We buy too many things in today's economy. And the worst part about it is that there are so many perfectly wonderful items that fit our needs that just get thrown out. Once Upon a Child isn't perfect. The staff is hit or miss, and some items are in better condition than others, but it's a gold mine for children's toys, clothes, and much, much more. You can find all the boots, and gloves, and hats, and toys, and more, at very affordable prices. The sheer size of the selection is mind-boggling coming from NYC, where space is so limited. I understand that you want to buy some nice, new clothes for your kids every once in a while, but (1) you can find some new or nearly new stuff here and (2) they've got to wear clothes every day, and they outgrow stuff in a week. I had a terrible experience at this location, I called in the morning before I arrived at the store. They told me the wait time and the container the items would have to be in. I prepared everything and drove 1 hour and 20 minutes, just to be told that they won't accept my container cause there was a crack down the side of it, which happened while I was struggling to open the door to enter the store. No worker offered to help me get through the door despite watching me struggle and then no worker greeted me on top of that. Just stared and watched as I approached the counter. I put my bin down and she said 'she can't accept the clothes cause the container was torn' I tried to explain that I don't live near to grab another container and she said I could go buy one across the street. I am very disappointed cause my baby clothes were new with tags still on and I know they would have taken at least half of the clothes... I will never use this business again. Terrible customer service. I almost started crying and they just stared at me. And told me that most people call ahead for that type of information and I did! I called when they opened. I have been to Once Upon A Child a handful of times. First time, was a few years ago because someone recommend selling my kids old clothes there and getting new. I went with a big box name brand clothes that were either new with tags or like new. I was offered $7 in cash or like $12 in stored credit. I looked around to see if there was anything I could get. I couldn't even get 2 items with the (approx. 50 pc of clothes I brought). I'm sorry but places like this should be selling clothes at almost garage sale prices or atleast a quarter of the price. I went to the mall after looking around there the last time I was there and paid $5 more for an item that brand new instead of used. When you have little darlings that grow literally overnight, Once Upon a Child is a great spot to grab a decent pair of shoes, fancy dress for Easter, confirmations, Aunt Mimis 90th birthday bash....etc. without breaking the bank getting something the twerp will wear once. If you sign up for their rewards, you can accumulate points and get 20% off coupons, or text alerts letting you know when they are having clear-out sales. I came here a few times recently because my nephew is 12 months old, wearing clothes for 18 months. I was able to score him 2 shirts, 2 onesies, and 3 pairs of shoes for about $23. Auntie can shop though. Sometimes you have to dig for the new stuff, and yes, Baby Air Jordans are going to cost you a piece of your soul even second hand, but it is what it is. It is cramped, there are racks with too many clothes crammed together. There will be some middle aged Mom with two kids who are bouncing off the walls, asking for everything, as she takes up the entire aisle yelling "No" while on the phone with her sister, but...... After discovering this place, I probably will not buy my children brand new clothing at this age because they don't know the difference. They do have clothes for kids up to around age 12 too. As mentioned before, if your son in 4th grade has a band concert and needs a black pair of dress shoes, or you want to give your daughter an Underarmour hoodie without going broke, stop here and dig first. read more

This is a great spot to find new/like new shirts & sweaters for toddler boys! The selection is outstanding! I have also seen a great selection of rain boots, water shoes and rash guards. I almost exclusively buy gently used baby gear, clothes and toys. Once Upon a Child is my favorite place to get baby clothes and shoes. They have frequent sales, buy back program, rewards points, etc. I am able to get good quality clothes, mostly nicer brands (Gap, Ralph Lauren, Carter's, Osh-Kosh, etc.) for a fraction of the price. The shoe offerings are pretty good and I have never spent more than $2.00 for baby shoes there. The staff is helpful, friendly, and keep the store in pretty good order despite the many kids running about. The only things I wish they would change are: 1) Their disorganized toy section. Even a division by general type of toy in bins would be helpful. 2) That they would sell used maternity clothes. 3) That their body suits and hats/gloves bins were better organized. read more

Love this place! There is so much second-hand baby and kid stuff in this store it's ridiculous. Everything is well organized, although there is a lot so the store seems a little crowded sometimes (especially when there are a lot of moms with kids in the aisles!). The workers are very friendly and helpful. My favorite part is the book section-- there are tons of books, and most of them are VERY cheap! Recently, I went and they had a 'Buy 5, Get 5' special on books... So I got 10 gently used baby books for $2.17 total. I have also heard that this is a really wonderful place to purchase clothes for your kids (but haven't ventured into the clothing realm yet). Found this places early in 2018, have sold with pretty good result. A few issues, brought back some clothes in bucket my grandson never worn, purchased there was in bucket not accepting. I have also sold to them many times, and while they don't take everything (tip: they won't take anything with the tags cut out), they always buy a good portion of my stuff. If you consistently sell back to them the clothes that you buy as your kids grow, you are getting an even better deal!! If you're looking for customer service, look elsewhere. I've been to every location for years, all different hours, different staff, different reasons... and I've always left saying "Literally, I'm never stepping foot in there again" because they are so incredibly rude. The last 3 times, it has gotten mind blowing. They will stare at you when you walk in but not greet you. 4 associates will stand behind the registers "tagging" items and ignoring you while you wait (I actually put an armful of items back recently because I waited almost 5 entire minutes while a herd of these women just stared at me and ignored me). They require reusable bags but the last 3 times I've been there, I hand them my bag and they will leave it on the counter and walk away with my items in a pile (unfolded, just a pile) on the counter and let me put my own things in the bag. Just... rude. Where do they find these women? It's been years since I actually had a decent experience at one of these places. The clothes are okay (check them well because they can be stained and torn, but somehow they will return your brand new with tags items because they're out of date? And have Carter's items from 1995 on the shelf...) If you've never been there, just beware and don't expect the world. The good deals require some digging and patience and you need to be ready to deal with their attitudes at checkout. read more

Not only does this place give you next to nothing on the wares you bring in but you can obviously tell they overprice everything they sell because they are so overstocked. There is barely enough room to walk around and "shop" let alone wait the ungodly hour to three hours to "sell" your stuff, only to wait around to be told they either are taking none of it or they are giving you $1 for each item. Usually fairly happy with this place it is what it is but the last few times customer service resembles a scene from clerks which is a reference most of the people working there are too young to get... Sizes are disorganized, clearance sections are hidden and FYI if you find them the mysterious red lines apparently indicate that a item is a dollar this is a awesome bargain if you find them on everything but the oneses which are normally like 1.50 but you can buy 10 regular priced ones for 10$ so one would assume the clearance would be cheaper right? nope same price at least I was told by the less than enthusiastic sales clerk and her team behind the counter. when I remarked that there was no clear indication of what the red line meant I was dismissed noncommittally. If you have time and patience it's a great place to buy. I have 3 growing children and have finally learned that paying retail price just isn't worth it, they grow and stain things so quickly. 75% of what I buy at once upon a child has original tags on it. Though they do have some things that look very used they have more clothing that look brand new. Great brands like Gap, Carters, DKNY, Disney, etc. does get crowded, lots of kids crying but like I said if you have time to sift through the all the clothes and patience for a small place, it's totally worth it. read more

Today I brought a 35 gallon tote of nothing except NAMEBRAND high quality childrens clothing ranging from 2t-12/14 in kids. ALL my items were BabyGap, Ralph Lauren, The Children's Place, Janie and Jack, Gymboree, Lucky Brand, abercrombie kids and new with tag items that retail was 19.99+ exc. The staff were exceptionally rude- I wasn't greeted upon entering, I had brought my 3 year old twins with me and when they said hello to not 1, but 3 of the employees they received no response. After telling me it would be 30-45 minutes (not a problem as I expected to wait) it wound up taking well over an hour and a half. I was informed that they were done sorting and directed to a register that was open, another customer rudely crowded the counter (obviously wanting to be checked out first), witnessing this all 3 employees continued on as if that was acceptable and pleasantly checked her out. Finally, once at the counter I was shown the bin of my items that they wishes to purchase. Of course they took new with tag items and then various off-brands from Kohls, Target exc. and several select BabyGap items. I would estimate 60 items, at least 2 new with tags that retailed above $20.00 as well as new packaged Umbro & Adidas children's shinguards. The rest were all high-end (many worn once or twice) pieces. My pathetic offer: $26.00 whole dollars!! WOW!! How generous right!? My husband at this point was aghast and began inquiring if the entire bin was what they were offering me $26.00 for, somewhat double checking for himself as he knows (and sometimes gets annoyed with my continuous spending and shopping for the kids). After she confirmed that yes $26.00 was my offer, she then explained that the rest they couldn't accept due to "stains, excessive washing appearance and that they were "out of date". LIES, LIES, LIES!! I went through 4 of my totes last night and sorted out like-new condition namebrand, stain-free items, ALL my items are very recent (within 6-12 months of being in-store) I normally consign my twins and daughter's clothing immediately after switching seasonal wardrobes to intentionally get the best price and save space. I spent easily two hours going through totes and looked at each individual peice to make sure there were no stains, rips, exc. I also made sure to lay each item flat as there stupid "tips for selling more" tutorial video from the website suggested, WASTE OF MY TIME!! So after all of this I ask the girl what percentage they pay me of the retail value....she replies with "We sell items 70% less than retail" ....ok that doesn't answer my question. So then I ask what they were offering me specifically for a NEW WITH TAGS "JUST ONE YOU" brand by Carters ,2pack of fleece size 5T footed sleepers I purchased at Target. Her reply ".96 cents. Yes $.96 cents!!! Baffled I ask her what they charge in-store for a 2pk of them and she looks very confused and answers $4.50. Again I ask her if its a twin, meaning 2 pc set, meaning more than 1, meaning new with tags item for $4.50? and she replies "Ya for 1". At this point my husband is appalled at the rudeness, stupidity and lack of comprehension that he tells her we would like our items back and that we aren't satisfied with the $26.00 huge payout they generously offered. It just got worse from there, after declining the offer a plump employee got a shitty attitude and asked in a condescending manner "well dont you know how the buying works!? Didnt anyone explain it to you!" Um no they didnt and when I tried explaining that $26.00 was rediculous for the amount, quality, and that all my items were stain-free and less than 12 months old she simply stopped paying attention to me. The employee asked me for the 3rd time if i wanted to take back all my items and then proceeded to shove my items in a bag and slide them at me across the counter without any pleasantries. Frankly this store is a JOKE, the employees are RUDE, SLOPPY, CONDESCENDING, and LIARS. They TRY to rip you off, are obviously mathematically challenged, and I WILL NEVER AGAIN TRY TO CONSIGN TO THEM AGAIN. Oh and on a serious note to the managers, for being "brand specific" I saw equally as much off-brand, Walmart and cheap crap as I did "namebrand", and I know easily 80% of my items were newer. I would like to add that after leaving "ONCE UPON A CHILD" IN HENRIETTA NY IN THE SOUTH TOWN PLAZA I DROVE TO "KIDTOKID" ON RIDGE ROAD W & BROUGHT IN THE EXACT ITEMS AND WAS OFFERED ALMOST $70.00 FOR LESS ITEMS THAN AT "ONCE UPON...." THE STAFF WERE EXCEPTIONALLY FRIENDLY, PERSONABLE AND THEY EVEN SAID IT WAS OK FOR MY TWINS TO "EXPLORE" THEIR HUGE SELECTION OF TOYS. Had an awful experience at the webster location today! I am 6 months pregnant and had parked my car right out side the door to take my stuff out that i was selling (which i needed to make 2 trips 5 huge bags of stuff). I brought in what i could in the first trip (struggled) and as soon as i got to the counter the girl told me i had to move my car! She didnt offer me help or apoligize just told me to move my car! So i leave the store while they tally up what i have. I come back and park in the lot. I go back in to get what they didnt want (which was the same 5 heavy bags) and once again NO one asks if you need help or anything! Its crazy that your a childrens store but dont offer assistance to people that need it! I don't know what i would have done if my daughter was with me and juggling both! They have a nice selection of items. I have bought and sold here. It's always crowded, and sometimes hard to shop with people's kids running around. However, I will continue to shop and sell here. I'm not sure why people seem to think this business is obligated to buy their items, because they are not. They buy what is in season, and what will sell. AWFUL, rude, stuck up clerks that have absolutely no customer service, compassion for frazzled/busy moms, and little ones going through the aisles. Did not help me with the door when I had a stroller, two bags, and two little girls in tow, didn't smile or greet my daughter when she asked them a question about a toy they were organizing. struggled to get in the bathroom with the girls for a diaper emergency and they rolled their eyes and said the shopping cart could fit in the bathroom if I was having issues. No idea where any of there stuff is, no offer of assitance and just have mean/scowling looks on their faces. This store is nice, specially for cheap cute clothes. They seem to have a bigger and better selection for younger 0-12 months size and girls sizes. I had a hard time finding anything for my 5 year old son but i found a lot of cute things for my 3 year old daughter. Selling them clothing seems to be a little different every time I have been there, the first time they bought everything, the second time i went they only bought 4 things. This store in Henrietta has a bad smell to it and the people shopping in there are rude and their kids are laying all over the aisles. I went to sell some clothing after looking around to see what kinds of items they sold. I took in a few bags of clothing. I went back later to cash out and they gave me the majority of it back, even though I looked around and saw all the same types of items. My items were all brand name and I looked in the store and they were selling Walmart and Target brand for $3 or $4 an item, when I know for a fact that those items new are only that much. They said that some of the items had stains on them, which is not true because I specifically sorted through all the items to make sure they were in perfect condition. They were also picky enough to say to bring them in flat, not folded. This store is disguting and I will not be going back! read more
