The staff was rude upon entry. No hi or hello or how are you. I came in at 2:50 and they barked that the sale counter closes at 3. My sister went in twice and each time the staff had a rude attitude. They told her they don't buy back on Sunday, which is NOWHERE on their website, and when she came back a second time they said they don't take TOTES which IS on their website. These rules are fine if they explained them nicely but they were so rude about it. HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. For people working in a children's store, they all NEED TO BE FIRED for being miserable, UNKIND people. read more

I have visited three different locations and this has been the worst experience I have ever encountered, which is sad because I heard amazing things about this store. Upon my arrival to sell items I was not even greeted with a hello, by the two young girls behind the counter instead I was told "we don't buy tubs". I am totally fine with the policies but it would be appreciated if I was directed where to put my items and greeted before I was told what would not be taken. I was then confronted about the condition of my items and them not being folded, which again is fine if they need to be in a certain condition however before I could get the tub on the ground I was questioned. I am very sorry to say I will not be visiting this location again and I will advise Mom's that I know of this incident. read more

We absolutely love this store! Didn't discover it until my second child, but now it's my first go to place for both my girls to get the cutest clothes, shoes, toys and any other kids' necessities. You will always find great buys. The clothes that are available are in great condition, either lightly used or like brand new! There is a great variety to select from. Love shopping here. Three stars is only for the awesome selection of baby clothes and gear. You're not gonna find much for your older kids, which is odd because I sold a TON of brand new clothes from my 6 year old son and they only offered me $7!!!! For $85 worth of brand new, never worn jeans! I hard key ever find anything decent for my 5 yo boy, 6 yo boy or 8 yo girl. But my newborn son... Wow! The best selection of newborn clothes I've ever seen in resale for a boy!! However, the clothes are VERY pricey for resale. You must wait until a sale or it's not affordable. So in summary, go there to find baby clothes when there's a sale and that's all this place is good for. read more

Reviewing only as a buyer, the employees here are so nice. I ran in here needing a last minute outfit for my son for his holiday concert at school. After checking out, I came across a jacket and passed it up, only to regret it. So I called back and they not only texted me a picture to confirm it was the jacket I described, they held it for me until the end of the day. On top of that, they let me apply a coupon I had toward the purchase since I had bought clothes earlier in the day and my grand total would qualify for the coupon. They did not have to be this kind to me, and I was amazed at how much customer service they provided. I was able to catch their fall clearance sale and found a few nice quality tops for 50% off. While reviews for selling here are negative, I would say buying here is a great experience and you should give them a try. read more

I love shopping and selling at this store! The staff is always fast and courteous when I sell my sons old clothes and I always find great clothes in practically brand new condition for my son at insane prices! For a boy who's rough on clothes and grows so fast, this is definitely the best place for me to shop. Plus you can't beat practically brand new Abercrombie & Fitch jeans for only $7! Finding good stuff to buy is always hit and miss. I don't think I will sell to them again. They took 6 winter coats, a few pj sets, dresses, shirts, and pants, several pairs of shoes, boots, cleats plus several Melissa and Doug toys that were in good shape. They only offered me $48 for the whole load. 3 bags and a box of stuff. I know they are looking to make a profit in resale, but so am I; I don't think I was given a fair price. Drove 35 minutes to sell a car load of items only to be sent away because they stopped doing buys on Sunday's. Nowhere on either their website or Facebook does it state they stopped doing Sunday buys. Employee was extremely rude when I came in to try to sell. Snapped and told me they stopped a couple months ago and did not apologize when I explained I drove quite some distance. There is a small sign on the front door stating they stopped doing Sunday buys. I wrote a complaint in via Facebook and was told I should've called to ask. Why call to ask if they used to do them? Why not post on their websites that they suddenly stopped? Bad business and bad customer service. I will no longer frequent here. read more

I traveled out to this location and it is not a short distance and I got there with a bassinet and some clothes. First off they told me that because my bassinet had a small mark on it they wouldn't take it. Now mind you I saw toys with worse damage then mine and they bought that, Then they tell me that hey have to take my clothes and have to go through them and I will get a call when they are have decided on the clothes they are willing to purchase. I got a call the same night. When i go to pick them up they bought next to nothing and all f my baby clothes were barely worn with no stains. They only bought he items that were brand new. I didn't even make up the gas money i spent to drive there. Very disappointing. read more

I've been shopping at Once Upon A Child for years now, and have been very pleased with them. The Troy location is the only one I've been to in the past 5 years. The employees and owner have all been especially helpful and friendly every time I go in. Last December I went in a week before Christmas and asked if they happened to have a leather jacket I could get for a gift for my 8-yr-old son. They actually had a few for me to choose from. As I was checking out another customer looked at me in awe, saying she'd heard me make my request when I came in and thought there was no way I'd be able to get just what I was looking for. I wasn't surprised at all, as I am almost always able to find whatever I need there. I currently shop for an infant granddaughter as well as my 7yo daughter and my 9 and 11yo sons, and the clothes I find are always in great condition, reasonably priced, and in current styles. I can't comment on their clothes-buying process, and I've never sold any to them, but I would highly recommend them for your clothing needs. read more

Since, they do not pay well for cloths with tags I sell them on craigslist and I made much better deal. Other, I found shirt with tag in that store to buy, tag was from Khols for $4.99 on clerance and they were selling for $6.99, so I ask the lady why the price is higher then original price, she answered that is thiers price...so I asked again why - the lady said ...because once upon a child is also store with good deals...I asked - how come ? .....when once upon a child is a resale shop not original...shop. That conversation makes me feel like I will not shop there anymore. I prefer to buy on clearance some cloths or on craigslist. Worst stuff I have ever met in any store. We LOVE this store! The clothes are in very good condition, many of them still with tags on. The store is very well organized and although they have a lots of options, they're all in their own places so it's easy to find what you're looking for. The employees are so sweet and friendly and go above and beyond to make sure they help you in any way they can. Don't get me wrong I can find good deals here on occasion, but I think this place is way overrated. There is an older woman that works here and she is beyond rude. I walked in on a saturday at around 630PM, they were closed but I didn't realize it because doors were completely unlocked, lights were all on, and there were a few people finishing up purchases. The woman gives me this ticked off look and was like "uhh were closed", I apologized and said I thought they were open til 8, and she was like "that's during the week, there IS a sign you know". Her tone of voice was condescending and rude. First off, who reads door signs before walking in if doors are unlocked and lights are on and it LOOKS open? It was dark, I had the baby with me, I didn't take the time to "read the sign". I did NOT appreciate her tone of voice, and I DID apologize. She acted like I was this huge burden. Also, they rarely buy stuff back. I have taken near new things there before and they don't buy anything back. I've also seen pretty old looking, stained clothes on the racks. Things are also often mislabeled size-wise. I see a ton of 3-6 mo clothes are in the 6-9 section. I feel like sizes there are often labeled one size up from what they actually are. Those minor issues I can tolerate, however rude people I cannot. I'd rather buy new than deal with that nonsense. That woman better watch how she talks to her customers or she's going to lose them. read more

My 2 stars are for Erin and Peggy. They are great. However my last trip to this store was my last. There are a few younger girls who work her and they are rude and insulting. I watched them hold up clothes that were brought in and make fun of them. Saying things like "who brings this in, man she must be real poor". The owner is very nice and professional, and handles unwanted merchandise respectfully and professionally, however the older lady that is there a lot is VERY rude. This woman actually told me ALL my stuff was stained, worn and nothing suitable for purchase or resale!!! I was horrified by the unprofessionalism and she reluctantly decided she would go ahead and sort through the remainder of my items, of which she purchased NONE. I was not surprised after all the earlier negative comments. It's an okay place to shop, expect higher than usual retail prices, you need to look hard for a deal. Often times better searching clearance racks at department stores! As for selling, they are VERY picky and often times rude. I pride myself in having and keeping nice/stylish things. They buy very little and pay even less. I needed dresses that were similar for a portrait in size 2 and 12 and would you believe I found them at Once Upon A Child.... almost identical. Then after the portrait, I returned them and recouped about half of what I spent for the dresses. Can't beat it for kids clothes, shoes and toys. read more

Had a very disappointing experience at the Troy, Mi location on Saturday, April 8. I asked the employee approximately how long did she think it would be until they were done looking over my items. She rudely looked away and said "I cant tell you that." I attempted to ask again because I simply wanted to know if I should leave the store or browse. She cut me off and rudely stated her previous statement. I was bewildered at 1. her rude tone and 2. this policy. Fortunately a woman next to her nicely explained that it was a sale day so they cannot say how long. I turned and walked away and the original woman made a snide comment. At that point I should have turned around and taken my things and left. When I returned, the woman wouldnt even look at me and it was extremely uncomfortable.To top it off- they didnt even thoroughly go through my bag and box as many of my items were clearly untouched and left exactly as I had them. Took my remaining items to Childrens Orchard in Utica today and received much better service. read more

I brought in 2 tubs of very nice, clean, put together boys clothes (some brand new with tags) they only took maybe 5 items. Other items still in box never been opened less than $5. What a joke. The girls were rude saying you can turn around and take that back out. Will never bring my items in and will never shop here again. OUAC has been in this location for years, but switched owners a couple years ago. The new owner was really sweet when I met her back then and she did a wonderful job organizing and redecorating. Unfortunately, I actually would prefer the old beat up store with the old under-the-sea bathroom paint if it meant that I would see the business ethic that used to be there, too. It's true that this store buys your stuff at WAY below fair price. I recently took a large bin of girls and boys clothes - most only had only been worn a few times and all nice brands (Land's End, Ralph Lauren, Justice, Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, Chaps, GAP...) The boys shirts even had all the pick up tags from being washed at pressed at the cleaners. For the whole basket I was offered less than twenty bucks. I KNOW what that place charges for the caliber and condition of clothing that I brought in. It's a great business model, but not ethical business to try to rip your customer off. I used to be so pleased to know that my kids' gorgeous clothes would be enjoyed/see some more wear out them AND I'd get a fair amount of pocket change. Win/win, right? That's the way it USED to be with the old owners (and is in similar resale shops in our area). I'm sad to have to drive that far to get/give the deals I once did so close to my house. read more

call ahead and asked a few questions regarding selling items to the store. I was told to make sure that the clothing I brought in, where in good, unstained condition and to "Make outfits" I asked about some cloth diapers I had and was told that they would take them. I brought in a pack N' Play, toys and bin of clothes that had very good clothes ( even Janie and Jake stuff). I had to return the next to finish my inventory which was annoying. But they hardly took and anything, left the clothes they riffled through a mess in the bin ( I made sure all was neatly folded before hand) and was told that they didn't take used cloth diapers ( but would take new, who would sell them new cloth diaper?-must be smoking something good) I think the employees need better train and the staff need to good lesson in what is "high end clothing" . In browsing their items for sale, I knew my stuff much better quality and in better condition. Their discounts weren't much better then new. They wouldn't take the Aden and Anais blankets I brought in.....was told they had to be new and packaged ( again, wtf?) a lot of work for not much in return. will not buy or sale with them again. I think they rip-off both the customer and the seller. read more

This place is horrible. I carried in 9 boxes with my 2 year old and after i carried them ALL in as they watched me some rude old lady tells me they only take 3 at time i said would had been nice to know before she rolled her eyes at me. Then after i carried all but 3 back another old RUDE lady told me they needed to be sorted by sizes and pieces together i told her that they were she rolled her eyes at me. All my clothes were in perfect condition i have sold at the one in novi and never had problems but this one is terrible. They called me told me they went the clothes when i got there they told me they couldnt take my clothes cuz they were stained and faded and not matched together. My mom and i both laughed cuz the clothes that we put on top were still there they didnt even look at them. We pulled them out and they were all in perfect condition no stains and no fading as most were worn one time. Stay away from this rude bunch of people who have no respect and are to lazy to go through clothes. Will be taking my bussiness else where. read more
