I'm so happy to have my new Izzy office furniture! yes, as noted One Work Place (OWP) does work with the big tech companies, hospitals, schools, etc. so I realized going in that I was small fry & appreciated the help. They aren't really set up to help the small home office folks but if one is willing to do some of their own research up front, balanced with a bit of patience, I do think this company is worth checking out due to the great showroom, insight & product selection from budget to high end. Trust me I did a lot of research looking for other options. Donna M. was extremely patient with my inquiries & providing me samples of finishes. I was making a small investment in home office furniture & wanted to make sure I was choosing the right pieces especially since I'm in my office 10+ hrs a day at times; I decided not to cheap out knowing I'd only be back furniture shopping in a couple of years. Donna created a layout based off my home office measurements to confirm what I was evaluating would work. After much obsessing I ended up purchasing Izzy furniture sight unseen (with no samples at that!!) since OWP did not have this line on display. Donna assured me it was a quality product & she was right! The phone number routed to voice mail after exactly 2 rings, and the recording asked to leave a message. I left my name and number and never got a call back. Called back to check again the next week, same story. Several weeks later, after visiting some other stores, I called them again and someone picked up. The person I spoke to seemed to be in charge of the business, and she transferred my call to one of the showroom representatives -- later, I learned there's a team of about 3 people who sit and chat with each other near the front door all day, and if they feel like it they will pick up the phone to answer a call (only if they decide to take a break from joking around). They sound like management, but are actually the company's secretaries. Eventually did manage to set up a meeting with a rep; although the inside looks very clean and "Google-y" (lots of bright primary colors) and they portray an attitude that most young tech start-ups like, the people working there themselves were clearly just doing their job and trying to *sound* smart, hoping you will take them at face-value and buy lots of stuff from them. They try to sound helpful, they just were not. They are there to sell you a chair, any chair, and convince you it is the chair you want. If you want a better chair that fits you right, and they are unable to convince you that the chair they are trying to sell you is the "perfect" one for you when it's clearly too big or too deep, they quickly show you the door. Pros: - nice interior gives you a small taste of how Google is decorated on the inside Cons: - focused on convincing you to buy a chair even if it's a bad fit for you - uninterested in doing business when they understand they're unable to convince a customer that a bad-fitting chair is the "perfect" chair for that customer - difficult to get any service unless you sound like you are from a tech start-up with loads of money to give them! (luckily, it's easy to look like you're from a start-up -- just wear jeans & a Google t-shirt) Here's a hint: pretend to sound like you are from a tech start-up, or from Google or Apple -- that makes them very happy to talk to you. Their goal is to convince you that "most" employees will like the chair they're trying to sell you (even if you dislike the chair and if "most" employees would actually hate the chair). If you are shopping for your fellow employees, I highly recommend bringing a few of them with you to actually see if they like the chair, rather than just believing One Workplace (whose goal is to sell as many chairs as possible regardless of whether your employees like those chairs). read more

VERY Disappointing! Called and asked for assistance in setting up our new office with used cubicles and some free standing desks. Took two days and a follow up call by me to get to talk to someone. That should have sent me running. I talked to a sales person (Marta) who had this odd hesitation in answering my questions. I asked her if there was some problem, that she seemed hesitant. She sighed no and that she would get back to me. I finally heard back by email that they did not have anything used that would work but that she could sell me some new furniture. I decided to move on to other vendors and see if I could find used. I did not like anything available in used... so I decided to buy new after all. I had two bids from other vendors and decided to go back to Marta to see what the price would be from One Workplace. I gave her specifics, very easy request to bid on because I had done the research and knew what I wanted. I got an email back from her saying "I think we will pass". I suppose $3000 of furniture is not a big enough sale for them. read more

I dealt with their SF office before and had good experience. But their San Jose office is horrible! I called so many times, on multiple days, over the spans of 3 months. I left multiple messages to multiple sales reps. NO ONE calls me back! Hello.....???? does people actually work in this office? They are missing out on a big sales with my company. read more

an awesome showroom that showcases all sorts of creative space planning that is integrated with different finishes and types of furniture and set ups for office spaces. there are so many possibilities within this huge space, and they've planned spaces such as google, ebay, kaiser... just a few names to throw out there... i've not personally used them as a service, but as a student on a tour of their showroom for a class, they were very professional and proud to do what they do, and knowledgable enough to inspire even a student to gain interest in commercial design... you have to check out their showroom! read more

If there was a negative star, I would choose this. They were hired to furnish our school. They did NOT deliver on time (summer). Rolled out furniture at the start of the school year. Furniture was not assembled and school district hired a 3rd party to complete assembly. Some classes are still missing parts and furniture. It is now November 19. POOR CUSTOMER SERIVCE read more

One Work Place has utterly failed and I will not be working with them anymore... Yes, they have an awesome showroom with tons of cool options and products. However, don't bother if you are are planning something for a residential home office! I too was enamered by their showroom and was really looking forward to designing a home office and working with One Work Place in Milpitas. However, right after the showroom tour, it got ugly, FAST! First of all, the designer assigned to me was terrible. She didn't listen to anything I said, and kept steering me away to cheap, ugly products. I kept having to remind her that I have a high budget and I'm looking for QUALITY, DESIGNER materials, and I fully understand that it is going to cost a substantial amount of money. She also couldn't even read/remember her own notes during the nearly 2 hour discussion about options, design, my needs, and what my workflow on any typical day is like. It was extremely frustrating have to repeat myself 3, 4, 5 or even more times to get the information across, or to tell her yet again, "no I don't want that". I'd even have to continue to point out on the design notes, that were written by her, that the answer to her question was already answered and "right there on the drawing"... After leaving, feeling barely satisfied with the overall experience, I was still a bit excited and hopeful that maybe she'd actually get it right, or at least close to it. One week passes and I get an estimate minus the drawings. I then immediately noticed that the estimate didn't sound right at all. All the measurements were completely wrong even though I brought a SCALE DRAWING OF THE ROOM WITH MEASUREMENTS along with me to use for note taking, and left her with multiple copies. At this point, I'm starting to get really frustrated, but gave them the benefit of the doubt and continued to wait for the drawings to see if maybe I was just misinterpreting the barely coheirent jibber-jabber written in the estimate. Oh boy was I ever wrong! The drawings showed that the foul state of my estimate was even worse then I could ever imagined!!! ANY designer with even the slightest clue would have immediately noticed that there was NOWHERE TO SIT AND WORK at this "home office". She even got ALL of the important things wrong that I made absolutely clear during the first design meeting!! ARGH! I can name a ton of other things that were wrong with the design, but I'll forego that to keep this review to a resonable size... So after reviwing the drawings, I immediately called the sales manager and very kindly asked him if I could work with someone else because I just wasn't able to get my point across and I'm not comfortable working with a designer that can't see eye to eye with me. He said he'd "work on it"... Another week passes and I get a callback from the original sales woman asking me to come in for a follow-up. I kindly dismissed her saying I was too busy at the time, and immediately called her manager. Her manager, basically said he did nothing because "he didn't have my phone number to call me back". Hmmmmm, the sales woman has my number and was able to contact me just fine, and he KNOWS who I was working with... That's a sorry excuse in my book... But OK, whatever... moving on, I asked him if he could just please get me someone I can work with. He then went on and on about how they mostly do commercial and don't have many residential sales reps. It then was getting pretty clear to me that this was a bad idea, so I even gave him a clear way out saying, "If you are more commercial and you don't have or can't support a residential install, then just tell me now and I'll move onto other vendors". He didn't take the out and said he would do everything he can to find me a sales rep to continue with my design. It's been 2 weeks now and I have not heard back from them, and really don't care to at this point. So again, if you are looking for a custom residential home office, DO NOT work with One Work Place! There are plenty of other COMPETENT custom furniture/cabinet places out there, who I'm now working with and haven't had the slightest problems with. I'm happy to say that I'm very close to finalizing the design and starting the manufacturing process in just a matter of DAYS and one short office visit, versus the weeks of wasted time, frustation, and ZERO progress I made with One Work Place. read more

Steelcase referred me here to have my chair repaired under warranty. It was not easy to get ahold of someone for help. Phone calls usually went to voicemail. Once I reached the service dept, I was able to get the repair process in motion by sending a picture and describing the problem. A serviceman showed up with no notice a couple of weeks afterward and repaired my chair in a few minutes. I am glad that I did not have to haul my chair to their store. read more

My company used One Workplace to outfit our small offices in San Francisco. We have a VERY standard set-up, with 4 cubicles in the middle as well offices and conference rooms all along the outside. Nothing complex or custom in any way. We made the order in December and received an estimated completion date in January. It's June now, and we still have missing pieces and incomplete cubicles. Not only have there been incorrect pieces every time they try to finish installation of the job, the customer rep becomes defensive when confronted about it. It's been a very disappointing process. Our company is moving to a larger building in the next year and we would never consider using them again as its been disrupting to business practice as well as huge waste of time coordinating and rescheduling install dates every month to attempt to finish the job. I've made two purchases with One Workplace for my home office and I've been very satisfied with my experience with them. Since I was only buying equipment for myself, I was expecting to not be at the top of their priority list since they seem to be geared toward supplying larger companies. However, they've always been very prompt and professional with me and I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of attention and time they gave me. I had a warranty issue with the desk a few months after purchase and they helped get me in contact with the manufacturer to get the problem addressed. They even followed up to see if it had been addressed and re-contacted the manufacturer when it hadn't. I do believe that they have more pull with the manufacturing company than I did, so that was helpful. Their prices were competitive to what I was able to find online for the same products, so I was glad to buy from a local company and have the local support for what was a big purchase for me. read more
