While the process started out friendly, and i told them I will not pay the astronomical rate (25%), because I own a business and I take capital serious. I know, I know. My dad taught me the same thing. "If it sounds too good to be true..." However, after making no progress with my bank of ten years I was curious but skeptical about OnDeck. I love how banks advertise how much they are for small businesses but can't seem to deliver unless you have equal collateral or high net worth. Well, if I had a high net worth I wouldn't need a loan now would I? The circular reasoning is just too much! Though my 7 year old company is growing and has over a half million in annual revenue, I found myself going nowhere regarding financing. Enter OnDeck. I spoke with Nastassja Tejada who was terrific. She patiently told me all about OnDeck and gave me multiple financing options with varying term lengths and interest rates. I wrote down the options to review later. There was no pressure and after researching the company and reviewing the options and doing some math, I called her back. I really appreciated the flexibility and variety of offerings. I don't understand the reviews that whine about interest rates. If you're in business, you should always take your time, conduct due diligence and know what you are getting involved with. The terms were reasonable considering these good people are lending me a significant amount of money with no collateral. Think about it. They are risking everything and are truly helping small businesses. Yes, clearly they are making money. Isn't that what we all want to do? They're not a non-profit charity so put on your big boy pants and make a solid business decision. If you feel OnDeck is not for you then go talk to your bank some more. Yes, I was skeptical after being turned down so many times and feeling like nobody really understands what small business owners go through. I did my homework and discovered OnDeck is a publicly traded company (ONDK) which increased my comfort level. OnDeck was fantastic when I was able to make payments on time. I have been a customer for 5 years and never once missed a payment. Then Covid happened and my business was forced to shut down. OnDeck has been my biggest stress. They required weekly calls to forbear the payments. Then they stopped allowing my payments to be on hold. They charged interest all of Covid. I'm not able to make payments at the same amount I was prior to Covid and I've tried working with the billing dept. Another lender was amazing and offered me help immediately. OnDeck in comparison didn't respond to emails for a month and once they did, they kept saying what I was asking for was illegal (yet the other lender offered the concessions without me asking, so clearly it was not illegal and after being pressed the rep finally admitted it was simply their internal policy and not law). And the billing dept has shown no compassion in their dealing with me in their communications whatsoever. Further OnDeck declined my ppp application saying I had too much debt- but that was debt they held. But they made me submit the same documents over and over again for weeks and made me plead for an answer one way or another. Again, this shows the lack of communication this company provides. Every other financial company I've worked with has been understanding during this time. Except OnDeck. I even contacted the VP of customer service and asked for help. He promised a 'review' which came back an hour later stating they'd followed all the correct procedures for my file. But they clearly hadn't seen all the emails I've sent over the past 4 months- as many as 15 went fully unanswered and the ones that were answered were lacking in substantive answers or help or contained an "offer" that was not at all feasible for a business running during a pandemic. They mostly just threatened me further or tried to mislead me. I'm now at the point of having my bankruptcy lawyer handle all matters with them, and this loan alone is driving me to bankruptcy because of their lack of interest in working with me in a reasonable way. It's heartbreaking that I have given this company so much money and they are taking even more when I am state ordered first to be closed for three months, then to be operating at 1/2 capacity, face the very real fear of getting shut down again at anytime, and I am trying to hold a face to face business together with string. I should be spending this time keeping my clients happy and safe and my business running well, but instead I have to fight to keep my business alive because of these poor practices. I have done multiple loans with OnDeck. I am ready to do more. My business track record is great. No condescending BS that the banks give small business and very little paperwork required. My only reason not to give 5 Stars is that every time I do a new loan, they do not go lower than 10% I would like a decision maker to contact me regarding this so we can get the next loan going. I would love to do 10% or less over 12 months. I am sure my loan rep is just doing her job, but I hope this review helps me negotiate lower terms. BEWARE--- After auto debiting and making $4000/mo, weekly $1000 payments on my account religiously, I called OnDeck to try and refinance my new reduced balance because I had paid it down so much. They then started to deduct $660 PER DAY from my bank account! After noticing a couple payments deducted, I immediately called the OnDeck Rep and the guy said he was going to freeze my account because he couldn't refund ANY of my money and that for three weeks I wouldn't have to make a payment because I was overcharged. Here I am two days later with not only another $660 deducted but also ANOTHER $1000 deducted!! My payroll account checks are bouncing, other charges are being rejected and now my payroll account is negative and now fees are piling up! My employees are UPSET, CRYING and to make matters worse it's Christmas in a few days and I scrambling! This has ruined my reputation, banking relationship and my relationship with OnDeck! After speaking to a couple attorneys they've mentioned that they received multiple complaints about ONDECK Capital. The only problem is that because I signed an arbitration agreement written into their contract, I can't sue them. I had to file a case with JAMS, an arbitration company they use in Utah. I've filed Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commision, Consumer Financial Protection Bureau complaints as well. This was a breach of contract for payments I didn't authorize. What type of company is this? Show me where I signed up for this to be deducted from my account daily. There is nothing because I never authorized anything, which is ILLEGAL. Michael Farber, a supervisor has refunded all of the overages but also said the lower payments they authorized will show negatively on my credit. So now I'm back to paying $4000/mo for the $37k loan. OnDeck Capitals mistakes have damaged something you can't easily or "at all" get back- MY REPUTATION. In business this is everything. They have violated Regulation Z: Truth in Lending guidelines and other laws that protect consumers from big banks. I intend to make sure they fairly have their legal consequences and penalties to pay. read more

Very high interest mine was at 32%. You will make payments daily. If you decide to pay in more money they take 50% of that amount. They will 1099 you at the end of the year meaning you have to report this amount to the IRS. You will have to pay interest to the IRS on this amount. Paying in more does not mean you will stop the payments early. They will claim to reduce take off interests and re issue a new loan once you are paid off at 50%. NOT true in my case. I would recommend to look into other options if that is a choice for you otherwise it gets very frustrating and you will feel stuck. read more

I sent them everything they needed and then some and then nothing. No response, total silence with no attempt to keep the promise of efficiency they claim to work towards. Very disappointing. I sent a dissatisfied email to Blake and he sent back a lack luster response that indicates he has no desire to work for my business. I know I am the one looking for a credit line to grow my business but their claims to work efficiently are false. Be careful about doing business with these people. They now have quite a bit of my financial information and I feel as though I have to be vigilant to make sure I am not at risk financially. This company uses illegal tactics. They will accept your application and then cut you out and claim "we already received this file". Then they send out your file to other lenders (or just fund the deal directly) which is known as "backdooring" and completely cut you out. This is fraud and they have become blatant about it. The worst business decision of my entire life was to use OnDeck (OD). My company needed cash quickly. My bank was very slow to work with, and I was not aware of relatively quick and painless alternatives providing funding at low interest rates in my community such as Fundingcircle, Liftfund, or PayPal. My ignorance of options beyond OD at the time cost me dearly, as I paid an APR of 39.18% on money borrowed. In retrospect, the only thing worse than getting raped on such a high interest rate by OD, was the fact that the managers and staff showed (over the 9 months I dealt with them) a clear and distinct pattern of dishonesty. Most of the time they lied by omission. See the many other negative OD reviews for specific examples of their lies of omission. Other times they would say they were going to do something but then did not follow through, or would even do the exact opposite of what was promised, blaming their inaction or misdeeds on a "decision of management that left our hands tied." A third pattern I noticed, which was also the most disturbing, was that sales reps acknowledged the institutional dishonesty of the company in small ways when I spoke with them over the phone,but then did nothing to stop the bad behavior. For example, no less than four sales reps that I spoke with at OD admitted to me that the positive reviews they get online are paid for and not authentic. They even called them "ads", and said "it brings people like you to us!" Stupid me, lesson learned. Fortunately my company was healthy enough to whether the mistake I made by using OD. If you're contemplating taking a loan w OD, please reconsider. There are many other options, and you won't have to deal with these lying, usurist wolf-pigs. read more

As background, I'm a residential remodel general contractor who has been in business since 1979. I'm a small business, with anticipated revenue for the coming year in the $500,00 range. As we've had a tough quarter due to a plethora of small jobs and nothing large to carry us through the holiday season, cash flow has been tight and I was interested in roughly 10K operating capital and 20K to consolidate a longer term business credit card debt. Not failing, nowhere I haven't been before, but I was looking at a 10K credit card advance to push through into the next quarter when the mail solicitation from OnDeck arrived. I went through the online app process only to be told to wait for a phone call before they could review details of a loan offer. That's flag number one. Return call took awhile, but finally I spoke with one of OnDeck's agents. He talked about loan amount and daily (daily!) loan payments. Who works on daily payments, and can translate that into monthly payments and interest rates? Flag number two. When pressed, he admitted that the APR (annual percentage rate) came to 67.5%. That's when it became apparent that this was nothing more than a payday loan scam aimed at small business. How exactly will this serve me in terms of a loan consolidation? Quadruple the interest rate on my credit card? Maybe the math works for some sort of business that bears no resemblance to what I do for a living, but from my perspective this is no favor at all. I'd do much better to take that 0% cash advance for 18 months from the credit card and pay down both that loan and the credit card debt. That's a huge savings over what OnDeck "offers". Bear in mind that I am not a failing business, my credit score is 743, and I have a well established track record that suggests I am a good bet for any entity that wants to extend a loan. Given what I've heard from OnDeck, compared to the assorted five star reviews they've received here (which did influence my willingness to discuss a loan with them), I'd have to say most of the 5 star reviews are total spam from highly paid false review companies. That service is available to anyone willing to pay, and at a 67.5% return on investment, I figure OnDeck is able to hire the absolute best fake Yelp reviewers out there. Any legitimate small business should avoid this lender like the plague. read more

I was investigating options for our business. I was not even through reading the first page online, had never created a username or password when my phone rang. The guy on the other end of the line was overly familiar "Hey, can I talk to XXX" the conversation was no more professional from there. I called to have my number removed from calls. The lady could hear me fine until I asked to be removed then suddenly she could not hear me...after I smarted off and suddenly she could hear that just fine and hung up on me. From there, you'll get a high-pressure sales pitch, submit some documents and probably never be able to reach your "loan advisor" again. They do not answer calls or return emails.
