The date changed for my event so Hotels dot Com/now Expedia said if I book it for the new date and they canceled the original date I would receive my refund. That never happened and I ended up having to pay for two reservations with an additional $150 and loss my earned credits; nothing was ever refunded as repeatedly promised even after they canceled the original reservation!! My family and I will never book with them again. They are now corrupt with Expedia. I truly recommend only booking directly with the hotels, which is much safer and more professional!! I'd done a cruise before, but had never worked with a tour company---have always been an independent traveler abroad. But for this trip, since we were traveling with a kid to a place we'd never been and had limited knowledge of---and were traveling with another family too---it seemed like a good option. Silvia was lovely to work with, as was the rest of the PfL staff as we organized our trip. The trip had a lot of moving parts, and we had a lot of questions and edits and ideas, and everything came together beautifully. The trip itself (once we got there!---the airlines were problematic but that's not at all PfL's fault!) was absolutely seamless---I mean it. At the appointed times, we'd walk to our hotel lobbies and the tour vans were always either waiting or arriving a moment later, right on time. We never once had to wait or worry. Our private tour guides were outstanding---knowledgeable, friendly (I mean, to the point of buying us local snacks!), charming with our kids, and spoke English better than most Americans do. Special shout-outs to Fabricio (in the Sacred Valley and again in Cusco), Peter (at Machu Picchu) and David (for the food tour in Lima). (Also our guide to the water-light show in Lima, but I'm afraid I've lost his name.) Hiroshi at Inkaterra was also great. Airport transfers were a breeze, hotel check-ins were simple... Lauré quickly put my mind at ease - she knew exactly what she was doing. She took over the communications with the resort, helped us determine the appropriate size room block, and managed the room block throughout the process. Her insight was invaluable. I would have made so many missteps had it not been for her guidance - all the way down to how to word my invitations and website to get the best response from guests. Speaking of which, we were optimistically ball-parking around 80-90 guests and ended up with over 100, which I truly believe is a testament to how effectively Lauré communicated with everyone. Once guests sent an initial inquiry to Lauré, she followed up with them like clockwork and I heard from multiple friends how responsive she was and how straightforward and easy she made the booking process. Without a doubt, we would not have had anywhere near that headcount had we left it up to guests to book directly through the resort. I cannot emphasize enough how necessary Lauré's services are if you're planning a trip with a large group and would also like to maintain your sanity. Bottle feeding the kangaroo was so fun too- little Dundee was SO soft and loved all the pets, even gave us kisses! The giraffes were super friendly and greeted us every time we were nearby; feeding and getting quality time with them was an extra treat. The safari ride tour was also amazing- 5 of us fit comfortably and got to feed/see lots of animals that we wouldn't normally get to experience. We were surprised at how this place wasn't crowded at all in the middle of July when it is peak vacation season, so it really felt like we had the whole place to ourselves. They also have a beautiful main lodge area that is comfortable and welcoming with additional animals to enjoy.
