoke to the girls at the self service are she would have known I pointed out the mistake to them before leaving the area. After a while she said come over and I will refund your money, didn't say a word to me and I asked if she knew what happened and she said NO!! I said it would be nice to get an apology for being treated like a shop lifter and again I was told she was just doing her job!! On getting home a friend said check your receipt against your shopping and it turns out the roast beef slices I bought came up as a jogging suit. So if customer service assistant had checked my shopping she would have seen what happened, a mix up with bar codes. So I was treated badly due to a Tesco error. Customer service is appalling.
