They give you no receipt when you drop your equipment off. Then when you call on the promised finish date, they have NO idea what you are talking about....then, "oh yeah, I'll look at that soon". They do not call you when your repair is done. You have to keep calling them, leaving messages that go unreturned until you finally catch one of them. In my case it was the son who has the business personality of a disgruntled bear. You should NOT feel intrusive when paying for a service! Long, painful story short - after repeated attempts to check the status of a tune-up and having no success, I went to pick my equipment up and was presented a bill for repairs I did not authorize and they would not guarantee. I refused to pay for more than the tune-up and they said that they will sell my equipment to someone who may have a running mower "once or twice". I was more than willing to pay for a tune-up and any small repair necessary since I was donating this mower to someone in need. Beware! SHADY way of doing business. No return calls, no guarantees that they will even look at your equipment, no customer service, NO HONESTY

Town and Country Lawn and Garden offers no such support and actually made it considerably more difficult on me to get product defects dealt with and addressed. I recently moved to the area, decided to check out Town and Country as they were the local power equipment dealer. Within days of learning of their existence I purchased a $600 Stihl chainsaw from them. There were some red-flags during the purchase process, notably they had to get a tech from the back to even sell me the chainsaw. The tech also kind of threw out cliche phrases and some outdated preconceptions about the m-tronic feature of the saws I was looking at. Still, I decided to go through with the purchase. Right out of the box the saw gave me issues, demonstrating well-documented hot start issues. I battled the saw for 6 days in the woods trying to work through the issue, resetting the "computer" and trying different starting and cool down. procedures. After exhausting all avenues at home I begrudgingly brought it back to the dealer, abandoning the work at home I needed to get done. The lady at the counter was immediately defensive offered zero reassurance that they'd get me taken care of on this $600 saw I bought from them less than a week prior and yet to get a single day of proper use from. She brought a different tech out from the back to hear about the things Id try and the exact symptoms I'd experienced. I was VERY careful to explain the exact way to replicate the problem reliably. I didn't want to get a phone call a week later saying the saw "worked fine for them". Long story short, they failed to fix it. They initially misdiagnosed it, blamed Stihl for sending the wrong part and even at one point tried to put an outdated version of the m-tronic control unit on the saw and give it back to me. That plot was thwarted when the Tech Supervisor at Stihl realized I knew the difference and would be able to tell they put the wrong part on. All the while, Town-Country never called me to update me. I had to either call them, or call Stihl to get updates. T&C actually told me at one point they simply did not have the time to call their customers with updates. That's really all you need to know about this place. Eventually Stihl asked Town-Country to refund me so they could get the saw back to R&D to figure out what was wrong. I decided to roll the dice on another Stihl, and bought the same saw from another dealer a little further away. That dealer has been much better to deal with and I've already bought several more Stihl products from them without issue. Avoid Town & Country if you value your time and money. I can only imagine the headaches you'd have with them if you bought a tractor or bigger piece of equipment.

You guessed it. Wrong bagger. If you have an older model cub cadet (mine is 2009), the current model bagger won't go on. Instead of going back to town-country, I phoned cub cadet, they are sending me the correct parts for free -- not paying for shipping either. Kudos to cub cadet. In the end, I got the problem fixed free, but the delays, the time on the phone, the rudeness of the town - country employee, etc. are the reasons I give only two stars. I don't even know what I'm giving them two stars. I had a lengthy discussion with this T-C employee about whether the bagger he was selling me was the correct one, he assumed I needed it installed by them instead of me installing it myself (it's an easy install), whether I knew the year of my tractor...he was very condescending/rude and he treated me like I was ignorant. Be ready for that too, ladies (there were other men in the store and he had a distinctively different communication style with the men than he had with me). Next time I need parts or accessories for my cub cadet I will go to a different distributor.

The work is only done by the two business owners. Engine was a BMW S54 from a 2004 M3. I called several shops and one told me that he would not touch my engine for $1 million dollars. Another was too busy and a third shop hung up on me. I choose ICS because Bob spent time discussing their work on the phone. I drove almost 2 hours to Pittsburgh and Bob explained their process for 30 minutes and showed me the blown head gasket that caused the low compression in the cylinders. I explained my budget to Bob. So, he called after he accessed the engine to provide the options and prices for the head, crank, and block but I was not sure about the valve job because of my budget. Therefore, Bob tested the head for leaks and called me back and told me that the head did not currently need a valve job. I decided not to do the valves but changed my mind within 24 hours because I was not sure how long the valve seats would last on a head with 186,000 miles. Bob reduced the price of the valve job by at least 25% from the quoted price. AFTER I RECEIVED THE ENGINE FROM ICS I told Bob that the piston rings from online retailers were expensive at $732 - $834. So, I ordered racing pistons with the rings from an online retailer for $823 and Bob told me that I would not be happy with pistons containing 2618 alloy. Therefore, I canceled the online order and Bob ordered the rings for me at only $107. The correct rings for the engine were sent but they did not meet the specs. So, he provided a refund and spent 90 minutes on Hastings's website searching for the correct piston rings. Bob asked his distributor about NPR rings after I told him that I found NPR rings in England. Unfortunately, I had to purchase the rings in Europe because NPR USA does not manufacture the rings. My bank is an hour and half drive from my location but the bank is close to ICS. So, Bob offered to deposit the check for the piston-rings refund at the bank on his drive home. Additionally, Bob spent over 2 hours on the phone, at least 2 hours attempting to find piston rings to save me money, and at least 1 - 2 hours replying to my emails for no charge. I also heard about an instance when Bob drove 45 minutes to help someone after they installed their engine. Bob determined that the issue was the newly rebuilt carburetor from a different company. So, he called a friend who is a carburetor expert who fixed the carburetor for free. ICS Automotive Machines in Pittsburgh does great and honest machine work at a fair price but I wanted to show that they care about others, will do their best to keep the cost within budget, and go out of their way to help others.

He replaced parts that were missing and/or severely damaged and assured us our machine is in good shape otherwise -- this was good to know because it came with our house and we weren't sure the age/condition of it. I will say I was surprised that we didn't receive a quote for the repairs needed, just a bill when the work was complete. This might have been due to parts breaking as the technician looked at our machine, but next time I'd ask for an estimate before agreeing to work.
