YES! Favourite cafe. Ever. The staff and owner are wonderful, knowledgable, friendly and funny people who will answer all of your questions and make your day. The atmosphere is modern and industrial while being warm, inviting, cozy and flowing. The tables on rails are cool. The back patio is cute, too. Even the bathrooms will have you reading the story of Omar. Everything here just works perfectly. We brought the whole family along, and everyone was blown away. The breakfasts and brekkie sangas are priced really well for Melbourne, and are BETTER than most of those other fancy pants places anyway. The pastries at the till are yummy, too. They aren't big on wanky latte art either, just great tasting and best of the best high-quality coffee with no cheap gimmicks. This place has tables on rails. This sounds awkward, which it is a little, but the coolness is overwhelming. Just slots into the warehouse-y decor perfectly (pun intended). There is obviously a story to the name. You can look it up, or when you go it's printed on a poster in the bathrooms (the latter is a more interesting way to find out). They roast their own coffee on premises. You can watch the process unfold before your eyes, which is very cool. It's good coffee too. Being a creature of habit, I usually go for the smashed avocado (avocado violence!). However, my dining partners have had great success with the flat breads and pastries. I also love the Omar crew. They are very much into and in contact with their coffee - not only that, they really welcome questions and are prepared to dig into the detail. People that love their craft and love sharing it. Not only that, Omar is a (pleasantly) off the well-worn tracks of Melbourne, nestled in the cute-but-for-the-Nepean-highway Gardenvale village. Omar is also known for being open Christmas Morning. Omar is one of those places that makes you want to shout from the excitement of discovering a coffee utopia in the sleepy suburb of Gardenvale. Omar's specialty is coffee and they do it extraordinarily well. They roast their own coffee beans onsite and you can also purchase beans to use at home, along with other implements if you're uber serious about your coffee. They also offer simple brunches and lunches. The couple of times I have had brunch there, I've opted for the smashed avocado sourdough toast and the buffalo mozzarella, tomato and basil sourdough toast. Both simple dishes, but done rather well. When you book an Airbnb in the 'burbs on a visit to Melbourne, you cross your fingers and hope that you'll be around the corner from a good coffee place (all Melbourne suburbs should fill this requirement, tbh, and yet). You could only dream of a good coffee place as good as Omar's. Most of our Omarring involved the boys toddling down each morning to grab takeaways for the fam, but one morning we did dedicate to dining in for brunch. It's bustling busy at almost all times of the day, and the all day breakfast menu manages to be simple but cater to all at the same time. Magic. The magic of a small kitchen and a creative chef! I had the caprese and the bf had the mushrooms and I'm just grateful they both came with two slices of toast because it meant we actually split both meals right down the middle, otherwise I might have had a hissy fit because I refused to be forced to choose between them. The staff at Omar's are all charmers, most importantly the dude who looked after us when we dined in because he recommended we try a flat white with oat milk instead of soy, his shout in case we weren't fans. My problem now is that not many coffee shops have oat milk, or it's all I would order now. I guess I'll just have to sign up to a monthly Omar subscription and get some oat milk at home... read more

Brilliant, sublime, fantastic, terrific, tremendous and outrageous are just some very reasonable ways to describe the coffee that Omar's consistently produces. Their food is delicious and whether you occupancy your meal with a pour over, latte, cold brew or any other supreme beverage your taste buds will be left craving more. But maybe most impressively is the impeccable service that they provide, this is optimised by the fact they even opened Christmas Day for a couple of hours to give their regulars their much needed coffee fix! Visiting Omar proved to be, dare I say it, a...wait for it... marvellous experience. In all seriousness this place knows its coffee. A lovely coffee date for myself and two others provided once of my best ever coffee moments. We ordered the three different pour over blends, and after the ten minute wait for preparation wasn't it worth it! They were smooth and rich in flavour, exactly matching the descriptions a accompanying information sheet suggested. The waiter to was extremely friendly and helpful, which added to the good times. The cafe itself is beautifully set out. Industrial sized bags of green beans are neatly stored all over the place, and with the roasting system in plain sight, you know you're entering a place the specialises in coffee. That's not the only thing they specialise in though. There is plenty of delicious pastries available, and I've been told many a time about the quality of the donuts - which are delivered periodically and snapped up in no time. A breakfast/lunch menu runs too, with simple and affordable options for everyone. read more

I ventured out this morning for brunch at Omar's and was pleased I did. It was warm and inviting with a warehouse feel. The tables are set on miniature tracks and there is a huge coffee roaster off to one side but the cafe is quite small and also quite cluttered with sacks of coffee beans, an old espresso machine, ladders and other bits and pieces lying around which gives off a cosy ambiance. Omar's boasts of great coffee and it certainly lives up to its name. Two cappuccinos later and still wanting more... My friend and I tried two different variations of the flat bread. One was the classic ham, cheese and smashed avocado, (very tasty!) the other was olives, mozzarella, avocado, tomato and red onion (quite appetising.) We also had a Turkish-type roll filled with red onion, avocado, tomato and smoked bacon which was divine!! One thing is for certain, the food and produce here is very fresh and wholesome. The place is setup in a really cool way, the locals love it and they love their locals. Because it's a buzzing joint, don't expect too friendly or personalised service from a neighbourhood cafe although I did hear some locals or loyals called by their names. Or was it because even though I live locally and it was my first time there I was given the hipster aloofness treatment? Yes well, they'd better have damn good coffee and food to keep that business running... Down to the nitty gritty. Ok I did have porridge with my coffee and it was alright, I don't think they were too enthusiastic when I ordered that but hey I really felt like something soothing and healthy that morning. The coffee shall I say, was single origin and done well (if you're reading thus review for the first time I ALWAYS order full cream full fat extra dollop type of milk with my coffee, none of that silly skimmed low fat this and that), rich and caramelly however I did think I wouldn't be coming back here again probably because I had heard so many people raving about it and had high expectations which fell short. A lot short. Perhaps start by loosing the 'tude guys, you might get to keep more customers. read more

Omar is everything you expect and desire from a cafe. The fitout is gorgeous, the coffee is totally acceptable (yeah, it won't justify travelling out there if you're not nearby, but nonetheless good) and the food is, in a word, delightful. Like the reviewer below me, my husband and I were enthralled by the system that sees tables mounted onto a track so that they can be shunted up and down the cafe, indoors and out, creating tables for anything from two to... well, I guess the top end is limited only by the space. Perhaps the best part of all however, is the accuracy of the menu. That might seem odd, but when you're allergic to something the last thing you need is that little thing smuggled into the dish somewhere. A very unusual cafe I must admit but in a very good way I love how they roast all there beans on site for you to see its quite interesting to see how they do everything, it definitely takes your mind off waiting for your coffee. They have a great range of food from the breakfast right thru till dinner, This time I had the poached eggs on toast with side of bacon it was lipsmackingly nice & the coffee was really good now I know what all the rage is about. It's great for people that want to pick up somthing on the way to work with it opening at 6.30am there's not many other Cafes open at that time so it will come in very handy. read more

If you want coffee in the southeast suburbs, go here. First off, the coffee is consistently great. They do all the traditional teas and coffees (lattes, espressos, etc), but also have really interesting drinks like the clever dripper. This is coffee like you've never has it before - with the texture like tea. Omar roasts their own beans so it's a great place to buy fresh and perfectly roasted beans for home. The food is also very good - the menu is interesting and delivers meals as tasty as they appear on paper. Nothing beats the staff here. We've spent several hours with staff members - especially Hamish - discussing which coffee is best for which contraption and many other coffee related things. The staff knows their coffee and coffee machines and knew which beans to suggest for an aeropress vs. a Breville machine or a latte vs. an espresso. Lastly, the look of the shop is fantastic. Very industrial with the tables on runners and exposed pipes. The only reason I hesitated putting up this review is that I'm afraid too many people will find out about Omar's and we'll never be able to get a table again! read more

Wow. There is much deliciousness and damn good coffee to be had in the burbs. Omar far exceeded my expectations. Lip smacking coffee - sourced, roasted, lovingly prepared espresso or filter. The menu is simple and hit the spot - the two dishes we had were just incredible. The mushroom cheese melt on toast, balsamic glaze & fontina cheese against the well sautéed mushrooms was tasty as hell. And the pork belly roll had a slaw with an inspired accent of mint leaves that lifted it to new heights. I highly recommend these delicious dishes. A beautiful space as well with lots of wood and exposed brick - high beams and roof sun windows let lots of natural light in. Service was warm and friendly, I felt welcome and loved up. This foray has inspired me to leave my zone 1 hood & venture to the burbs to find more of these "hidden" gems. I will be back Omar you've won me at first sip! read more

I'd heard about this place for quite some time, but never had the opportunity to go until recently. Omar straddles the divide of a small and quiet patch of Gardenvale, and the super busy Neapean highway. Definitely a local's hangout, Omar does all their own roasting on site, and you can see the machinery as you walk in. there's no traditional breakfast in the form of "big breakfasts" or x, y and z eggs on toast, but they do offer Cheesy melts which are pretty awesome. As you would have guessed, the Coffee is pretty great, and there's usually a few selections on offer. Quite spacious inside, but it does have a tendency to become super packed, busy and noisy. read more

Arrived for a late lunch and was seated straight away. And down the end so we could fit the pram in . Ordered a long black and hubby a flat white. Great coffee. Full of flavour and love how hey gave me hot water to add myself. Ordered smash avo with salmon and tuna melt. Both really goods defiantly glad I added the salmon it all worked really well. One of the best kept secrets in the inner eastern suburbs. So much so I am hesitant to write a growing review. I guess its for the greater good. Located just off a major arterial it is easily accessible. The guys down there do a superb job. The service is spot on. As a regular, they always remember my preferred brew. The guys are affable and always happy to have a laugh - Movember is evidence of that. The seating is unique in that the tables are on rails so that you can slide more that one table together if the group is a little larger or slide them apart if you are drinking solo. The food is fresh and spectacular. The bircher is a personal favourite. I have never been disappointed with what I have ordered. I don't drink coffee - took my parents here because they love coffee. Their comments were: really nice and mild, coffee doesn't taste burnt. They enjoyed it a lot. Our family ordered the salmon roll, braised beans, fattoush and royal lettuce salad. Everyone actually walked away having liked their food - a rare occurrence for us! I have been here twice before and it was good. Today, I went with 2 friends and I ordered an ice coffee, my friend ordered an ice coffee and my other friend ordered a cafe latte in a take away cup. The rude waiter said "we don't serve coffee to have here in take away cups." So my friend said "ok I'll have it take away then." And the waiter went inside. He comes back 5 minutes later - with a latte in a cup in one hand and a take away coffee cup in the other - not one word of a lie. We were all gob smacked. I went inside to tell him that we need the latte in a take away container and he said "sorry we don't serve coffee to have here in take away cups, the boss said." I said well is the boss here? He said no. I said ok whatever, we are leaving then. And never to be back. What strikes us as absolutely ridiculous is they serve take away coffee all day. Omar, do you serve all your take away customers in glassware and make them pour their own coffee into a take away cup? What the heck kind of joke is this? You need to have a talk to that waiter because I don't believe for one second the boss made a rule like that. And if he did........ Id be even more speechless! read more

Coffee pleasant but between the loud speaker right above my head, the crying toddler (not his fault) completely ignored by his mum who was on her phone the whole time, and the dismissive staff I obviously went on a bad morning. Not bad for a quick coffee stop. They burnt my soy milk - bit disappointing. Not the best coffee I have ever had but not the actual worst. My latte had to go but my boyfriend said his regular latte was nice. Delicious pastries saved the day! Great atmosphere, warm and inviting. A little cramped as it was super busy. The service wasn't amazing - they weren't rude but as a local place I was expecting them to be quiet friendly. Probably won't stop here again but never say never! read more
