The lessons were catered to the level of the students in attendance, and he keeps an eye on everyone during warm ups, drills and rolls, engaging with his students by constructively critiquing all students (even the visitor!). I thoroughly enjoyed enjoyed the drills and class structure, and what all students brought to the rolls. Fundamentals are ingrained at JJBJJ, and it was a great experience! While I was traveling for work I wanted to find a place to train and saw that Impact was close to…read morethe hotel where I was staying. I had reached out to see if I could do a drop-in and was told that I'd be welcome. Impact's motto is 'Good People. Good Jiu-Jitsu,' and after having visited I wholeheartedly think they live up to it. Rob was teaching the class that evening which seemed to be a mix of experienced and some more experienced beginners and some folks who were had started more recently. He broke down the moves and techniques down enough to be well understood by all levels but still let a lot of time to get a lot of reps in. The evening I stopped in was a nogi class, which is a style I generally avoid because it's a lot of wear and tear on the body. I didn't feel as beat up as I thought I would be, not to say that it wasn't the fast paced game that nogi typically is. What's more there was a focus on stand up that most schools usually avoid. I'd definitely go back to ABQ for another drop in and if I ever end up in ABQ on a more permanent basis Impact would be the place to train.

So far...so good…read more I'm sure my scoring of this place will change as time goes on and I see the results with my kids. I asked...no hounded...my children's father to get them enrolled in Jiu Jitsu because my daughter was in it before and she loved it. This is the place he chose. First and foremost...Chaz is AWESOME. He helped me when I was struggling to learn the ropes from belt tying to what was up with the student cards. He's the best. Professor Wes, I think it is, is great as well. He's really good with the kids. He's firm but knows how to laugh with them as well when it's appropriate. He seems very kind and patient. He takes time with the parents as well which is important to me. The issues I have are that I've watched the kids sparring and although Professor Wes is in there, he can only watch so many at a time. It looks like there might be junior instructors in the classes as well so I think they help but I see these kids rolling without a lot of correction. I'm just wondering how they learn. I'm guessing that will come in time which is why I'm determined to get my kids there at least three times per week. I hate to sound like a skeptic because I'm not. I have watched this sport for years and love it. I hounded the children's father forever to do this so I am definitely a fan. Gracie Jiu Jitsu is world renowned so I'm expecting to see great results. I want to see my children grow, become more disciplined, more self aware but mostly, gain self esteem. Time will tell. The parking lot is weird. I feel like I'm going to get in an accident when I pull in but so far I haven't. I wish there wasn't a wall so I could see the kids better from the waiting area but whatever. We aren't supposed to interfere anyway. All in all, I have high hopes and I'm confident Gracie Barra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu will deliver.

I've never met a more competent and yet relaxed and fun team - and head instructor Justin Hall is fantastic. I really can't recommend him highly enough. BJJ, or any martial art, can be intimidating to start. Something a lot of us want to do, or dream about, but we're hesitant, maybe afraid to go in - remembering Cobra Kai from our youth in the Karate Kid. Well it's not like that at all. They're warm, welcoming, and fun. Justin exudes a confidence only born of competence, you see it in people who are great at what they do, whatever it is. Justin is the consummate teacher - patient, yet exacting. He knows his stuff, and he's not in this just for minting belts and making money. He in fact will limit the size of his school ultimately - so I'd get in now. There is no better place in NM. There may be other great facilities, but I can guarantee you that you will be happy you went here.
