Best Lebanese bakery I've tried in Melbourne, and I've definitely tried a few! Great coffee, great prices and great service.

The Cake Box is responsible for my obsession with custard…read more Dad worked nearby and would bring home custard donuts from here as a special treat. They were amazing! And pretty much diabetes inducing. Fast forward 15 years and The Cake Box and my love of custard is still going strong. The Cake Box is family owned and has been in business for over 30 years. They provide the Lalor community with high quality wedding, birthday and special occasion cakes, continental biscuits and sweets, coffee & gourmet snacks and even catering. Last year I worked in Lalor and I rediscovered this European bakery. I would drop by for a coffee and to get a sandwich and the staff were always genuine, friendly and fast. I suspect The Cake Box will succeed for another 30 years.

When trying to address this on the day of pickup the owner was not at all interested and I was asked to call Monday as she was to busy making other orders. When we cut the cake we realised it wasn't even what we ordered and was extremely hard...we did not serve the cake.. raising it again on the Monday we were asked to take the cake in which we did. The owner and "pastry chef" humiliated my mother by laughing at her. Terrible cake, terrible service and i will be taking this further as no one deserves to be humiliated! !!

Be VERY aware of being ripped off at this business. This was our third visit and EVERY time we have…read morebeen overcharged. The first time $8 for a sandwich we were told was $6, the second time we were charged $15.60 for two vegetarian pies when the sign says they are $6.80 each making the total $13.60 and today we were overcharged $2 AGAIN on a donut. The same woman has overcharged us each time, short blond hair in her 60's who actually spends most of her time leaning against the counter talking to customers she obviously knows rather than actually working. Today she stood and continued her conversation with one man for around 5 minutes while we waited. We also noted that she handed him his food but he did not appear to have paid??? Is that how it works, someone she knows is given products while other customers are overcharged to make up the shortfall? We said nothing the first couple of times thinking it was a small amount and possibly a genuine mistake in a busy business but then again today we realise this is intentional. This is a very busy business, if they serve 100 customers per day and add on $2 each that's an extra $200 in clear profit per day, 5 days a week that's an extra $1000, per month $4000 and in a year $48 000. Most people won't notice a small extra charge or when walking off just let it go, but this business is ripping people off. Possibly a case for notifying Consumer Affairs. Treat your customers with respect or you will lose them.

I recommend the dusted sponge cake. Highly recommend actually…read more It is a simple, light sponge. Filled with cream and a little strawberry jam. Dusted with icing sugar. This for only $7. Someone from work shared with me. Now I'm sharing with you. If you like cake and appreciate simple and yum things ... TRY THIS CAKE. The shop looks very dated and old school and I like that. I haven't tried anything else here as yet. But I will keep coming back for the dusted sponge!

Sweet by Nature supplies a lot of cafes and restaurants around town, so it's likely that you've had…read moretheir creation once or twice. They have a cafe at this site where they make their cakes, and you can purchase a mix box of around 6 individual cakes for around $10 - they're the ones who don't make it to the cafes or they are 'not quite pretty enough' to be sold individually - well could've fooled me they're ALL so pretty. If you're on a tighter budget, get the off-cuts slices $6.50 for a tray that will feed your whole (small) office. There is a great variety of full price cakes and slices but you have to call in to see what slices are on 'sale' that day.
