It's spacious with lovely greenery and reading nooks--and it has a Harry Potter room! The kids section has heart-melting tiny cushion seats for the littlest readers in your life. No space is wasted here as you'll see bookish tokens from totes, socks, and pencil pouches placed in various locations. The main space has comfy couches, great lighting, and it almost makes you feel like you're reading in an English garden. Fabulous selection of used and new with fair prices. The owner was a gem and so nice to chat with. If I lived in Springfield, I would be here all the time. I'm definitely coming back to stay in "Sleep Above the Shop" space.

I usually get a kick out of that feeling until a half-hour later when the weight of utter futility has set in and I realize, indeed, I'm not finding anything decent and I learn what it must be like to live in a Soviet-style dictatorship where someone has cruelly banned the Vonneguts and whatnot. That type of materialistic capitalist hoarding hasn't set in at this bookstore, and least not as-of the date I went last. They looked to specialize more in classics, notable modern authors, and well-reviewed contemporary works. Out of all the used book stores I've been to (a fair amount), this one is the furthest left on the quality-quantity balance, and that's not a bad thing. Prices seemed reasonable and the books look to be in good condition. Staff seemed chill and it sounds like they accept store credit if you have good material to give them (I have convinced myself that the bartering for property rights in material goods is for ironic purposes only). If you feel any comradeship with those with liberal arts pedigrees or are just one of those folks who needs more than potboiler books of the petit bourgeoisie, this place would be an excellent option. Additionally, there are no restrooms - so while you're lost trying to find books, following incorrect labeling, and navigating the otherwise chaotic disorderliness, you can rest assured that they will be unaccommodating. I recently took my family here, and as we were compiling a stack of books worth a couple of hundred dollars (we're working to stock our home library built-in shelves), our toddler son needed to use the restroom. We asked if he could use theirs, and they said no. Rather than spending my money with them, I left my stack of books where they were and took my son to the restroom at Barnes & Noble, where I continued my book shopping. As for the bulk of used books I need, I can obtain them via Amazon and AbeBooks, and don't have to support a rude local business that is unhelpful and falls short of providing a quality experience. Why shop local when you can shop at the giants who care about their customers? I will never return.

Ugh, I just got done running home to get a utility bill to show to renew my library card. I've had…read morea library card here for 5 years. First when it was a private library and I donated money for an annual card and now the second year since it has become a public library. I voted YES to it becoming public because I grew up appreciating having access to a library. Now, seeing how elderly the population is here, I hope more and more benefits will be developed for them through this community library. Short version to my mediocre star rating is based on the inefficiency of the one website that the staff can utilize to confirm residency, its ineffectual. As a resident of 5 years and a tax payer for 5 years, I could not be found. I sympathize with people further out of town, the elderly, new commers, and previous or on-going library patrons having to prove who they are past showing their drivers license. The information my paper file they hold has the exact same information that appears on my drivers license! I'm an election judge in Taney county, and the legal residence in the United States are allowed to vote legally easier than trying to obtain a library card here. I receive surveys to better this library and diligently fill them out. I hope this note goes towards addressing this issue. The library staff deserves better tools to assist guests to this library. For decades, I have only been buying my books at the Friends of the Library bookstores around the country. The money goes to support the library. The community donates their books, most of them brand new and hardbound. This is the BEST Friends Bookstore I have ever seen. I come to Branson several times a year, and I load up on books. I buy bags and bags of them here. It is an enormous room full of bookshelves. They are well organized and categorized for easy perusal. Nowhere on earth can you beat these prices!

They keep LGBTQ book displays up year-round and not just at Pride! They also have a banned books display all year round. I also enjoy the events they host, i've been making new friends at the k-pop meetups they host and they also hold book release parties and author signings that are great. Only complaint is i wish they still had a music section.
