For the longest time, I remember Hellas being a dusty (small) shopfront, mostly obscured by a frilly doily curtain. They were only open at odd, seemingly random hours. So I'd only get to visit when my passing and they being open was coincidental. Inside would be a warm, saccharine honey smell. Along with a stunning array of Greek pastries. I'm a big fan of the Baklava, but there are many, many more. The semolina slice often gets a look in. Now Hellas has expanded, engulfing the double-front to become a full cafe. Fortunately the sweet smell and pastries remain. In addition is a quite respectable cafe menu. You'll find your usual eggs, but also a lot of Greek and Greek-inspired variations. Cured Salmon, Spanakopita and the like. So why four stars? They definitely get +1 for free wifi and great service.. But it's a small, but important item. I'm simply not a fan of their coffee. It's not bad, just not to my taste. It's your robust "stand your spoon in it" or "drop a cube of sugar in it and watch it melt" style off coffee (to my arabica palette anyway). Definitely the place to go if you're ever in the mood for a delicious, honey, sesame sugar rush.

All the breads are baked on location and are absolutely delicious fresh or toasted the next day. There is a list of ingredients above on chalkboard so you know exactly what is in the breads. The prices are not listed which would be very handy but the loaves seem to be around $6 or $7 each. Pricey yes but you get what you pay for. Especially considering a loaf of mass produced bread in the supermarket can be almost the same price. The girls serving are lovely and friendly. Parking is easy right on the street out front. I didn't realise how new this place was, but I have to admit, even if the pickings were sparse, they were delicious. We decided upon some croissants (both plain and chocolate) and a muffin, along with a few hot chocolates and coffees. The guys that are working like crazy behind the counter are friendly and you can tell they are well invested in the place. If you are on in the area, stop by here and taste the goods, you won't be disappointed.

Great brekkie staples one would expect to find in a South Melbourne cafe. We also took away some cakes... The cake display cabinet was a work of art! And unlike other popular hole in the wall brunch locations, chez dre has a huge space, both indoors and outdoors. Pandan croissant and pandan flan were our favorites. They were not too sweet. The croissant was nice and flaky. Flan was so smooth... I could've eaten another one and not regret it. Definitely go early if you can because the lines do get long and you can tell with all stanchions set up in front of the bakery. It's crowded, it's loud, but it's all part of the wonderful morning market experience. There is some seating (for 6-7 people) on the side, but I wouldn't count on the bench being available all the time. I would continue exploring the public market with a pastry in hand.

Oh my this place is wonderful! We popped down before 9am on a Sunday morning to grab a quick…read morebreakfast and some baked goods. It was already full by this stage and had a constant stream of locals grabbing donuts for the morning. We ordered a ham and cheese croissant, egg and bacon bun and a coffee. The coffee was fantastic. Could not fault. The bun and croissant were delicious, the scramble in the bun was especially good. We sat was a little watching the steady stream come and go before grabbing some take away baked goods. We got all 3 donuts flavours with the favourite being hot cross bun donut. Donut dough with sultanas and filled with custard. Amazing! We also grabbed a choc chip marshmallow cookie. The size of my hand and absolutely delicious. I could live off these! Moderate room inside to sit and a few tables out. All the food is able to be taken away and it also runs as a standard bakery with beautiful artisan breads. We will definitely be back soon and it's now our go to place to pick up treats when visitors come over.

It's then near impossible to change trajectory as I step straight off the escalator and into Breadtop and am propelled by forces beyond my control, tongs in hand, ready to fill my Breadtop plastic tray with all manner of naughty things. I usually end up with at least one each of the tuna roll, the spring onion and mayo/cream cheese roll, a donut twist and an almond croissant. These are my tried and tested winners. For now.

Breadtop is an Asian bakery that is here to impress, popular amongst some... it is some interesting cuisine at first glance... You have savoury items such as the Sacha Pork Floss Bun and Chicken Puff but whats more appealing is the sweet stuff, Milky custard buns and my favourite the 'blueberry yogurt bun'. Yum! They have a large assortment of sweets that won't set you back too much, the cakes presentation wise are glamorous and available for purchase. They focus mainly on fruit as a decorative resource which adds a lot of colour to their cakes but after laying eyes on the ice-cream cake (ice-cream scoops toppled one atop of another in the form of a giant cake), i know where im getting my next birthday cake!

All the small cakes: eclairs, bignet, cannoli, babas, etc sell for $1.50 a piece.. The larger versions, $2.50 a piece.. All biscotti, including macarons, $30 kg.. The whole cakes - continental and ice-cream - start at $20 and go right up to whatever.. I spent $85 in 5 minutes - could have spent heaps... Such an amazing place, filled with Italian heritage Australians, all there to buy nostalgia - Christmas, Easter, Christenings, Weddings et al - divinely delicious stuff in a white box... Absolutely the 'go to' destination for next time you're invited to some-one's home, and want to take that something that will both impress and delight... Honestly... Visited Saturday 27 Feb for a cake, as a gift, and stuff to take home.
