I had an incredible stay here and got a good deal on pricing since it was spring and more off season. Everything about this hotel was unforgettable and it is probably my favorite hotel stay ever. The food was amazing. Breakfast was included and everything was cooked in house with really delicious and unique options like rosemary potatoes, high quality yogurt, and homemade jams. It all felt very homemade - because it was! The dining room was adorable and matched the rest of the property, which is filled with antiques. There are antiques everywhere in the hallways and the rooms carry that same vintage feel, which makes it really fun just to walk around and explore. There is also a library room with a pool table that feels like the cutest vintage lounge space. The pool area was amazing with a large hot tub, a nice pool, and a sauna. At night they have fire pits and complimentary s'mores packs so you can go outside and roast marshmallows. There are also games to borrow, a bar, river access, and so much more. Do yourself a big favor and skip the more expensive, crowded places in town and stay in this lovely gem right outside town along the River. Beds are super comfy, decor is adorable, there's Vermont coffee and filtered water available all day long and staff is sweet and kind. Rooms on the River side are quiet with pretty, tranquil views and sliders that are screened and allow the fresh Vermont air to lull you to sleep. The on-site restaurant 506 Bistro serves up pretty decent fare (including Maine mussels and fries for a mere $18) and you can sit at the bar and chat with other guests while Ryan or David provide you with stellar service. The clientele here has a nice, friendly vibe that isn't so abundant at some other hotels in town. HIGHLY recommend!! read more

I stayed at On the River Inn when I ran the Covered Bridges Half Marathon in Woodstock on June 7, 2026, and had a great stay! The room was large and comfortable and had all the amenities I could want. Ditto the inn's amenities, from the indoor pool to the fitness center to the restaurant. The inn's ambiance is also wonderful, filled with all manner of unique antiques and collectibles. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful, including after the race when I asked if there was somewhere to change clothes (since late checkout was not available) and they also told me to use the hot tub if I wanted. Second time back,came with the entire family this time,forgot how pretty and friendly the place is.Had dinner last night,they always have a few specials to the menu,scallops appetizers has delicious ,I had a veal tomahawk chop,it was cooked to perfection,we also had salmon ,veal shank,burger and pasta ,need I say there were no leftovers. 1 star -- Rude, dishonest, and the most unprofessional hotel we encountered all week This was our fourth hotel in four nights while traveling with our dog--and the only one where we had any issues. Something doesn't add up. We made it crystal clear when booking and again at check-in that we had a dog and needed a pet-friendly room. The front desk confirmed it. Turns out? They put us in a non-pet-friendly room--their mistake, not ours--and then slapped us with a $100 per night fee for having a dog in it. On top of that, we specifically asked if it was okay to leave the dog in the room for a short time. We were told yes. But while we were out, we got a call lecturing us for doing exactly what we had already cleared with the staff. When we tried to resolve the situation, the manager and staff were rude, dismissive, and completely unwilling to take responsibility. Not even a hint of an apology. We've stayed at three other hotels this week with zero problems. The way we were treated here was completely unacceptable. Avoid this place at all costs--especially if you travel with pets or expect to be treated with basic respect. read more

Overall, we enjoyed our stay at On The River Inn, however I think our expectations were a little high because of the beautiful pictures and the fact that although we usually use points for hotels, we paid out of pocket for our stay. There are adorable little touches at the inn (the dining room especially is hands down gorgeous) however we paid extra for a pond view, agreeing to a double room not knowing it was actually two rooms, and not just two beds. I would say all of the rooms have very pretty views as they all point in the same direction, so I don't know that choosing a specific view matters much, but we didn't mind the extra smaller room since it had a couple very nice easy chairs and we didn't have to ask for more towels. The larger room also had a very cozy blanket we appreciated. The breakfast was lovely (the baked apples especially), however dinner isn't offered certain nights, so stopping by the Farmers Market (1 min drive away) before you check in will ensure success since there are very few local options on the nights the dining room is closed. The fridge we had was fairly large and we definitely appreciated having the microwave, for just in case meals. I expected Woodstock to be a little more robust, but it's a cute little town with several small businesses. Downloading the Park Mobile app will help you out with parking ($1/hr) and there's a local general store that can work in a pinch for some things you'd find at a CVS. All in all we really enjoyed our stay, but definitely go into your visit knowing it's a rural area, and plan and research accordingly. read more

Just back from a 3 night stay at 506 On the River Inn. All in all, a great inn with beautiful grounds, spacious rooms, and lovely views. We did experience some frustrations though. The on site restaurant and bar were closed one of the three nights and booked to capacity another night leaving us with zero dining options. Only three restaurants are open Mondays in all of Woodstock, and all were booked solid. The hostess recommended we try a gas station or grocery store. We couldn't even order take out. Unfortunately the inn doesn't prioritize hotel guests for dinner reservations and doesn't let guests know about the challenges with Monday dining options. The restaurant was full with customers that weren't hotel guests and the parking lot was also full with no parking available. Positive notes, breakfast was very good and included. The morning staff was great and worked hard to make sure guests were happy. Kudos to both ladies. The baked goods were delicious as were the potatoes, eggs, and French toast with fresh maple syrup. There's a nice pool table and a decent game room. The nightly fire pit was also a plus. All in all, I would recommended this inn but I don't think we'd return until they're able to offer all the amenities they promote on their site. Staffing is an issue everywhere so it's understandable but I do think guests should be advised beforehand to avoid disappointment particularly given the fact that we're still paying full rates without daily housekeeping and lack of restaurant/bar service. read more

My wife and I stayed here for a couple of nights in April to celebrate her birthday. I found the place on booking.com and it looked like a good place to stay. The setting is very cool. They have a pond (we were in the pond room) which was just off our room and the river it about 60 yards behind the hotel. The area between the hotel and the river has chairs and picnic tables which add to the ambiance outside. The hotel itself if full of antiques which gives it a very unique feel. With everything they have you don't get the corporate hotel feel, but more of an inn vibe. The complementary breakfast was solid. They had a good selection of hot and cold foods available and they appeared to keep refreshing it frequently so it stayed fresh. They also offer a restaurant for dinner. We ha dessert one of the nights and the cream brûlée and the blueberry crisp were good. My only criticism was the beds. For both my wife and I they were much too firm and the pillows were too thick. Overall we really liked the place, but the beds would probably keep us from returning. read more

Wanted something special and stay close to our B&B (walking distance preferably to Rt 4 (Central St.) like we've been doing, or a 15-minute car ride away) but there were zilch openings for the major hotspots. Luckily we were set with 506 Inn on The River- with its namesake Restaurant. The Inn's Lobby Area is jazzed up nicely with lots of natural materials, "Antique" suitcases, old typewriters and Holiday pieces- adding a tasteful country-chic style. What a view when you first enter their Restaurant! Large, country-modern Kitchen adjacent to the old-fashioned Bar Area on the left. Sizable, open-concept space with at least 2 huge plush sectionals to lounge in- right in the middle of 506. Communal Dinner tables, smaller tables on the perimeter and more seating further back. My 'Paloma' Grapefruit Cocktail was serious (even with all that ice), while hubby had a Manhattan. Mr Bartender by the way- can whip up drinks based on personal tastes, too. Ditched the Maple-Dijon Vinaigrette in my Salad for Balsamic & Olive O...Thank you, Gretchen! Menu is simple and attached to clipboards. Hubby raved about the Short Rib with Fingerling Potatoes and Haricots Vert. I truly enjoyed the taste of my Fusilli with Porcini Mushrooms, but there was only one ill-cut Porcini and 3 Enokis...really??? Turns out, someone else made the same complaint about the dish....506- PLEASE ADD MORE PORCINI to your Fusilli dish!!! Dessert wasn't anything spectacular- except for hubby's tasty Apple-Maple Crisp. My 'Flourless Chocolate Cake' tasted good- but was dense as heck. I liked we weren't rushed out by our server and was also digging the vibe here- and if you want to impress someone or for a casual catch-up, this is the place to do it. 506 is the ideal spot to class it up without being buttoned up. Except the nice pool and a sauna that we did not try..... Everything is average - the rooms (the beds are okay, the view on the pond is fine, but the carpet is old and really disgusting.) Our room smelled like stale cigarette smoking and we were too tired to complain and fight for another room, the breakfast buffet (beware guests from Europe: you will be disappointed - this is America, plastic cups for coffee; average eggs and potatoes, even though the homemade pastries looked okay) and the hotel itself. It looked like any allegedly " better " hotel in New England - nothing special. They did have a nice library with a pool table but that was it. Most people stay at the bar anyway and Americans generally don't seem to care for as long as they can drink alcohol and be in ice cold AC'd rooms for the whole summer. read more

The very long wait for food and for drinks is not worth the quality of food. Multiple visits here have been consistent in this manor. Two separate occasions the food was taking an incredibly long time to come out, so our party was offered a round of drinks on the house, but the drinks never came. Our appetizers didn't even show up until the same time some of the food came out. I ordered the crostini appetizer, and was only brought out crostini bread but none of the other components of the $15 appetizer made it to the table. In addition, despite reservations, you may not have seating available when you arrive. read more

I decided to organize a Christmas getaway for my husband who's had a tough year. We wanted a place in Vermont that'd offer Christmas dinner, king-sized beds, and a bar so we could enjoy a cocktail or two. The internet led me to Woodstock and eventually to the 506 On the River Inn. The prices were comparable to other inns, but I liked the look of this place. They have dog friendly rooms as well which is great for us, although we did choose to leave our girl at home. We loved everything. The grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are updated and comfortable, and the amenities are awesome. After a filing Christmas dinner and several rounds of drinks (the bartender makes a great old fashioned with homemade infused cherries), we made our way to the game room. It's probably intended for kids, but we enjoyed a rousing game of air hockey. After digesting a bit, we braved our bathing suits and slid into the hot tub. It was heaven. Man, if only they had one outside too- that's the dream, right?! As we headed to bed, we noticed a quaint fire flickering outside. They have a sweet little patio with chairs around the fire pit. I was pretty pooped so we headed to bed, but can't wait to check it out tonight. Breakfast this morning is incredible. This is no extended-stay freebie breakfast. Homemade peach bread pudding, fresh baked goods, and all the meats. I only wish my husband were a foodie and a morning person. Even though there are a few families, it's relatively quiet here. I'm able to enjoy my coffee in peace. Thank you 506 Inn for making a stressful time in our lives a little more peaceful. We'll be back! But now for more breakfast! read more

Horrible customer service. Waited at the doorway to be seated for what seemed like forever while the hostess sat at the bar talking to her friends. Servers walked by over and over saying they'd help us soon and tried to get her attention but she couldn't be bothered. Finally she comes over and says "what do you need" and we asked for a table for 4 and she said she had nothing til 8pm, which is crazy because it's a Monday night and I can clearly see an available table. We were so frustrated to wait so long for such a rude and disappointing response. Don't bother going there - you'll only be served a hefty dose of attitude. read more

The food was very good and the chef came to our table and shared the ingredients of the sauce on our carrots (bourbon, maple, mustard) and said they were going to be more creative making things from scratch in the future....like his home made sweet potatoe veggie burger. Only suggestion would be to add high quality coffee, latte's cappucinos with dessert. My coffee was a disappointment. Breakfast buffet that was quite well done. A bit out of downtown Woodstock (which I liked) and a restaurant and bar on site. My husband and I were really looking forward to a mini vacation in Woodstock, VT with our 2 year old. This was to be our first getaway since the pandemic and I wanted to make sure we stayed at a reputable place. 506 on the river inn seemed like the perfect place that's super family friendly with advertised all day coffee and cookies provided (didn't have this likely due to pandemic), pool, and s'mores every evening with a large lawn for picnics with views of the mountains and river. Our overall stay was mediocre and certainly not worth the price. We stayed in a "suite" on the ground floor. I was immediately disappointed when we entered our room as it was not how it was advertised on their website. It did not have the warm and cozy feel as advertised. There were no decorative pillows or throw blankets on our beds as shown in the pictures and the sitting area in the 2nd room was instead an attached room with a full sized bed with a small tv awkwardly placed in the corner. There were two chairs for sitting as well with one of them slightly stained. The carpeting was less to be desired with areas of tattered rug and questionable cleanliness. The receptionist told me all the suites are this way and none were available on another floor (although the placed seemed nearly empty). We did appreciate the lawn with a playground and multiple areas to sit, including chairs right next to the river. We got zip lock bags to make s'mores the first night, but the fire had gone out before 7PM (was supposed to go until 8) and so we had to forgo that. The graham crackers were all broken and marshmallows were stale anyways. The highlights I would say are the take away breakfasts which were nice and convenient as well as the pool which is very nicely maintained. I'm sure the rest of the facilities and amenities would have been nice if it weren't for the pandemic... We still enjoyed our time in Woodstock and the hotel was fine overall, but it didn't live up to our expectations esp. for the cost of our stay. We won't be staying there again. read more

Very pleased with the restaurant. There was a snafu with our reservation and still fit us in with a baby. Waitress understood kids and need to get food out quick without even asking. Oh yea, and food was great! Got the burratta, which is locally made and creamy. Got the mushroom soup which was creamy thick and wonderful. Also got the pork schnitzel which was pounded thin, tender and crispy with a great mustard sauce. Accompanied by mashed potatoes and cabbage, both delicious! read more

We stayed here for one night as part of a family road trip and it was exactly what we needed. The rooms are nicely appointed, clean, and cozy. The common areas are nice and well thought out for travelers: a playset for kids, fire pits for the evenings, a pool, and Game and Toddler Rooms. We were traveling with a 1 year old so the Toddler room was a big hit! The restaurant/bar has a nice ambiance and the included breakfast provided good food options and delicious coffee. read more

I stayed at 506 on the River back in February for Valentine's Weekend with my boyfriend and boy did he get MAJOR bonus points for choosing this hotel!! I am all about an authentic experience when traveling and 506 On The River Inn is truly a unique experience to be had. Immediately upon arriving I noticed the authentic Vermont decor - from the outside to the inside, there are small decorative touches that give this location a perfect Vermont feel. The staff was very professional and our room was absolutely beautiful. The modern-farm-themed decor continues through the halls and into the rooms, making guests feel truly at home. Our room even had a sliding glass door that opened up to an incredible view of a pond and rolling hills of woods. Everything was also insanely clean...I'm talking immaculately clean. I was in heaven!!! The restaurant/bar inside the hotel was also a fabulous experience. My boyfriend and I enjoyed a later dinner/and drinks the evening we got there, which was very delicious and matched with awesome service from our bartender, and then we enjoyed the breakfast offered the next morning - the BEST part of our stay!! The breakfast was absolutely delicious and beautifully displayed. I felt as if I were eating breakfast in a farm house surrounded by family. Best find we had on a two week New England trip. The hotel was decorated beautifully and the rooms were spacious and well appointed. The location was close to town with river access. However it was the staff that made this hotel exceptional! Specifically Keri and Jeff who gave us area attractions and restaurant recommendations and were knowledgeable about the area. We ended up extending two extra days because we loved the hotel and staff so much! Great breakfast included in the rate.
