After exploring castles in Dumbarton and Stirling all day, my partner and I were a) exhausted, b) famished, c) all of the above. Not bothered to explore Glasgow for somewhere to eat, we decided to stay close to our hotel by trying the hotel restaurant. The dining area was closed but we were able to enjoy the Pre-Theatre Menu in the adjacent bar.
Props to One Ten for having veg (read: not vegan) options on its menu. We each started with toasted brie on onion focaccia atop arugula (what you UK folks call rocket. Rocket! Imagine). The portion was neither too big nor too wee (small), but just right. Our main meal was a risotto cake atop a ragout of peppers and courgettes (zucchini). The risotto cake had a bit more oil than I would have preferred, but it also did a great job absorbing the wonderful flavors on the plate.
For dessert, we each tried something different. I had the mixed berries on cake, and my partner had the blueberry cheesecake. He definitely lucked out with the better dessert choice.
The wine selection is decent, personally I'm not a fan of wines from Chile or South Africa as they tend to lack the full body of a French or Austrian wine.
The bar space is very relaxed, so you needn't worry about dressing to the nines for dinner. Come as you are, enjoy the pre-theatre menu, and take in a bit of people watching outside One Ten. read more
