This house turned shop is located just a short distance north of downtown Columbus. It takes a bit…read moreof attention to approach since the neighborhood is filled with "one way" streets. Once you find it, there is street parking on Home Ave and a small lot on the property, both options free. You enter the shop on the northeast end of the building. There is a showroom of items that give you an instant feel of nicely arranged decor and furniture with the checkout counter in the back of this room. The rest of the business is arranged in an oval pattern of rooms that let you easily flow through the shop and finish back at the checkout. Along the way, I found a couple brands of candles gathered into displays, and lots of furniture; some painted, some still with original finish. I even found a hallway filled with dog treats! But mainly, there are lots of antique items that are in different condition dispersed among home decor accessories and furniture. If anything, the orderliness and open spacing feel almost empty compared to the majority of antique shops I have visited that are packed to overflowing. It made for a nice change of pace when antiquing. Because of the nice displays, it can be inspirational to shoppers for possible ways to display the items in their own homes. However, the catalog sent me a 20% off coupon which was a better deal so I took a chance and ordered something I'd been admiring. The box they sent my items in was very tall which was surprising because the items I ordered were small; less than 7 inches in height. The individual items were placed in one long piece of styrofoam. While the styrofoam did help the items arrive safely, it was messy and flakey and got all over my floor which I then had to vacuum right away. Another thing about styrofoam is that it is not biodegradable. I wish they used greener shipping materials. I believe sustainability is an important value to today's consumers. The items I ordered did look like the picture. However, the material was not as expected. I decided these wouldn't work for me so I, sadly, had to return them. I called the company to get a return label. It did not come in the box. The quote seemed high so I went to the post office to see if I could get a lower price. The post office price was exactly the same and even though the weight of the items was only a few pounds, the size of the box made it more costly to ship back which I felt could have been avoided due to the size of the individual items not being very large. It would have been a mess for me to take everything out and repackage it due to the styrofoam. I inquired why they did not have discounted labels. They said that my label was discounted. I told them their discounted label was the same price as the post office. They let me know that it was a discounted FedEx label. In my situation, the FedEx price was originally more than the USPS price. There was no option to get a discounted USPS label. Shipping is also taxed with this company so that adds on to an already high shipping cost. Also, it says on their website if you get free shipping and make a return that you then have to pay for shipping again both ways so I'm glad I had the 20% off coupon instead. There are positive things about this company which I must mention. The order did arrive in a timely manner. They were very responsive to my e-mails and calls. They also were very quick to refund my money (minus the expensive shipping costs). I felt they were honest with what their policies were and they were always polite when I called them. When it comes to catalogs online, I value low cost shipping on items and returns especially since I can't see the items in person first. I'm glad I tried this company and satisfied my curiosity but due to the high cost of returning my item, I don't think I will order from them again.

Finally got help when we said out loud "Maybe we can find someone who works here". No real help was offered. We asked about bedroom furniture and were told that they mostly work with designers. Oh, really? We looked at area rugs and window coverings, but again, no assistance was offered even though there was absolutely no one else in the store. So...maybe we don't look like we can afford their furnishings? Maybe we aren't their type of customer? We definitely felt like they had no time for us. We took our business across town, purchased everything we wanted at Distinctive Furnishings and even ordered some of the exact items we saw at Etc from Distinctive Furnishings at a lower price point. Beautiful store, but the customer service is sorely lacking. We won't sully their store with our presence again.
