Bruschetta and a Leffe Rouge beer.
    Jason K.

My wife and I were on a ten day trip to Italy and we wanted to slip in a place and grab a beer and some wi-fi. This place had both. I ordered a beer and they brought over a free appetizer with bread and tomatoes and olive oil. So good. As an aside, the olive oil in Italy is flippin' amazing! I had a second beer and we relaxed some more before another 10 miles of walking around. The service was awesome and a cool bar!

A cute and small ristorante in Trastevere. I wanted to eat authentic Italian, and pasta they served here definitely satisfied me. I had Bucatini with tomato sauce with a glass of Sauvignon Blanc. It was cooked to al dente which I love, and the sauce was delicious. Our male server was very talkative in a pleasant way; I guess it's an Italian way to entertain guests, I'm not sure. It was funny enough to make me laugh. Everyone seemed so nice. The portion of food was perfect as well. I do not like a huge, American portion that I have to either take it to-go or waste. I was able to enjoy the meals here. Only thing I was questioning about was Caprese. I wasn't crazy about the presentation that was hideous, and the taste was meh. I had to take one star away from the perfection. However, I was happy with my pasta and wine. I will be back, and will try their desserts next time. Grazie for the great meal and service. 4 Stars.

Bars in Italy are a different kinda vibe. It's tough to differentiate between them and restaurants/cafes cause well, there's usually not much of a difference between them. Ombre Rosse was one place on our trip though that stood out as a more Americanized bar vibe. Maybe it's because of the awesome music they played or the fact that the staff was super lively and fun? I can't quite place why we had such a good time here, but we definitely ended up ordering way more Aperol Spritzes than any other watering hole of our entire Italian excursion. They give you complimentary brushetta if you're drinking in the bar area, and it's hands down the best free food item I've ever had in my entire life! If you're in the Trestevere area, Ombre Rosse is absolutely a must stop.

Beautiful place in the tras tevere. So many cafes and restaurants and gelaterua place but this one has the best price for the "aperitivo". We got the aperol spritz and the tiramisu at the end. I think they got THE BEST Tiramisu in all the city that I've ever been for the last 20 days in the northern Italy. So make sure you get that when you're here!!. Divertimento!

Bartender Anna is so fast only this photo of her was not blurry!

Surprisingly authentic Trastevere hang-out Anna, the bartender last night, is perhaps the best bartender we've encountered... as in ever. Efficient, attentive, handling many customers, and kind and generous. We sat at the bar - so saw her at work. In fact, my first photos of her are blurred - that's how fast she moves. And she gave us a few extras - amaro and biscottini. Thank you, Anna! and the Pinsa we had (never heard of that - kind of a light flat bread) with mozzarella DOC, pomodorini (small tomatoes) & valeriana was perfect for us. We've been to Ombre Rosse many times in the past and always find it a bit of a haven from the hustle - and hustling - of Trastevere; yet it has a lively atmosphere. Often good music too. Great vibe.

Only place in Rome we got free snacks (might've been happy hour special). Service was great as well

    Piña colada-- AMAZING!

Love the vibe of this place! We came here to have a couple of drinks after a nice dinner and we were really impressed with the drinks. My niece had a piña colada and I was fortunate enough to steal a sip and it was honestly the best I've ever tasted. It wasn't overly sweet and didn't taste like a pre-made mixture (whether it was or not, I'm not sure). I had a mojito to drink which wasn't the best I've ever had but it also didn't disappoint--they definitely don't cheap out on the portions of alcohol here that's for sure. I also had a tiramisu which tasted amazing. It wasn't my favourite consistency (a bit on the watery side) but the taste was on point I'm loving the patio life in Rome and wish I could honestly stay here for another week. But anyways, I'd come back here again and I'd recommend it to others!

I stopped by midday for some drinks and the server was so friendly! I didnt order food so I can't say much about that but the aperol spritz and negroni were lovely on today's hot summer day! The kind service was such a bonus and really made me feel comfortable, something I found difficult to feel as a tourist in Rome!

The edamame we had was soft and boiled/spiced to perfection. Originally we were just going to get a roll and a bowl but after trying the food we immediately got another roll. The staff was a whole new level of mind blowing. To start the waiter made us feel exactly where we belonged (even though we were a little underdressed for a classier restaurant). You could've just sat there and watched the bar tender all night, she looked like she was a professional I wouldn't want anyone else making me drinks. The atmosphere of the whole bar embodied a classic American jazz bar, even the other people and tables we were by were friendly and really added to the whole experience. Was very well worth the price and couldn't recommend any other restaurant.

A jazz club for American tourists…read more Okay, there was one Australian lady and a few Chinese. Everyone else was American. Prices are sky-high because this is a soak the tourist situation. Alexanderplatz which is the premiere jazz club in Rome charges $18 euros for a month membership - no cover after that - and $12 per drink. So once you have paid your monthly cover charge, you can hear all the jazz you want for free - or if need be for $12 euros a drink At Alexanderplatz, the performances are legendary with some of the most innovative and technically amazing musicians in Rome. We dropped over $150 euros at Gregory's. We got a perfectly reasonable yeoman guitarist. But nothing like the artistic lions that routinely perform over at Alexanderplatz. Now to be fair, we had dinner at Gregory's and we never eat at Alexanderplatz. The standard "sushi dinner" was perfectly reasonable yeoman sushi. There was so little of it that we both had to order a la carte dishes afterwards. The extra extras seriously expanded the final tab. * * * One argument in Gregory's favor: their bar is extraordinary. The bar at Alexanderplatz is mediocre. Gregory's charges top dollar for its bar offerings, but what they mix and what is in their bottles is worth every single euro they ask for. I would be perfectly happy to just go to the bar, and order a few premium beverages. I would hear my wallet cry. But I would know that I was drinking supremely well in return for my investment. Fortunately, the bar is downstairs from the club. I would not have to put up with the shenanigans in the club. * * * The problem with the club is the crowd. At most, one third of the customers are actually there to listen to jazz. The room is filled with tourists taking selfies. There are also hot-daters playing snuggle-buns. Many of them will leave mid-set so they can go back to the hotel. Gregory's is less about the music and more about selling happy memories of Rome. * * * Alexanderplatz gets a mostly Italian crowd. You are looking as musicians, music critics, academics, and all purpose artsy types - as well as normal Italian human beings who just want to hear fine music. The music is taken very very seriously. Yeah, there are usually two or three tables with good time Charlies who are doing the phone recording, party hearty thing. But this is 8% of the audience at Alexanderplatz as opposed to 70% of the audience at Gregory's. To be fair to the crowd at Gregory's, the music at Alexanderplatz is simply better. The jazz at Alexanderplatz is capable of transfixing even philistines with tin ears. Gregory's jazz doesn't put that much on the table. But the crowd at Alexanderplatz sets me up for listening to mystic, complex music with the highest level of attention and aesthetic receptiveness. The crowd at Gregory's just gets me irritated. * * * If you are in Rome with a hot date, go to Gregory's. Be prepared to shell out the bucks. * * * If you are in Rome with someone who can truly appreciate once-in-a-lifetime musical experiences, take them to Alexanderplatz. After you talk about the music for half an hour after the concert, You can still go back to the hotel. Just figure that the hotel will be the second best part of the night.

From the entrance you walk down a staircase lined with posters for various cover bands like Bob Dylan and the Beatles. The space downstairs is large but broken into 4 or 5 rooms. The night we were in an Italian blues band was playing and it seemed like everyone seated had gotten there early enough for spots. It's hard to see the band from the side rooms so we stood in front of the bar. This place got packed and if we had moved we would have definitely lost our spot. Drinks are on the pricey side and it got super hot with all the people but this was a great time. Everyone was having lots of fun and it gives you a glimpse into an underground Italian live music venue!

Stones cover band night, Jimi Hendrix cover night, and others. I would highly suggest a visit to this underground spot. A word to the wise, if you want a place to sit/a table, arrive early. One of my three favorite jazz clubs in the world…read more Alexanderplatz is extremely eclectic in the styles of jazz it programs. But the Italian jazz scene is one of the best in Europe. There are a lot of classically trained musicians who have become superlative jazz artists. Alexanderplatz programs everything from traditional cocktail lounge swing to post-free-jazz abrasive to experimental European style electronic new age/jazz complex fusion. The third style is one we don't have much of in the U.S. We have the first two styles plus Marsalis family style neobop plus Brooklyn non-genre. Every session we have heard has been absolutely positively superlative. They break new frontiers on the innovative stuff and demonstrate superlative craftsmanship on the traditional stuff. Most other jazz clubs have good nights and bad nights. You can run into mediocre student wannabes and washed up old f**ts. None of those D-listers will show up on the stage at Alexanderplatz. * * * Another plus for Alexanderplatz: The room is extremely atmospheric. You go down a winding and almost-dangerous staircase into a basement. The basement is brightly colored and has jazz paraphernalia everywhere. It also has a balcony and archways which is not typical basement stuff. It makes the scene totally magical when you are down there. * * * The bar is the only weak point of this otherwise fantastic club. There is a very limited selection. The bottles are not always that great. Worse. You pay at the end. Everyone shows up in a huge traffic jam at the bar to pay with only one cashier taking money. The line runs long. It is a jazz club so it runs late. Whether or not you will make your bus is an open and interesting question. My tip is to pay right after you get your drink. You leave when the music is over and everything is fine. * * * But musically - this place is pure awesomeness on a stick. If you like any kind of jazz, and are willing to hear jazz in all of its forms, you really need to make a point to come here. If you like one and only one kind of jazz only, Pretest the artists before you book. But I would still say come anyway. The artists of your "not-my-genre" may get you to change your mind.
