Learn something new everyday. In fact, this inn does not appear to have rooms on the ground floor or where the lobby is, but if they do, I just don't know where that would be. The dining room, kitchen and bar appear to be what exists on the main floor. Regardless of all that, our room upstairs was beautifully appointed and spacious, and our king-size bed with its fluffy pillows was so inviting and comfortable. It was beautiful !! We slept so very well. I wish we had booked for more than one night. Our room rate included a warm-cooked breakfast the next morning. For an additional fee, we ate our dinner at the Vic Tavern, as well. (Those will be reviewed under the Vic Tavern.) The owners were very nice and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with them and staying at their inn. We'd come back here in a heartbeat, so if we are ever fortunate enough to return to Vermont, we'd easily return to Woodstock and this lovely B&B.

Location is just on the outskirts of town, which is a perfect walk to dinner. The room is large with a sitting area and - believe it or not - a small in-room sauna. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom spacious and very modern and nice. There's a small outside seating area for our room too. Common areas are very well kept. Breakfasts were excellent, with pancake, omelet, and other options, fresh cooked to order every morning. Shout out to the pancakes which are out of this world. This is a wonderful B&B. You don't have the tavern, restaurant, and spa that you would have at the Woodstock Inn, but you do have the much larger room. It's the difference between a B&B and an inn. Based on reviews and their webpage, I was under the impression that breakfast was provided but it was not. You can buy breakfast in the restaurant but it is expensive. The weirdest part of the stay was that there is no host to check guests in or help with issues. It is completely virtual! You press the button on a doorbell camera and someone answers after like 5 min. I had to press it several times to get a response at 10 am in the day of my checkout. The response was the staff doesn't show up until 11 am; which is the checkout time. There is a text number but the person or AI agent on the other end clearly is not the innkeeper or anyone capable of making decisions. They/It provided faulty information and was the opposite of helpful. If this is what the future of hospitality looks like, I am not impressed. My family rented two rooms on the first floor. One room facing the back of the property was nice but the other one (#15) was very small and had two windows overlooking the front porch and yard. Unfortunately there are chairs just outside of the windows and someone kept sitting in one of them and talking on her phone. It was very uncomfortable to have the shades open and have someone sitting right there. Because of this we had to keep the curtains drawn and with the room being so small, it felt like we were in a cave. Basically, it sounds like staying at the Jackson used to be a very nice experience but new owners/management are now trying to run the hotel as cheaply as possible. Guests are noticing.

Bev is the primary inn keeper -- what a firecracker! She makes the most sumptuous country breakfast imaginable, with the most gorgeous flat, dish, silverware. The inn only has 3 rooms, so you'll be sure to feel comfortable in the intimacy of the house. When we stayed, at the end of October, we became fast friends with the other couple staying there (keep in mind, we are in our 20's/30's while the couple was in their 50's/60's, but the environment was just so laid back it was difficult not to be so friendly!). The place is near a cutesy New England downtown you would only expect to see in the movies. Also near Dartmouth U and Hannover. I've been spoiled -- don't know how I could ever go to any other B&B but this one ever again!

I also found out it holds 1 Michelin Key, which is their rating system for hotels/lodging parallel to their famous restaurant ratings. We arrived on Monday (Indigenous Peoples Day) so most people were wrapping up their long weekend. While it was still fairly busy, we never felt it impacted our experience. I was even able to work on a job application! The hotel itself is gorgeous, with many spots to capture mesmerizing photos of nature & people. The rooms are more traditional & country house/cottage style which also fits the aesthetic many young women want on a trip to arguably one of the best New England towns. The hotel is its own landmark/tourist destination as you'll constantly see groups lining up at the front to get a glimpse & small photoshoot session of the iconic facade!

Our room - the gala - had a much bigger bed than expected which was awesome as well as a spa tub, and gas fireplace. About $550 for two night stay which is very competitive for the area. Within walking distance to many attractions and shopping. Clean and the communal areas were very cute and matched online pictures exactly. My only qualm is that this is a very old house and you can hear EVERYTHING from the other rooms which was very unpleasant especially if you are in a downstairs room. Floors creaking, beds squeaking, music, conversations, etc. I would recommend bringing headphones and not coming here with children unless you can rent all the rooms for your group or you might have some explaining to do in regards to the sounds coming from other rooms... This is my first BnB experience so maybe this is the norm but I was not prepared for it. As far as I can tell there aren't any enforced quiet hours here. Shampoo/conditioner provided - no body soap. Hairdryer, iron, and hangers available in room. Extra blankets in room. Fridge available for guest storage. Ability to use microwave in kitchen. Parking lot in the back, parking included in stay. WiFi available, but NOT reliable for zoom at least in the room I was staying in. Suggest Farmer and the Bell for wifi for work. Thermostat/heater available. Host reachable via text. We ended up reserving the only room which does not have an en suite bathroom for $100/night, which includes a very tasty continental breakfast. (The bathroom for the Monk room where we stayed is just across the hallway.) The breakfast included delicious spiced oatmeal with a variety of add-ons (walnuts, chopped apples, honey, real maple syrup). Also available were hard boiled eggs, great coffee, a variety of teas, excellent bread and jams, bananas, apples, oranges, homemade pumpkin bread, Greek yogurt, granola. I peeked into a couple of the other rooms which were not currently rented and they all seem to be spacious and nicely decorated. Right now I am hanging out in the comfy shared living room space after wearing myself out XC skiing at the Woodstock Nordic Center this morning - only about a mile away. A variety of restaurants are within walking distance. And a bonus for us: There is an EV charger about a 2 minute walk away.

There are antiques everywhere in the hallways and the rooms carry that same vintage feel, which makes it really fun just to walk around and explore. There is also a library room with a pool table that feels like the cutest vintage lounge space. The pool area was amazing with a large hot tub, a nice pool, and a sauna. At night they have fire pits and complimentary s'mores packs so you can go outside and roast marshmallows. There are also games to borrow, a bar, river access, and so much more. Overall clean, neat, and looks brand new. Love the rustic design everywhere. The dorm room, which is where I slept, is on the second floor and quite spacious and it's nice they didn't cram more bunk beds. It sleeps 8 but it was just me and another person. It comes with a balcony with a view of the pond and forest, a dining table, a ceiling fan, split hvac system, and sitting area with chairs. Within the same building, downstairs is a mini-kitchen (no stove), 2 separate showers, the check-in office, and a private bedroom. The co-owner/wife is really sweet, friendly, and warm. Too bad I didn't have time to interact more. The Lodge (the common area) is a brief walk outside to get to it. It also has a rustic look. Clean and pretty cool. There's a laundry room, small full kitchen, 2 mini fridges, a full bathroom, a dining table, 2 sitting areas, books, board games, a guest photo album (love the idea), and a guest art book. Breakfast comes with your stay but it's not available till 8 am and I had to leave before then. There's also coffee and tea. Quiet hours begin at 9 pm and end at 6 am. I was surprised by 9 pm because that's too early but that's just me. The last 2 hostels I came from start quiet hours at 10 pm. The only complaint I have is the blanket given for the dorm beds is not sufficient for Vermont's cold temperatures during the night. A duvet will likely be a better option since it's easier to wash. And it didn't help that the other person I was sharing the room with likes to sleep cold (I say that because I saw that 1 window was slightly open and the ceiling fan was running). In short, just book a stay here! I doubt you'll have any regrets.

If anyone is staying above you, expect to hear every step they take. Pros: They do have a little fridge if you need to keep something cold. There is a little coffee and water station room by the office. If it had been cold outside, this would not be a fun morning adventure. The bed was comfortable. The fire pit out back along the river was nice. Very conveniently located, walking distance to downtown. If I stayed here again, I would choose upstairs river view. Costs more but probably worth it.

The hotel is a glorified motel with a nice backyard. Which by the way, we didn't even get to see. We had a view of the parking lot with zero privacy. Nobody even instructed us how to find the yard. We had to search for it. Second, two different people walked into our hotel room with keys. Thank goodness we were just sitting on the couch, but an hour after we checked in someone came in and an hour before we checked out someone came in. That is so unacceptable it's shocking. Third, when we tried to check in they had no idea how much I owed and talked to me about someone else's credit card info. I had to tell them what I owed. We gave them a card and instead they charged the one on file for incidentals. Not only did they hold money on the wrong card, but they did it three times! So instead of $100 hold on the wrong card, we had $300 on the wrong card. The room is about as basic as a room could possibly be. No perks and barely even any art or anything. The room has a paper thin blanket on it and the wall ac/heating unit smells like fire when it's working and is very loud. The bathroom is so stark white and boring with a giant crack in the wall. Had we paid $100-$200 for this night we'd let this all go, but we paid $420 for this absolute scam of a hotel. Not to mention, the hotel is under construction and remodeling so there are workers everywhere and every room is open and being worked on. If you want a peaceful trip to Woodstock, pick a different location. If we weren't only staying one night, we would have asked for a refund on night two and left. The only two pros: 1. It's walking distance from the cute city. 2. The people working are very kind and friendly, albeit unhelpful.
