One of the things that drew me toward his pictures were the vibrant colors he uses and his brilliant eye for wide landscape shots. I wanted a photographer who would capture the stunning summer colors of the garden and the grandeur that our venue exuded. I reached out to Ed and he worked with my budget. I couldn't believe how reasonably priced he is for his quality of work. Moreover, the final payment is to be submitted a week AFTER the wedding which really helps when all the other vendors are basically due at the same time. He uses the best equipment out there and will hike up a mountain if you need him to, just to get the shot. Ed is very sweet and responsive via email. He answered any questions we had and listened to our vision for the big day. I emailed him a list of the photos I knew I definitely wanted and he took each and every single one. I also had an idea for some photos of the girls and I jumping on the bed with our robes on and he was more than willing to listen and try it out- he even seemed to enjoy shooting it as much as we did! He did not leave our side all day/night, and in the evening pulled us away for some incredibly stunning evening shots by the fountains. They were flexible with everything-- the time, the place, the ceremony. She has a huge packet of sample ceremonies, so we picked one and then swapped some more personal things in like our own vows and a reading we selected. During the ceremony, Judie spoke with such a joyful tone, I truly felt like she knew us and was so happy we were getting married. Liam is the photographer, and while he might seem a little shy at first, he is a BLAST to work with. I told him that we'd like nice, bright photos, and also expressed my concern regarding some ugly fence in the background. He really made everything work, and we had a great time during our one-hour photo shoot. We got 50 pictures back (less than a week later) and LOVE every single one of them. Let's start here- there's absolutely no way we could have had such a perfect wedding day without Kate & Jennifer. Our wedding was held at the Metropolitan Building in Long Island City and while the staff there is wonderful, there isn't a day of coordinator to help with all the details leading up to the day. As funny as it sounds, the reason I decided I was hiring a wedding planner was because I had a moment about halfway through planning where I thought to myself "who's going to cue the music and make sure we all know when to walk down the aisle?"While my husband was initially skeptical and it wasn't a cost we had budgeted for, he agreed. Enter Kate. She knows the Metropolitan Building like the back of her hand (seriously. I think our wedding was like her 106th here). About 6 weeks before our wedding, we did a walk through with Kate to select items, go over floor plans and just talk about the experience we want our guests to have. We walked out that day and my husband exhaled and said "this is literally the best money we've ever spent. No way we could do this without her". Kate & Jen did what we feel was so beyond partial planning. They contacted vendors, created floor plans and timelines for the day, helped us select antiques to be used to decorate the space, eased any nerves we had and yes, told us when it was time to walk down the aisle. Jerry Sibal was one of 8 florists that my venue required we use for wedding flowers. I e-mailed them to request a meeting to formulate a proposal, and they were very professional, responsive, and seemed motivated. I gave them my budget of a flexible 5k, which is low for NYC, and we arranged to meet. I met with a salesperson from the office, and we talked about what I wanted in terms of flowers. The salesperson flat out told me that their average wedding flower budget is around 10k, and made it seem like I was lucky to be able to work with them, and that they were doing me a favor by working within my 5k budget. She constantly referred to Jerry as an artist. I understand that it is NYC, and there are some fancy people, and high end floral artists, and all that crap, and that's fine. But if you don't want to do simple, seasonal arrangements for 5k, then don't even waste my time by meeting with me. Just say upfront that you have a 10k minimum like Jes Gordon, and don't be condescending to me. We left off with the salesperson promising me a proposal within a week. I said no rush, I just needed it by the end of the year. Well, we met in November, and 2 months later I received one excuse that their computer system was down, and no proposal. It was a no-brainer to use another florist. I honestly don't know how these companies stay in business.

The carpets smelled so bad that I genuinely started feeling dizzy while setting up for my bride. The loading dock is right by the dumpster area, and the smell back there is overwhelming. There was garbage juice trailing from the dumpster area toward the kitchen where they prepare the food, which was honestly shocking to see. The entire area looked neglected and unsanitary. The vendor entrance hallway had two fly traps that were completely covered in dead flies and looked like they hadn't been changed in a very long time. It was disgusting. What bothered me even more than the cleanliness was how the staff treated vendors. We were treated like second-class citizens. I was told I wasn't allowed to use the main bathroom and had to go all the way to the basement instead. I've worked at many venues and have never experienced separate bathrooms based on whether you're a vendor or a guest. I also got lectured for arriving 30 minutes late to set up, even though it had absolutely no impact on the event and the party wasn't starting for another six hours. Despite having plenty of time, we were constantly rushed throughout setup. The entire experience felt unnecessarily hostile and unprofessional. They made sure to remind every vendor exactly where we stood. If you're looking for a similar venue, save yourself the headache and book Greentree Country Club instead. The staff is welcoming and respectful, the venue is spotless, the views are beautiful, and the overall experience is everything Surf's Club should strive to be. I won't be returning to Surf's Club, and based on my experience, I wouldn't recommend it.

One thing I was worried about was the smell of the fresh mulch outside during our visits but thankfully, that was not a problem during our actual wedding day! The venue came with my very own bridal attendant, Breanna who was very knowledgeable and learned how to bustle both of my dresses on her own without my asking, which i was very impressed with! I'm so grateful for her in making the day run so smoothly and someone to chill with when I had a moment to myself. Overall, the venue was amazing.
