Lunch Quickie with Shallot Mussels, fries and a drink all for £7.95. YUM!!
    Megan O.

Yum. Yum. And Yum. Popped in here for the "Lunch Quickie" pre-set menu on the recommendation of a coworker--SO glad I did. I ordered the mussels (shallots version, that comes swimming in a divine broth made up of shallots, garlic and cream *drool*), side of fries and a soda--all for only £7.95. It also comes with a side helping of bread to indulge in that heavenly sauce when all your perfect mussels have been devoured. The rest of the menu, including the specials of the days looked equally delicious, but I couldn't pass up on the classic lunch menu. Service was prompt and friendly and I will definitely be returning anytime I find myself again in Glasgow for work! Highly recommended! Enjoy!

Seafood, eat food. It is difficult to describe the rapture of dipping your bread into leftover musselsauce after you've shoved half a kilo of mollusc into your gob. I'd heartily recommend this joint for bargain seafood. The staff are lovely and the food is top notch. Be sure to order with blue cheese sauce for best results. Bravo!

Lunch special...runs on the weekends too

Came in on a Wednesday afternoon after strolling down Buchanan Street. I ordered the lunch special And got mussels, a salad, and a drink all for £7.95. My server accidentally brought me chips so I stole one just to give it a try. Eh, was happy to have ordered the salad packed with cherry tomatoes, peppers, and red onions. Mussels were steamed perfectly, no over cooked rubbery bits. They generously give you a basket of bread for your soaking pleasure.

They were very nice on the phone and said no reservation needed that day and casual was fine. The space is really nice and classy as it says. The staff were all super nice!! Now the food, two of us had the Cote de something, basically a bone in ribeye. Talk about amazing!!! You could cut it with a fork, no kidding!!! No knife needed!! The garlic butter with it was not needed, but was also amazing, dipped my mashed potatoes in it. It isn't cheap nor overly priced, but for the classy place and the excellent meat and service it was worth it!!! I would rate this steak too 5 maybe top 3 all time!!! Waiter spent a great deal of time talking to us just as if we known him for a long time it was great. the level of friendliness and hospitality was very impressive. The menu is very nice and not expensive at all. TRUFFLED BRIOCHE- The dish is amazing even though I did not taste any truffle but there was a entire truffle mushroom itself there, the plate they presented it in was annoying to rest the silverware, was a bowl type of plate and the fork kept falling in lol GOLDEN BREEZE- the drink was suggested by our waiter and it was amazing cudos to him! GNOCCHI- WHAT an unfortunate plate. This was to me not a gnocchi.i love the fact that our waited noticed and made sure to ask me if everything was ok with my choice, that shows that the staff cares about customer service. The gnocchi was blend and tasteless it to me was more of a polenta and not a gnocchi it was cooked pan fried and not like a past should so it was not a great plate definitely not a gnocchi. I would definitely recommend the place, not the gnocchi but the place was pretty nice. come and have a try!

I also highly recommend the mussels. We tried the gin slow fizz , which was incredible, and I highly recommend it. However, while the food was good it wasn't very memorable except for the gin fizz and the Eton mess. I would also say that the wait staff was incredibly good with us except for one person who was a little pushy. They came over and described the drinks, helped us with recommendations on size and portions and were on top of our table for refills on bread and water. Probably would recommend this place for booze and dessert. Its in Merchant City so when you're in the area, good stop to have a client dinner or drinks with a friend at the bar. The interior is classy and dark and has an "old money" feel in a good way. It's downstairs and you feel like you are entering somewhere secret and discrete. The only bad thing is they had the heat cranked UP when we went. It was so hot down there I didn't know how some of the staff were running around in long sleeves, I had to keep going outside to get some nice chilly air to take a break from all the heat. The food was 5 stars but the heat did make the experience not pleasant. Spring White Negroni: Gin, white vermouth, limoncello. Nice, cool, and refreshing in that hot, hot dining area, lol. New Style Sashimi: Salmon, bass, and scallops. Basically a crudo topped with furikake and slices of ginger. We thought this was overly sauced and a very unjapanese way to eat Sashimi so it was too far of a departure for us. Local Lindisframe Rock Oysters: Excellent, sweet and not too large, these you have to eat fast because of the heat. You can see the ice melting and fusing in the picture and I took that picture as soon as it was brought out! King Prawn Noodle Salad: This was SO good, our whole family loved it. If we come back we would definitely order this again. Wild Halibut with cabbage, peas, pancetta, and charred asparagus. Perfectly cooked but the sauce was too rich and creamy for us. Fish Soup: crabmeat, ginger, and prawn dumplings. Good bowl, would taste better on a cold day.

The standard of the food is outstanding, the service is impeccable, they have a small but select wine list and a good cocktail menu. All in a relaxed and not overcrowded atmosphere. It's been too long since we'd visited, but it was just as good as we remembered. I had the tuna sashimi to start - which unexpectedly came with chopsticks - while Herself went for the tuna tartare. Both absolutely delicious, melt-in-the-mouth good. For mains, it was the halibut and scallops for her; I tried the monkfish, although with some slight trepidation over the banana, green lentil and chickpea sauce. I needn't have worried though, it wasn't a very strong curry and actually worked really well with the monkfish and the haddock. Just enough room to squeeze in a dairy-free sorbet for me - they had a lovely cucumber sorbet that was served with the tuna tartare, so I tried that. Herself can never resist a good cheese board, and this one was good (so I'm told). All in all, a fantastic meal. So good that I completely forgot to take any pictures. The sad news is that Derek, the owner is apparently planning to retire and is looking for someone to take over the business, so my advice is to get in there quickly before he's gone. Oh - and they have Derek's Gamba cook books on sale, £20 each or two for £30. If you ask nicely, you may even get them autographed!

The name of the restaurant was in sideways vertical lettering on the building face. Making my way in the entrance, a host greeted me and took me to an open table. The dinner rush at that time was small, and I looked over the menu. I went with fried haddock, hand-cut baked/fried chips, small white orbs of pickled onions, and tartar sauce. For my beverage I went with water with lemon in it. Prices were excellent (for example the pickled onions were less than one pound) and the servings were very large, I was happy I was hungry. The fish was perfectly flaky and fried to a golden perfection. The tartar sauce was thick and flavorful and the fries not too crispy nor soggy. They were especially good dipped in the tartar sauce. The restrooms were marked by gender - male and female. I felt more at home with those terms than I did the terms man and woman used back in the United States of America. Since we were not hungry, we shared the £13 set which came with a starter and an entree. We love to try weird foods so we selected pigeon. It was fantastic. The pigeon reminded me of liver because it was was tender, chewy, and gamy. The only difference was the texture because liver is more grainy. I loved the combination of the slightly sweet cherry sauce and crunchy peanuts. As for the entree, we chose lamb stuffed with haggis. It was extremely succulent and out of this world. I appreciated that none of these dishes came with bread. Don't get me wrong, bread is amazing but I felt so bloated because sandwiches are everywhere. It was refreshing to have an Atkins diet sort of meal. Also the two generous glasses of wine definitely tied things together. Unfortunately, all good things come to an end because the dessert was anticlimactic. We ordered a cheese dish and vanilla ice cream. The cheese dish came with two cheese wedges, grapes, assorted crackers, and jam. I was not blown away. Also, since the ice cream was icy and not creamy, it reminded me of the $1 McDonald cones...which I love but was expecting more. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore).
