***Our BLACK FAMILY was HARRASSED and RACIALLY PROFILED *** Sarah was aggressive, dismissive, and unwilling to listen when we explained that the young man was not a minor, as she claimed. Despite his attempt to present valid identification proving he was 21 years old, Sarah refused to believe it, mocked the situation using air quotes about his "real age," and continued to escalate the issue. Once it became clear she could not justify her claim about his age, she abruptly shifted her reasoning, stating that he was not "chaperoning a child" and had to leave. The young man, like the rest of us, was a paying customer. He had purchased both entry and skate rental. There was absolutely no justification for the treatment he received--other than the fact that he is a young Black man. What made this even more painful was the clear contrast in how our white friend, who also had no skates and remained seated at our table, was completely ignored and never harassed by staff. The racial bias and discrimination from Sarah, the security guard, and other staff members were blatant. The overall environment was hostile, disrespectful, and unsafe. We ultimately made the decision to leave as a group, feeling dehumanized and unwelcome. To add further insult, the young man who had paid for entry and skate rentals was treated as if he were not a legitimate customer. The staff, including the girl at the skate rental window, were disrespectful when attempting to return our shoes, even citing minor issues like not "tucking" the laces into the skates. We were only at the facility for about an hour in total, but it was enough time to experience clear racial profiling, harassment, and unprofessional behavior by the staff. They were extremely attentive, helping the little ones to the middle of the floor and helping kids who wrecked get up safely. The Olympic has the finest skating floor of all the rinks in the east. And it is a pleasure to skate on it ! Mac, you are the best ! no other owner bends over backwards to make sure a great time is had by all who enter. I have been skating at the Olympic since 1997 and never have had a bad experience, not even a fall ! Nice older rink that's close to my house, I'm 62 and have been skating since I was 10, very grateful to have a rink this close to home. Other rinks have closed up and sold buildings but this place hung in there. Could use an air purifier to freshen up the place but not a big deal. Only issue is if you go early on weekends you have to dodge all the little kids with skate assist gates. read more

I rented this facility after my granddaughter had a bad experience with another skating rink. We had the entire place to ourselves which insured my granddaughter and her friends could enjoy the rink and learning to skate all by themselves. Several wheelchairs were allowed to go on the rink which led to an incredible experience for some that don't always get a chance to enjoy the wind in their face as they were pushed around the rink. Ear to ear smiles were on all their faces! The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and helpful in assuring they all had a good time. Gigantic rink HOWEVER, constantly calling people out for wearing hoods and hats which is totally UNREASONABLE. very strict about their rules and continue to say the intercom to get off the wall when they clearly have staff skating to tell them. This place is a total joke and 100% do NOT recommend. Having beginners in the middle but have no people to carry the little kids out who need help. For a middle school field trip, we took our students to this skating rink. While on this two hour trip, our students were immediately profiled and very poorly treated. The staff at this place of business yelled in my students' faces, snatched money out of their hands at the snack stand, threw money and change back at them and threw their items at them that they just bought. Multiple teachers and chaperones spoke with the staff about coming to an adult if there was an issue. Regardless, the staff member continued to mistreat the students while on the trip. We also spoke the the manager who we very dismissive to the teachers who brought the concern to him. Multiple teachers and students were very unhappy and disturbed by this field trip. read more

Gotta say, this place hasn't changed much since the 1980s. Might look old, but you will be floored by the amount of fun you have. It's a very fun location dispense night with your kids. They have skates, clothing and other merch for sale. The snack bar (tons of seating) has all the necessities: candy, chips, soda & pretzels at reasonable prices. There's also a small game arcade here too. They do Zumba classes as well as host the H.A.R.D. (Harrisburg Area Roller Derby), which is a women's flat track association. Had another birthday party here this weekend and I have to say it's really one of the best options for a kid birthday around. This time I just bought the pizza soda ice cream package and that was definitely the way to go. It was much easier than last time when I gave people snack bar "credits" and the snack bar was still available for those who wanted to purchase additional snacks. The staff is friendly - for the most part. The snack bar girl seemed annoyed again. Maybe it's her demeanor or maybe she doesn't like kids who knows. She wasn't horrible just seemed annoyed lol. She was fine with me it was just an observation with her and the kids. I just love how organized and easy this party venue is. The kids have a blast skating too. I hope the kids always choose this venue for a party but it takes a ton of stress off of me! read more

This is a very cute place and the facility is very nostalgic, very family oriented with great prices-- HOWEVER I was extremely concerned with their lack of health and safety. Hardly anyone was wearing a mask and following Pennsylvania's COVID state mandates. Kids and adults alike were skating maskless, shouting and spraying their aerosols everywhere. Even staff who had masks wore them on their chin and were constantly pulling them down to shout at visitors, thus spraying particles. Entire birthday parties were congregated maskless. It was very disturbing and unsafe. This would be a great place if they enforced Pennsylvania's state law of wearing masks indoors, very sad as we wanted to support local businesses... read more

Skating rink that has been here since the 70s. Cheap fun, especially in the winter, but bring your own skates. Free admission. Their skates REEK. They are not sprayed after use and have no brakes. The wheels are worn, wobbly and unleveled. Avoid renting their rolling shoes of death! On the upside, A family of 6 with no skates can skate off their cabin fever for $15 bucks, which includes drinks, admission and skate rental. If you bring your own skates, it's free to enter. Over all, for what it is, it's clean, inexpensive and the music system is decent. Good place to shake off cabin fever. read more

After a 20 year hiatus from skating, my fiancée and I went to Olympic to check the place out and get a feel for the environment. I was pleasantly surprised to see the size and condition of the floor. It's a huge track that's well maintained. After speaking with Mac (owner) I decided to order a new set of speed skates. The transaction couldn't have been easier. Ordered on a Monday and was skating on them the following Thursday. Since then, I've ordered another set of speed skates for myself, as well as a set of quads for my fiancée. Again, super easy and friendly transaction. And the prices are more than reasonable in the pro shop, especially given the excellent service they provide. As 40 something's, we found Thursday nights to be great for our age group since that session has an old school vibe to it (which we love). We ended up meeting a bunch of cool people and now it's part of our weekly routine. ALL of the staff thus far have been friendly, personable and easy to deal with. We now spend quite a bit of time here each week. Skating is a passion I've had for 30+ years. Every time I hear the buzzer and walk through the front door it feels like home :) read more

Went here yesterday with a group. Nobody was wearing masks, rude staff (a bunch of teenagers) who clearly don't know what they're doing. The only food they had ready was nachos; the cheese was OK, chips were way to salty and I ended up with a stomachache afterward. And bad music. They're only open for 2 hours every day. I would LOVE to give a good review to a local business hustling to bring "old time" fun to this new era through things like roller skating. However, this place is just the pits. It's dingy, smelly, and very poorly cleaned. Major issues when you think about the amount of people renting equipment to skate. It's also poorly managed. My children have been cheated out of change/cash several times now, and told stories that their friends were cheated too. Awful, but bad stuff happens. When we reported the issue, the owner Mack McArthur dodged our communication bringing the issue up for weeks. When I contacted him again this evening, he denied all responsibility, made up excuses, lied about reviewing video tapes and most importantly blamed everyone else. Just embarrassing. It's not about the 10-20bucks in cash, it's the principle. Stay away. If you are lucky enough not to get hurt or ringworm, you will still have contributed to a business owner that should be put down. read more

Tried to take our 5 year old to the learn to skate program. It's so poorly run, he was almost entirely ignored by any adult until his father decided we had to go out on the floor. At that point I got more of a lesson than he did! The instructor suddenly realized he existed and was in her class when she saw parents on the floor! I asked to make sure he hadn't missed the preliminary lessons and should he wait until a new session and was assured that was not the case. As all the kids were heading off the rink to wait for the main session she became the ultimate teacher! Suddenly she was encouraging and giving the child tips! I understand we didnt pay for a private lesson but dont ignore the child until the very end of your class then try to act like you care about him learning. read more

I come here every Friday with friends to skate. They play new, popular music and have good snack options at the snack bar. They have a small variety of arcade games that give tickets that are hard to earn, but if you get some, there's a side room that you can buy cheap little toys for ten or so tickets. You either rent or bring your own skates and in the side room they also sell a few brands of skates. Inexpensive get-in, but once you go out the door you can't come in without paying again. Birthday parties are hosted, but kind of expensive. They have races, the chicken dance, and a dice game about once an hour. The place has a funny smell, but the staff are polite. Friday's they have from 11-12pm a dance hour where you dance without skates. Some kids with bad reputations hang around outside smoking. read more

I took my little sister roller skating tonight and I could not be more upset with the experience. My boyfriend & I also paid to go skating, yet almost immediately changed our minds. The rink was so crowded with unthoughtful, unsupervised children who had no problem knocking you down if you "were in their way". My sister was knocked down and kicked in the head and yelled at by a 15 year old (she is 9). When we decided to turn our skates in and merely supervise my sister, we were continually harassed by 'security'. Although we explained we were supervising my sister multiple times, they would continually try to make us leave while patronizing us. The refs and security personnel were rude and left the impression that they were overwhelmed by such a large crowd. Why not create a limit of how many people are allowed to enter? I can imagine there has to be some sort of fire code that was broken tonight. I'm sad because I used to love this place so much when I was my sister's age. It's rare for me to have a bad enough time to actually write a bad review, but this visit really left a sour taste in my mouth. The rink has taken a very negative turn since I had been there last. I have been a long time fan of Mt. Gretna Roller Rink and decided to take mt 5 yr old daughter to the Olympic for a change. At 5 she is a pretty good skater but obviously not very speedy due to her age. It was crowded with young and immature kids that must have had all their parents just drop them off. The "refs" also had no control over any of it. The employess seemed rude and didnt even want to answer simple question when I had inquired about purchasing a $500 pair of skates! I will definately continue to go to Mt. Gretna roller rink where we have never had any issues and everyone is nice, ploite, and helpful! I would NOT recommend this roller rink for anyone with kids under 12! read more
