High interest rates. Even after you pay off your loan, they still harass you to open another one.

I have a secured loan and the collateral broke down and is not worth repairing, and my branch basically told me I'm on my own, they can't do anything for me. Can't even refinance into an unsecured loan. Can't take the value of the car off the loan when the car would have been paid off a long time ago. They're willing to give you money but when you need help or something happens, don't bother reaching out to them! Wouldn't recommend going through OneMain even if you're desperate, don't make the same mistake I did. All they will do is put you in debt and when you start struggling or something happens to your car that they now have a lien on, you'll be out of luck too! I have paid them so so so much money over the years and they have literally done nothing for me as a customer. They're useless. I'm aware how loans and credit work, the point is every worker I've dealt with is useless and the East Amherst branch is unwilling to help long term customers, and they just make excuses. It's just not how you treat loyal customers. This may sound like I'm exaggerating but I'm not. The lady I spoke to on the phone could do nothing for me, the manager Logan apparently wanted to speak with me but the lady said never mind and just told me "Sorry" and now I'm on my own with a large amount of negative equity on a car I can't even drive anymore! Also don't email them and expect a response, they will not respond via email, I don't know why it's even listed as an option on their website. I have emailed numerous times over the years when I'm working and cannot call and they never answer. Please proceed with caution if you decide to use them. read more

I was a previous customer of OneMain Financial. I paid off my loan and received emails saying I had an excellent choice of getting a new loan. Without affecting my credit I applied and was told I was approved then I was told I needed a cosigner. I tried again and was told I was approved to bring my vehicle in to complete the transaction. Upon arriving with my vehicle and submitting all the requested paperwork, allowing them to access my personal bank information, I was again denied. I checked and they denied me several times without my knowledge. I will not recommend them the service was horrible, (the one at 4750 W Armitage) was supposed to open at 8:30 according to the website, phone recording and the sign on the door. They did not arrive until 9 and was not very professional. If you want a good place to go to try Regional Finance in Schaumburg or Heights Finance on 18th street in Chicago, they have excellent service. read more

i attempted to get a loan through these people for 2k just some extra emergency money. yhwu told me I was approved for 14k but I didn't want or need that and was told I couldn't take a LOWER amount because of my credit score...huh? Then I was told that the payments would be $849 a month and that I would have to use my car as collateral damage. None of that made sense to me. I tried to get $4,000 and this person named Tina literally spoke to me like she was doing me a favor. i submitted everything and she wanted to go line by line of me and my husband's credit report. Their interest rates are too high. Your contract is a stack of papers that they know you are not going to read...but please read. The reps mislead you into thinking one thing and it is not. Horrible customer service in the Desplaines location. Alex is the worst, and the managers are no better. They don't have a clue of what they are doing. Between 3/24-4/4 I received at least 4 different answers. They asked 5 different times to upload documents, I was told that they didn't receive them it's a glitch in the system. My back was against the wall in desperate need of a car, so I went to one main for a loan, staff was friendly, but ended up getting a loan for 7,000 but good I ended up spending almost 20,000 paying it back besides the extremely high interest rate(credit score of 640 at the time) they also have a bunch of other hidden fees so be extremely cautious and read through the fine print if u are going to do business with this company, because they will stick it to you. read more

Perhaps the most unprofessional business of all time. The other reviewer must be a family member of Melissa because I attempted to work with her and it was IMPOSSIBLE. First she said she could approve a secured loan with my car as collateral and I would only need to bring the title of the car. WRONG. (Proof of insurance is also needed) Secondly she attempted to verify employment without my permission. She then yelled at me for informing her, I did not give her permission to contact my employer. Thirdly, I asked to be transferred to a different rep and she refused. I called back and spoke to the branch manager who said she would take it from here. The branch manager then verified employment with my HR Dept and stated she would call me back. Being dissatisfied with dumb and dumber, I asked to be transferred to a different branch. In a form of retaliation before transferring my loan to a different branch, they indicated I refused employment verification. Also false, I simply needed a notification from Brennan or Dale (Stepbrothers reference) BEFOREHAND, in order to connect with my HR department. Once I knew they needed to verify employment, I connected with my HR dept. HR then took the call. I explained to Melissa a heads up was required as my HR Dept is very busy but she probably couldn't hear me over her yelling. Avoid taking out any loan from here! I know we usually are desperate when we consider a place like this, but they PREY on that desperation! Since August 2020 I have made additional payments that have been misapplied. Since August 2020 I have tried unsuccessfully to get this company to resolve my misapplied payments. These people are a deceitful! They claim to be able to give loans to people with bad credit, but that's misleading! I applied for a $2,000 loan and was approved for up to $4,000 with a car title. I told the representative I didn't have a vehicle under my name. The rep then said my wife could co-sign since my credit wasn't high enough. She made it seem that I would have a better chance of securing the loan if our credit scores and INCOME were combined. We went to their office, and after being made to wait a really long time, we were told the only way we could get approved was to use my wife's car title as collateral....basically a title loan. For everyone who knows...title loans are a HUGE rip-off! You borrow $4,000 and end up paying back $11,000...more than twice as much! We were then told that we could apply later when our credit improved...NEWS FLASH: If we already had good credit, we wouldn't need the loan in the first place, imagine that! They claim to "help people with bad credit" but that's clearly not the case as my credit was the reason we were denied. So I guess you have to have "good-bad credit???" These people are like any other typical shady loan sharks. Don't waste your time with them. They lure you in telling you you're approved when you're really not. For a $2,000 loan I was told the payments would be around $95 a month. Had I been approved, I could've and WOULD'VE easily made $300 monthly payments to pay it off faster. I totally had the means and income to afford this loan and the monthly payments, but no, it all comes down to some stupid 3-digit credit score number with these people, though they claim to focus more on your income rather than your credit score. That's clearly not true, or else I would have been approved. If you get any "pre-approval" letters from them in the mail, tear it up. These people are just after your cars and assets. read more
