Very expensive services went else where for a fraction of the cost and was able to get seen sooner

People with chronic pain or pain disabilities should go elsewhere. I made an appointment for a root canal at Olney Endodontics because they have nitrous. I have fibromyalgia, and have lived with it for a long time. When I was young, I allowed dental professionals to badger me out of using nitrous for major dental procedures. Never again. I thought Olney Endodontics would be a safe place because they were equipped to offer appropriate pain management. Instead, the doctor responded with an incredulous vocal tone to my descriptions of very basic, very common aspects of fibromyalgia, stuff any layperson could have found out in five minutes and that every health care professional ought already to know. She asked me four times, with increasing incredulity, "But what do you believe nitrous will do for you?" And when I told her what it was like to experience a fibromyalgic flare-up, she replied, "So you need the nitrous for your anxiety?" It was the most old-school all-in-your-head dismissal, something I hadn't heard put so baldly in years. When I told her I was ready to walk out, she responded, "I treat my patients very well." Manifestly not true, because I had come in as a patient, and she had just treated me dismissively, repeatedly. There was one correct answer, which was an apology. There was exactly one correct response she could have made when called on her behavior: an apology. Instead she doubled down on her defensiveness, and then told me the problem was that I had come in a few minutes late, and they had not booked a long enough appointment booked my appointment so tightly that my being a few minutes late meant they could not use nitrous. That's inconvenient, but if they'd told me the truth about it in the first place, I'd have been fine with rescheduling. Instead, the doctor, as she basically admitted, had been trying to gaslight me into agreeing to do the root canal without the nitrous for the sake of her schedule. And here's the thing that is shocking, and yet which no person with chronic pain will find surprising: gaslighting a disabled patient into undergoing a substantial treatment without a needed accommodation, when the only reason that patient had come to her was because of the availability of that accommodation, was so normal to her that she could admit to it without embarrassment. Like, obviously, that's what a person in her position should do, right? Because she followed up that admission by repeating, "I treat my patients very well." Holding onto that belief was clearly important to her, which I guess is to her credit, but she had an opportunity to make that true by listening and changing her behavior, by attempting even a little bit, even belatedly, to make the choices she should have made in the first place. It's possible, I guess based on other reviews, that this practice might adequately meet the needs of non-disabled patients. I would urge anyone who has a disability to look elsewhere. read more

If you don't have a lot of time to read: if your tooth has a suspected crack, talk to the endodontist and the dentist about whether the tooth can be saved. If it's deep or severe enough, you may be paying a lot of money for a useless root canal for a tooth which will need to be extracted anyway. This is what happened to me. I had one tooth which caused me a great deal of pain and my dentist noticed a crack and infection in a tooth which has been previously undergone a filling for a cavity (6 months ago). They referred me to Olney Endodontics to discuss my options. The endodontist was nice enough and squeezed me in right away for the first of two root canal procedures. Only after I had paid $1100 and he had started my root canal did he notice the crack. After I went home, I was scheduled to complete my procedure two weeks later. During this time, my friend had told me about how another endodontist had charged for and performed a root canal on a cracked tooth, which the dentist could not save with a crown, so it had to be pulled. So he regrettably had to pay for and experience an uncomfortable root canal for nothing. This motivated me to call to follow up on the severity of my tooth crack. The endodontist explained that if my tooth was crowned, it may be "good for a few years." So I asked how long? And he wouldn't estimate. And I asked if I should pull it, and he said he couldn't tell me, as it was my decision to make. This didn't make sense, as I am not a dental professional, and I'm not knowledgeable enough to make a decision like that. I went to get a second opinion from another dentist (my own dentist was very unhelpful and I will not return to them anymore) and he agreed that the severity of my crack put me in a "gray" area and that I should ask the endodontist again for his best instinct on what would be best for me: finishing the root canal and getting a crown, or extracting it and getting a dental implant. When I called again, the endodontist was very condescending and again, refused to tell me which option was best in his professional opinion. I had to say, YOU'RE the professional, how can I decide if you can't tell me how many years you think a crown would hold before the crack gets severe...? Eventually, he relented and said that patients who have been in similar circumstances have usually said, they wished they just had the extraction and a dental implant. That is what I needed to hear, but I wish he had told me that before I paid over $1000. I decided to get the tooth pulled out. Obviously, I went to an oral surgeon not related to this office or my original dentist. PS. If you had to get a root canal from this office, it would probably be OK in terms of the actual procedure itself. I just don't trust these people and I wouldn't recommend them. I hope you will have more time to research your endodontists if you need one. read more

These people were my angels. I had been in the worst pain of my life for a week. To make a long story short, I had been having pain for 2 months but no dentist I saw could fund anything wrong on xray or exam and chalked it up to TMJ. Turns out I had an almost invisible fracture. Once my tooth visibly abscessed and the root (no pun intended) cause was discovered, the office fit me in right away and it was a Friday. I was absolutely terrified of getting this procedure and all the needles. They really go above and beyond to make you comfortable offering warm blankets and soothing music. It also helps that they offer nitrous oxide as well. Dr Phan did my procedure. She was so kind and explained exactly what was wrong amd every step of the process. The whole office is extremely efficient and my case was no exception. I was totally relaxed and completely comfortable during both sessions. The quality of the worm was great, the follow up instructions very clear. I entirely reccomend! read more

The endodontists are great -- it's the admin staff that is less so. I wasn't given a receipt for my root canal visit, so I had to request one my second visit. I still don't understand why what is standard paperwork anywhere else was unavailable then, and the staff person asked if she could email it to me. She did not, and I had to ask again. She emailed me a Word document that changed to gibberish with encryption and, instead of doing what I asked -- making it a .pdf version -- she insisted on mailing it. So, two weeks after I paid $800, I'm still not able to claim FSA reimbursement because the standard receipt with the procedure code and services rendered are still missing. This is unacceptable and completely unnecessary -- she should have taken the time to print it as requested when I had to ask the first time. Anywhere else, I would not even have had to ask the first time. As a patient, I overheard one of the endodontists discussing one of the admin staff members with one of the hygientists, and how they apparently don't know the status of supplies orders because the staff person who manages things says she has "added it to her list". Maybe this is the same person and printer ink or paper is on "the list". read more

Similar to another reviewer, my experience with the Dr was fine. I only went for a consult, and was unable to get the work done through them because of the fees. I was told the cost of the consult, and paid my insurance deductible. To my surprise, I was later billed for an additional $100. I then received repeated phone calls stating that I owed a balance, to which I responded stating that I paid my deductible, and the insurance would have been responsible for the balance. The woman insisted that I had not satisfied my deductible, and because the insurance company did not pay the full balance, I was responsible for the rest. If you are agreeing to accept insurance, then you agree to the amount that you and the insurance company have set for that service. Charging the customer $100+ in addition to what was paid by the insurance company for a consult is just robbery. I would never want to have any service done from a business that has such unsavory business practices, no matter how nice or thorough the Dr. read more

I went to Dr. Lin on a referral to have four root canals. Went in for the consult and initial procedure where he explained everything along with why it was needed. The follow up a week later was also very well done. Excellent provider as were the kind folks assisting in the procedure and the front office staff. Highly recommend. read more

Dr. Phan and her team were excellent with my 10-year old daughter her took a nasty fall from her bike and fractured two teeth. Two teeth on opposite, lower sides of her mouth! The team did a great job scheduling, discussing insurance options with me and my insurance provider, and certainly made my daughter comfortable. This was huge given the experiences that led up to our Olney visit!! The care and ease they utilize did wonders for our trust levels- an overall great experience. read more

This office required that I pay an $800 copay based on insurance estimate; they received the actual insurance claim which identified a much, much lower copay; they received the insurance check in early September (it's almost November now); and they never gave me my refund of close to $200 due to me. These are bad business practices and the fact that I've had to call multiple times since September (it's almost November now) and still no refund - shameful. read more

They are overcharging me and bill the insurance for the services they didn't do it which cost my an 300 $ of my maximam allowance

I had my first root canal and was referred to this office, I'm glad I was. I hope I don't need a procedure like this again but if I do I'll be going here again and recommend them to anyone. The whole staff is very friendly and helpful and keep in touch after to make sure you're doing alright. read more

I had a root canal yesterday that was 100% pain free. I was squeezed in two days in a row for a consult and then for the procedure. Everything was great from the front desk staff to the staff and Dr's in the back.They called me this morning to see how i was doing and have been nothing but kind through the whole process. They did all the research on what my insurance would cover for me and although dental work is always expensive they were willing to work with me on that. I honestly hope that i don't need further root canals but if I do i will never go anywhere else! read more

This is an impressive operation--superb technical skills, dedication to doing the job right (not quickly), very sophisticated equipment, great patient communication, efficient operation, continuous focus on patient comfort, and great follow-up. The actual root canal was great. The Dr. was very very thorough and cautious. For this, I give Olney Endodontics a 5-star. (I only had the procedure done and the actual crown was done elsewhere.) HOWEVER, when it came to submitting to insurance, customer service, and reimbursing me - forget it. 0 stars. For one, they filed paperwork with the wrong date and never corrected it, which effected my deductible and what my insurance will cover. Plus, it's simply a legal obligation they wouldn't fulfill. When I called and asked them if they would do it on a particular day (since I had already spent a month harassing them and they wouldn't) I was told, "If I have time." A month later and it still hasn't been corrected and resubmitted. The office also charged me for 1) a procedure they did not do (as proved by x-rays) and 2) for another procedure they are not allowed to charge for in conjunction with the root canal (as 2/2 Metlife reps told me). The office also charged me more than my insurance allows them to charge, which means they owe me several hundred dollars since it is "payment upon service". They have never sent me a check. It's been more than two months. The office has also never, ever called me back. Ever. They tell me they have more than once but it's 2015. I have a cell phone and VM. I know if you did or did not call me. I am currently filing an appeal with MetLife and getting supporting documentation (including X-rays) from the Dr. who did the crown that the office did not do the procedure they charged me for. I wish I could give a 5-star rating because the Dr. was very diligent with my mouth, but I don't like me hustled. read more
