As a formality, I called Mrs.Olson to see if my 7 year old son could drop in to a class while in the area. To my surprise I was told "I have 40 students in a class and don't have the time." I was surprised enough at the response, but also the tone: Very deliberate, flippant, cold and insubordinate. It is a standing courtesy in all TKD schools that other TKD practicioners are extended family, and therefore welcome in the brotherhood/ tenet of TKD: to make a peaceful/ better world. The same holds true for all traditional martial arts schools with bushido spirit. As Americans, we generally uphold and embrace children barring any other philosophy. To reject/ look down on a child in any capacity speaks volumes. Where I was thinking friendships and pen pals would have been made, Mrs.Olson has now devolved on me the duty of writing a review to warn others to look past an image and into the actions and true nature of a woman who has been allowed to operate under a false image fostered from a paper rank fuel delusions of being a "master"(only of collecting dues and passing out rank) to the point it has corrupted what should be her basic instincts as a mother: The welfare of children. "But I've already got 40 I don't have the time"...Woman You're out of your character. You're out of your depth. You've corrupted your purpose and are other than what you were created to be. When animals behave in the same fashion we put them down. Mothers think twice before sending your child here--as they are second to vanity and greed and therefore expendable. read more

Our kids have been involved with Olsons for over 9 years. We have been extremely pleased with them. They have instilled strong core values in our kids and helped build self-confidence in one and self-discipline in the other. The Olsons have always gone out of their way to help our kids and our community including going to their school to support them with talent shows, hosting birthday parties, teaching free self-defense classes, and running a fundraiser for St. Jude's. One other important aspect that Olson's Martial Arts provides is teaching kids/adults what it feels like to earn something. Ranks are not just given to the students, they are earned. For us and our family, this is an important lesson. It's not just anyone who can walk in off the street, come to a few sessions, and move up in rank. I've been at Olson's for about four years now. I started out in taekwondo (had been in TKD for a couple of decades already) and more recently switched to the jiujitsu program to learn something new.
