Don't ever get a bad haircut at anyone of their salons or you will be banned for life. This is part of the Tricho conglomerate. Shady business I went here religiously for 1.5 years. I am going over seas for a month & could not get in due to scheduling conflicts on both ends. I was recommended to Tricho salon where they completely butchered my head. A pair of rusty garden sheers would have been better. I came to one one nine salon 2 times. The first time the lady who did my hair scratches my neck and made me bleed. The second time, I had Sierra, and she did an awful job. They did a good job, but the pricing is extremely unfair. A consultation itself is $20, you literally have to pay $20 just for them to talk about your hair. At most salons consultations are free. And if you don't, you go in without knowing the price which is extremely high for what I got done. Be careful, they charged me $60 for getting my hair blow dried and didn't even tell me. I could've gotten a whole balayage at a salon just as good for the same price I paid to dye just a strip of hair. Advice- make sure you find out the price somehow without paying the $20 for a consultation. After that, walk out of the salon with wet hair because it is not worth $60 to get it blow dried. I ended up paying $160 to dye just a STRIP of hair. With tip it was $180. My friend apparently paid an extra $60 for "leave in product". They also did not break down the pricing until I asked. read more

giving five stars because I don't want to leave a poor rating for the whole business over one person (not to mention i never write reviews) , but i tried making an appointment with Msberrydidmyblonde over DMs (as her page directs you to) and she took days on between each message and was very rude. When I gave up on getting an appointment and told her never mind (after ~3 weeks of trying to communicate with her), she did not care at all. Later on, when I found a different hairstylist and posted a picture of my hair done, she almost immediately blocked me on Instagram. I recently moved to Houston and was home for the holidays. I usually pay $300 for a balayage in Houston so I took advantage of being home to get my hair done. I searched Instagram for a stylist and found Ciara Berry as "msberrydidmyhair". She told me she had a few appointments available so I called the salon and scheduled an 11am appointment. I arrived at the salon at 10:50am and checked in. About 45 minutes later I was finally greeted by Ciara who seemed flustered. I had previously sent her pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like through Instagram so I was shocked when she told me she would not be able to get my hair that light. I asked if she could just give me a balayage and she agreed. She was being rude and my gut told me not to go through with the appointment but I gave her the benefit of the doubt. She later apologized for coming off as rude and I told her not to worry. She brought me back to her station and I noticed that my highlights were a coppery orange color. I asked her if she was going to tone them down. I've been getting my hair balayaged for years now and I've never had them come out that color before. She rudely told me she could not because it would take two visits for them to be the color I wanted and her next client was already there. I've never been so frustrated to the point of tears and the manager kindly asked another stylist to do a color correction on my hair that same day (she agreed that the color was not what I asked and we agreed on). Lauren ended up saving my hair in which seemed like a 15-20 minute tone and blow dry. It seemed so effortless on her part and she was so kind. I couldn't believe that that was all that it took for my balayage not to be orange. I love Lauren and highly recommend her! She even put treatments in my hair to help with the damage. When I went to check out the manager told me it would be $350 but that she would discount $125. I told her that was way too much and we negotiated on $200 pre tip. She gave me complementary mini purple shampoo which was nice. It's safe to say that I will not be back to one one nine and wanted to share my experience. read more

Came in for 2 balayage sessions in june and again in september with Brittany. I was told that the two sessions would get me to the blonde I want, or if not, then very close. Now, 4 months after my last session, I am left with the most disgusting, brassy colored blonde ever. And my hair is BEYOND dead and dry. I was so far from the color I wanted at the end of the last session, but I decided to just stick with it for a while for the health of my hair and the fact that I'd paid around 500$. To get the blonde I want would probably at this point be at least two more sessions, if I'd even have any hair left by then? Plus, my last session I was put in foils and the foils were left in my hair for like, 15 minutes??? I've never heard from anyone a process of lightening being this fast and my hair which wasn't what I wanted also was half grey in certain parts. I would have wrote this review sooner, but I decided to give the hair I had a shot. Basically now I am left with beyond dead hair the color of which I hate, even though I've been using proper hair treatment masques. If I don't use purple shampoo literally EVERY wash my hair is even a grosser color, and purple shamppo further dries your hair. Basically now I'm left with three options: pay even more $$$ to color my hair it's original color and cut a lot off, deal with it being gross, or continue paying way more $ than I expected to get where I want. Don't get me wrong: I always understood blonde is a process but I did NOT get the proper consult or even a strand test when I started and that could have saved me all this. Super unhappy. read more

I wanted to love this place, as it seems like just my style and similar to the one I used to go before I moved to Ann Arbor. I wanted to love it so much that I've seen two stylists here rather than going to another salon after it wasn't working with the first stylist I saw. But it's just not going to happen. The first stylist I saw always seemed overbooked or late. I'd typically wait at least 15 minutes if not more after my appointment time to see her. Then she'd be stressing and rushing to finish my balayage and cut while her next appointment was sitting there waiting. I ended up getting an uneven cut, the last time I saw her, because of this. I had to get it fixed a week later. Then, I tried a different stylist here, who "told me that" rather than "asked me if" I needed a treatment on my hair. I ended up spending $350 at that appointment. I am fine with paying $200-$250, but $350 is insane and I really didn't appreciate I was given a treatment really without my knowledge or agreement. Not to mention, I ended up with brassy, orange-looking highlights that weren't what I asked for. I'm going to have to find somewhere else to go, it seems. read more

Brittany Munker has been doing my hair for the last two years. She took me from a brassy orange dark brown to a perfect platinum. I literally get compliments on my hair color everyday saying 'that's the perfect blonde' She recently just took my mom from blonde to a brunette with an ombré, which is beautiful! I went in with brown hair, hoping to lighten it up to an ash color. I ended up leaving the salon with no difference. After the stylist bleached my hair, she ended up putting too dark of a color on and she had to try to remove it twice. But my hair was still too dark. Instead of continuing to try to help me, the stylist was just trying to push me out. It seems like they just care about the turn around and didn't care if the customer is happy, they just want them to leave after 2 hours. I'm so disappointed to have spent $300 here just to see no change. read more

I don't think I've ever had a stylist I've consistently returned to in my life, but I'll definitely be returning for my next hair cut. I wasn't even sure what I wanted going in to my appointment (was honestly between a trim or chopping about 6-7 inches off) and Tiffany talked me through the different options that would look good on me based on my face/hair type. Tiffany did a great job and even styled it with some loose waves after :) it's a bit pricier than some other salons in the area but except for one salon back in my college town, I have left all my other haircuts with a "meh" feeling afterward. It's also not outrageously expensive so I feel it was definitely worth it (~55+tip for a wash, cut, and blow dry). I went and enjoyed some summer beers with my fresh new haircut and felt like a 10/10 fabulous diva while getting a ton of compliments. Thanks Tiffany! read more

I have been to this salon once for cut and color. The style of the salon is very clean and trendy. Although, you will have to pay for parking. The girl that did my hair was nice, but I will not be back. I feel her skills not not match up with the expectation of being on trend. My hair looked worse after than it did before I came in, cut and color wise. I complained about the highlights being barely noticeable and my roots still quite extensive prior to leaving. The stylist was defensive. The cut was noticeably choppy and uneven once I styled my hair on my own. I don't mind paying a price for quality, but for what I got I paid well over triple its worth. Maybe other stylists are more advanced with on trend color, but I would be hesitant to make any recommendation here. read more

Will NEVER EVER go back here. I have been getting my hair done at the top salons NYC and Boston for the past 15 years and know my hair and how the process works. Upon moving to Ann Arbor, I had to start my search for a new place and at the time, was excited to try One One Nine. I have blonde highlights which I have been managing for the past 15 years and like clock work, get my hair re-highlighted every 10-12 weeks. I came here and saw Brittany and the first bad sign was she said it was going take less than 90 minutes to do my highlights, set, wash, tone, cut and blowdry. Just an FYI any legit salon, will take 75-90 minutes just for the highlighting/ setting portion of your cut. Sometimes longer. I have never been out of a hair salon in less than 3 hours until this experience. She rushed through doing my hair, which I didn't think was that bad of an issue (it is possible to move quickly and efficiently) but then she only had me sit with the highlights for less than 10 minutes to set. I even said "don't these need to set longer?" knowing that I usually sit at least 30 minutes once the highlights are in. She said no, and buzzed me through the rest of the process. When we were done, my hair looked highlighted so I naturally didn't say anything. The issue is that LESS THAN 3 weeks later, my roots were so dark it looked like I never had my hair done. The blonde had faded completely. I had family and friends asking me if I was going to get my hair done soon. When I told them I had just had it done a few weeks ago, everyone was stunned. It's not rocket science, you need to leave the highlights in to set. She definitely rushed and took them out way too early and as a result I've now had to go to another place TWICE in a row to repair this mess. All in all, I've paid $450 more to get my hair done properly. This has never happened to me and I know it was because of the technique of this salon. I warn you do not go here!!! read more

I really want to like this place. In fact, my first time there with a cut and color with Brandon was wonderful. He's thoughtful, attentive, and did a fantastic job. However, my experiences with the salon staff have been poor. I've had to reschedule 2 appointments in the last 3 weeks, both of which I drove nearly an hour from Detroit to be told that they don't have my name scheduled in their system. In response to this, they have been rude, dismissive, and not accommodating. I had better hopes for this salon, and hope that they are better able to serve customers in courteous, competent, and consistent ways. I recently had a perfectly well rounded experience here. This salon achieves the nearly impossible feat of being alluring, fashionable, and sophisticated without being intimidating or excluding. The staff is very kind, patient, and perceptive. This allows them to be more in tune with what kind of experience you're looking for and be able to tailor it accordingly (if possible). I had never been there before and needed a change, and was lucky enough to get booked with Brandon. He was very down to Earth, personable, and intuitive. I was a little nervous about going somewhere new, a little undecided on what I wanted, and hadn't had anything done to my hair in a while, all of which can make his job much harder! He was absolutely professional in his questioning and explanations in order to work with me to make a plan (which I loved!) This review isn't bad, it's just kind of hmmm, I've had better. My stylist was extremely sweet and obviously very qualified and I liked talking with her. I am objectively kind of just a plain Jane when it comes to my hair, so I sat down and told her that I always like a one-length cut with point cutting on the ends to very subtly take away some weight. Then, she tells me that she wants to thin out my hair at the bottoms with thinning shears and I am horrible at saying no, so I said sure and it actually doesn't look half bad, so that was an okay experience. I just hate when hairdressers automatically see a girl with thick hair and think she wants a ton of weight off of it, because I actually happen to like having really thick hair and if I don't say it's a problem before we start, I don't really want someone to low-key say I need to fit some kind of beauty standard that I'm not at. Then, she said I should get a treatment on it which I also said sure to because I always like my hair feeling good and she said I had some damage from my color which was fine I know my hair is a bit damaged. But then, we got to heat styling and steam was literally in billows around me and the whole salon smelled like burning hair. I didn't say anything because she didn't look alarmed, but I've gone to other salons where this never happens to my hair even though it's thick. My hair smelled burnt when I left and today after showering, my hair still smelled burnt. I think it's kinda weird that she told me my hair was compromised and then literally just burned it after giving me a treatment to help it. I'm seriously worried that my hair is super damaged and I don't even like heat styling my hair, I always air dry it anyways and actually prefer my hair with a little less pin-straight look. But, she didn't ask me how I wanted my hair styled she just made it super pin straight. Also, this is the most expensive cut I think I've ever had, $100 plus tip. And then, afterwards I felt pressured to make an appointment and also to get more soft layers the next time I come in, which I don't want. I like the cut I usually get and I'm not used to branching out. But the big problem is that my hair still smells burnt and it feels dry and I honestly think it's damaged even more now than when I came in. It felt all nice and soft after getting it done because it's a blow out and hair always feels soft after that, the real test is when I air dry at home. I've put a deep-conditioning hair mask and lots of leave-in hair oils and conditioners and it still feels dry. I'm sure a couple more deep-conditioning treatments should do wonders for my hair, but when I go to a salon in order to get a trim to maintain my length, I shouldn't have to go home and spend weeks repairing the damage of one blowout. Overall, I would not go back here again. I've had much better results from paying $45 plus tip for a hair cut and I think I'll stick to that. But, if you're someone who wants to get really artistic and have an interesting cut or let your stylist guide how they think your hair will look awesome, I think this could be the place for you. read more

Great experience! I recently relocated to Ann Arbor from the DC area and was in desperate need of finding a salon in town. I have had my fair share of salon nightmares and am super picky when it comes to finding a new stylist. I couldn't help but notice the positive reviews for this salon, so I called on a Saturday morning and was able to book a same day appointment with Brandon. I had a full highlight and cut. My experience from start to finish was fantastic! From reception, to the consult, and then the finished product--everything was great! The salon is super clean and you can tell that the staff and stylists truly care about the success of their salon. To me, that speaks volumes! For anyone out there looking for a new salon, this is it!! My service was about two weeks ago and I couldn't help but feel guilty that I hadn't taken the time to write a review--these guys definitely deserve it! This place is terrific and should become the primary go to salon in Ann Arbor and here's why: the folks here are the opposite of pretentious. Unlike a lot of places, they don't make you feel lame in the LEAST. They are open, friendly, kind and humorous even though they are also stylish. You don't have to be a snob to be stylish, apparently. So it is very welcoming. They are also very creative and open to co-creating what you want. They can do it all and really cater to your vision even when your not sure what it is. I've had places get annoyed when I can't describe what I want. Here, they just talk it through with you until you find it. The atmosphere is also kind of homey instead of all sterile like a sci-fi movie. People are talking and laughing and you don't feel judged. I've had stuff done by Chris and Justin and they are both marvelous, tremendous stylists. So sweet and open and skilled. They didn't make me feel rushed at all and made sure I got what I wanted. Justin colored my hair for the first time in my life and kind of guided me through the transition. He even stayed late to do it. Chris also made me feel at home with who I am and helped me feel pretty. The people at the front desk are also just super welcoming. And it's also very affordable. Basically, you are getting professional, high high quality stylists in a non-pretentious, friendly atmosphere at an affordable price. Maybe I sound like I work there, but I assure you, this was my actual experience. Many of you may know that these are a lot of the people who left Vox and decided to start their own place in their own image, and they've done it. So you get the best stylists in Ann Arbor in a colorful, easygoing setting. I highly recommend it. Just don't drive the prices up too fast!!! read more
