The organization at Landlocked Music was very precise and made things very easy for me to find. I came into the store for the first time ever and I was looking for pretty specific albums for my collection which included Panorama album from The Cars, In Color from Cheap Trick, Dream Police from Cheap Trick and I was also kinda looking for some new cds from The Cure and The Smiths. I had went to a few other cd shops before coming here today and I only found one Cheap Trick cd but after coming to Landlocked Music I had almost entirely checked off my list and I left the store with all the Cheap Trick cds I had been searching for, the exact Panorama album I had been looking for by The Cars, and I also was able to find two new Smiths cds + two new Cure cds. I must say this place has a lot of selection and I really appreciate that everything is very organized it made the shopping experience extremely enjoyable. Also the staff were very kind and when I was checking out one of the people working gave me an extra cd case since one of the ones I bought was cracked which was very nice. Also the prices were very reasonable I was able to get like-new cds for 6 bucks and there was also an area with discounted cds which was extremely cool. All I can say is If you are looking to add to your cd collection I can't recommend this place enough. read more

They do not stand by the authenticity or condition of the products they sell. Extraordinarily unprincipled owner gets caught in a lie but instead of taking accountability he continued to lie and gaslight me. I cannot support the business of an unapologetically rude person - even if they had the best prices and widest selection in the world I would never shop here again. It's hard for me to imagine supporting a shop owned by someone who is incapable of treating others with decency. My experience has given me every indication that Landlocked is a predatory, bad-faith business with abysmal customer service, and you cannot trust anything they list as NEW unless it is factory sealed in original shrink. read more

I dropped in while traveling to check out the Bloomington indie record store scene. Landlocked is a local institution, I'm told. It seems to lean mostly to new records, and the price of new records is appropriate. I was hoping for more used, but there is a large "new arrivals" section and I found an LP I was looking for there. The shop also features CDs, books, 45s and cassettes. I didn't have a lot of time to spend and I wish I had time to dig through the crates of used albums on the floor. Maybe another time. read more

Made my first visit to Landlocked today - and walked out with three CDs. They have a large and well-stocked variety of both CDs and vinyl. Wonderful old-school record store, the kind you can browse for hours. No attitude (staff seemed very friendly) just lots and lots of great music. Probably my overall favorite music store in downtown Bloomington. Their selection of records and CDs was pretty massive. They seemed to have a lot of stuff I have been looking for for awhile. They also had a great bin of discounted CDs with some really interesting finds within. Everything was very reasonably priced overall. The staff was nice. This would definitely be a place I would frequent if I lived in the area. read more

The best record store in Indiana benefits from being in an arts community that concentrates a wide variety of music lovers into a medium-sized University town. Still, owners make a store and in this case, their prices are fair, selection is wide and well-curated, and even the buyback is honest. Sections ranging from International to Kraut to Avant-Garde to Soul to Folk...they do a great job of having at least a decent, quality stash of each, housed in a small-but-attractive (and hardwood-floored) store right off the downtown Courthouse square. The used selection is always changing---thank you very much, college students/townies and your frequent need for cash. If you're lucky, prey on some Numero Group gems, wide swaths of the Touch back-catalog, or that copy of Harvest you've always needed to add to your vinyl collection. The staff are knowledgeable, do special orders (imports? not a problem), and best of all---have great taste. No amount of training can supply that, so be thankful and ask for recommendations based on what you dig, or even what's playing in-store. You'll also find listening stations, an updated concert list, bargain vinyl, local tunes, special editions, and my personal favorite, clear plastic vinyl sleeves at 5-for-$1. read more

If you live in Bloomington, there's no reason that you should buy CDs or LPs elsewhere. Ambience is ideal and the staff is appropriately aloof unless asked for help (and non-judgmental if you go for Ke$ha instead of Animal Collective) Perhaps most importantly, Landlocked has the albums you can't get at big box retailers and it's locally owned. Despite the excellent downtown location it has extremely good prices. Based on loyalty and location, they could easily gouge another 5 dollars per disc, but most indie CDs are 10-12 and major labels are only a few dollars more. Landlocked is the only proper record store in Bloomington (except for perhaps TD's, which is somewhat less convenient and appealing). If you're going to get music, you should get it here. read more

Unless you're looking for new Top 40, Landlocked is the absolute best place for CDs and vinyl in Bloomington. All genres covered. Lots of things to listen to. Staff that knows about everything and like another yelper suggested, don't judge. Also, don't go thinking that because they're indie they're more expensive. They're often cheaper than what you'd pay at B&N or some other crap story. read more

One of THE best record store I've ever visited! Parking/Area: You can park on the street or a ways down the road. Either way is fine because Bloomington is such a nice town to walk through. The Store: Everything is nice and organized. Easy to find what you need and easy to just browse. Can't beat the free pins and stickers on the counter. The guy working was one of the nicest dudes I've ever met working a shop. We talked about the fine line record stores must walk. Too much selection and the prices must go up. This store has that balance perfected! Prices right where you want them. Sometimes lower than from the label and sometimes a couple bucks more but never any gauging! I really like how they have hard-to-find records up above the shelves (and decently priced to boot!) Pretty large selection of vinyl but not too large that you cannot dig through all of it. My only gripe is that I do not live close enough to come here more often. There are 2 incredible record stores Indiana. One is Landlocked in Bloomington and the other is Village Green Records in Muncie. read more

this is great. so many of the vinyls are pretty cheap. it took me so much effort to not drop a crapload of money into their coffers. their selection is nice and varied, that is, the selection wasn't just loaded up the wazoo with indie stuff. i found some choice metal and hardcore records up in there. my only complaint really is that the metal vinyl selection is lackluster. come on, us metalheads collect vinyl too, you know? and maybe more electronic CDs, yo! i liked seeing that little kid run up and down the aisles and rock out at the listening station. read more

Love this record store! They have a fantastic selection of vinyl. The only reason I'm removing one star is because I went there to buy a record player and, without my knowledge, they sold me the display at full price. I realized it was the display record player when I got home and opened it and saw scratches all over the lid (had there not been a lot I wouldn't complain otherwise). It was on display where anyone could mess with it. Although, when I called to let them know about my disappointment they were kind enough to give me a little discount to make up for the scratched lid. I will continue to go back any chance I get. Bloomington was once voted as one of the rudest cities in America. Come into Landlock Music and one may find themselfs doubting that for sure. The staff here has got to be the friendliest and most knowelegable I've come across in Bloomington. They don't just hire the staff for their looks that's for sure. Then when it comes down to their selection of records and cds they have never failed even once to have an artist I was looking for. I even threw a curve ball at them once by asking for an album I never thought anyone would have, just to test them, but sure enough they had it. When I bought my first album from them I was a free sticker with their name on it to put on my car, as everyone does. Needless to say that sticker isn't on my car so I can seem trendy but as an actual recommendation that everyone buy their music there. read more

Their new location just off the downtown square on N. Walnut makes this store even better. I have never met someone who knows more about music than Jason. The ambience is great. The newsletter, chock full of a diverse array of album reviews, upcoming release announcements, and a show calendar, is wonderful - go to their website to sign up. They have coffee to sip while you browse and a listening station, too. There is no reason to shop for CDs at places like Best Buy when there's Landlocked. Their prices are reasonable, too. read more
