Every time I looked through a shelf, I seen something new. There were a lot of different genres, however I don't think they were organized very well. It was also difficult to walk through the store as everything was pretty tightly packed in. The lady who checked me out was very kind. We had a brief discussion about the interview I was waiting to attend. She told me to remember to just keep breathing, which I appreciated greatly. Besides that interaction, no one else in the store talked to or approached me. It would have been nice to be welcomed in. Altogether, though, a very sweet shop ! With a ton of variety.

Even with all the space they look pretty busy whenever I pass by, but that's only been on weekends, so it may be quieter during the week. On a weekend afternoon, though, you will not find quiet here. They have all the standard drinks you expect at a coffee shop and lots of fun specials, but the food selection is a little limited. I think they normally serve soup Mon-Sat but they were out when I got there. I got a bagel with schmear, a zebra (chocolate crinkle) cookie, and one of the February specials called "Opposites Attract" which was a raspberry chai latte. Everything I got was pretty good, especially the fresh, chewy zebra cookie. They warmed it up which made it just a little gooey. The raspberry chai was an interesting combination. i wasn't completely sold on the raspberry - I didn't dislike it but probably wouldn't get it again - but I think I liked the chai itself. The baristas and bookstore staff were all welcoming, and the vibe is very inclusive. I've come in and looked around the store a few times, and the staff seems approachable if you need anything but will leave you alone if you're just browsing.

This bookstore has lots of children's books, from picture books to graphic novels. I saw some ancient Nancy Drew novels, with original covers. I'm not a Nancy Drew head, but I can appreciate a vintage mystery collection when I see one. One of the best things about Fallen Leaf Books is that they leave (leaf?) you the eff alone. I don't remember if anyone greeted me or talked to me, and frankly, I don't care. All I need in a bookstore is books and cozy nooks and quietude, and that's what you'll find here.

As you enter, you notice long rows of paperback books, sorted by genre, that run the entire length of the main room. Towards the back, there is a room on the left that has some $2 hardbacks. On the right, is another small room that has some True Crime and Sci-Fi novels. Occasionally, you will find free standing racks where collections of a specific author have been gathered. The checkout counter is to your right of where you enter. There, you pay 1/2 price of the suggested price printed by the publishers. You can also bring in books you wish to part with for in-store credits. (I didn't ask about how much they give, but I assume it's less than half price.) Basically, just take your time browsing the racks. The place has a lot of books, most were in good condition, but definitely read before. I was able to find a lot of authors I that I follow, but the collections were incomplete. There are art books, foreign language books, references, sci fi, mystery, romance, kids books, and more. It's not necessarily cheap, but the selection is eclectic. Their discount books bring me in, too, but I inevitably leave with a stack. My father did this. I inherited volumes from him, and added to it, refining the collection along the way. It's plainly stunning to see the variety of content available here. This store is a magnet for the mind. As I mentioned in my prior review, it's not as large as Powell's in Portland, or has the karma of City Lights in San Francisco, but in a way, it's close the same magnetism you feel in a really good used bookstore. Plan to spend time, and go oomph when you carry the stack when you leave. It's a dangerous place, with dangerous ideas. Go there.

Instead, I was blindsided by what can only be described as a full-scale North Pole invasion... in early November. There were trees. There were lights. There were carols. I swear a ceramic Santa winked at me while I was still trying to process the fact that it was 72 degrees outside and my jack-o'-lantern was still holding on. Don't get me wrong -- I love Christmas as much as the next caffeine-fueled Midwesterner, but I'd at least like to digest my Halloween candy before I'm peer-pressured into buying an elf-themed potholder.

Primitive Porch just moved into this location in February, 2018, which use to be the home of Lighthouse Christian Bookstore. They kept the book section and Cafe from the Lighthouse Bookstore. Smoothies and sandwiches are just steps away from the shopping. You can easily spend an hour plus browsing all the unique pieces throughout this large store. Seasonal items are gorgeous, primitive everything (well, almost), all types of candles, beautiful quilts, florals, pottery, shelves, cabinets, furniture and so much more will keep you busy. The second floor has a large women's boutique with a dressing room and even more home decor. Jewelry and scraves can be found downstairs by checkout. Outdoors, by the entrance, is patio furniture and garden decor plus many cement statues. The staff was so helpful and friendly! The prices are reasonable and affordable. Worth the trip and I could have spent hours there. Giant trees, named elves that come with adoption papers, and the friendliest staff. The entire place is dripping in holiday decor of every theme, color, and material - you will be inspired and leave smiling.
