Easily the best ER experience I've ever had or seen. Waited less than 10 min to get roomed and was then set upon by at least 4 nurses getting an IV started and hooking me up to the monitor. Dr. Flink was awesome, kept me well informed. Apparently the lab is workways as well, I don't think I had to wait more than 30 min for labs to come back. Walk in with chest pain, walked out less than 2 hours later with a 1000ml of fluids on board and a relatively clean bill of health. Apparently I need to drink more water. Well done THHM, definitely the nicest place I hope I never have to go back to.

I was taken back within 5 minutes, and from start to finish, the entire process was impressively efficient. There was little to no time spent in the waiting room, and it's clear they've done a great job streamlining their procedures. Everyone I encountered--from the nurses and radiology staff to the lab team--was professional, friendly, and compassionate. Communication was excellent, including digital updates and quick lab results, so I always knew what was going on. I was diagnosed, treated, and discharged in about 4 hours. At many other hospitals I've been to outside of Texas, I probably would have still been waiting to be seen. No one wants to end up in the ER, but if you do, this is exactly the kind of care you hope to receive. I know the staff has to deal with a huge load of folks using it as a primary care facility, but something needs to be done about the wait. Is it possible to develop a walk in clinic for those needing primary care, and save the ER for emergencies? Second, I was asked to schedule two tests by my doc after he contacted UR. I had been in a state of distress for weeks, and the earliest they could schedule one of the tests was several weeks away. The earliest for the second was six weeks in the future. That is unacceptable. UR is generating huge sums of money as a non-profit hospital. Where is it going? Probably need to buy a few more machines for radiology.

Two times last night my 9-year-old, who just had her tonsils removed 4 days ago, woke up unable to…read morebreathe. I've never been so afraid in my entire life by the look of terror in her eyes as she gripped me and gasped repeatedly for air. The first time I thought maybe she was just having a panic attack, which she's never had before, but she had the symptoms. I stayed calm and instructed her to practice deep breathing, and after 10-15 minutes we got through it and she was able to go to sleep. But then about an hour later she woke up again doing the same thing. I immediately threw clothes on us both and took the 4 minute drive to the ER at Kell West Regional Hospital. We checked in about 2:20 AM and I let them know what was going on. I had her lie down on a bench and, fortunately, she was able to go back to sleep while we waited. Over 2 1/2 hours later, at 5 AM, she still had not been called back to a room, triaged, or checked on at all. I knew once we did eventually get to a room it would be at least an hour or longer before we'd be seen, and at this point she had woken up and seemed a lot better, so I decided to just go home so we could get some good rest and make an appt with her doctor a few hours later. Had we gotten home and she had another episode, I would have just called 911. At least that way paramedics would make sure she was taken care of in a timely manner. I'm not normally one to publicly complain like this, but I feel it is important to let others know so they don't make the same mistake. We've been to Kell West a few times before and were always treated pretty unkindly, if not downright rudely, and we've never felt we got adequate care. I only went back because it was a short drive and I thought surely we would be assisted in a timely manner based on her condition. This was the final straw for me. I'm sending in a complaint to Texas Health & Human Services, and I refuse to ever step foot in there again. Honestly, I don't even know if their neglect is illegal or not, but it very well should be. You take a child to the ER telling them she literally cannot breathe and they don't even send someone to take a couple minutes to check on her?! Absolutely absurd and inhumane. Thank God she is OK! I prayed over and over the whole time. Her doctor prescribed her a steroid to help the swelling go down and she is finally breathing somewhat normally now. Shame on you, Kell West!!!
