We came here for a Christmas tree. Although we got there in the early morning, the parking lot was already crowded and lots of people were walking around. You put down some money for a saw (if needed) and walk around until you find the one you want. When you're done, you can carry it back to the front of the farm or drop it off at the truck for them to haul it back. If you're cutting down a tree, make sure someone is pushing the tree away so the saw doesn't get caught/stuck/unable to move. It has been exactly one month and the tree looks freshly cut. No dryness! As an update: I left a voice mail on their answering service briefly explaining about the tree stand malfunction. I received a phone call later the same day (after hours) from who I believe to be the lovely woman who owns and runs the farm. Seriously don't go here. It's a joke with terrible trees. I understand cutting down a small tree could limit future supply and eliminate it's growth potential. But when almost every single tree that was "cut your own" in the fields were burnt out or definitely not growing, I wanted my kids to still cut their own first tree. But we were charged $108 for (2) less than two foot totally garbage "trees". It's almost comical now, not a single sign or caution against cutting down a tiny dying tree... Just got this update from Ron at Oney's: "So sorry I'm just seeing this now. But do you realize that this tree---which you CUT was as fresh as possible but also spruce doesn't have excellent needle retention/ There are many types of evergreens and they aren't the same? So if you would have cut a fir or a pine---your needle retention would have lasted for 4 week or greater? But a spruce is very unpredictable. We carry spruce because people who are of German, Polish, Serbain and other natationalites prefer them but they put them inside the house usually only a few days before Chritmas---becaue they know the limits of that tree. This info is on our webside and also signs are at the info booth and inside the barn. " Absolutely NEVER going back to Oney's. What a jerk. This is the worst Christmas tree we have ever had. It has been losing a massive amount of needles, beginning the day we cut it down. The stand is completely full of water - the tree is obviously not absorbing any. I am very disappointed and will definitely not be returning next year. read more

STOP YOUR SEARCH!!!! The Oney's Tree Farm is a HUGE, 200 acre tree farm with a great selection of trees. We found the time to drive from Wheaton to Woodstock to hand pick 4 different trees we wanted for our yard and although we easily could have made a phone call and had them do it, we found the selection to be so large that we did change our mind on one particular species of Pine simply because of the variety they had. The owner (Dawn) and her crew far exceed the level of help one might find in retail sales now a days. I (we) must of threw 40 different questions, either on the phone, via e-mail or in person that had me thinking at various times, "God, I hope I'm not sounding annoying." Never in our dialog with her while we were trying to narrow down the right type of tree, did she flinch at our questions or give the impression that she did not have the time for such a small purchase. Her knowledge and good nature with our kids will made us leaving with smiles on our faces. When it came time for the "planting" the Oney's Crew were punctual, well spoken and left the areas clean. The prices were very reasonable and the best part was they dug all 4 holes (which were rather large) by hand. Definitely going back for our trees!!! Thanks for reading. read more

I'm so sad to post this but our tree didn't last 10 days before all the needles fell off. It didn't take as much water as I would have expected and the needles started to fall off after about a week. Several ornaments (20+) slid off the branches because there were no needles to hold them on. This tree clearly was diseased and we are very disappointed we spend the money we did, made the effort to bring our 3 kids to cut it down only to have it completely die the week before Christmas. Our 3 children are very sad that the tree they found and cut down didn't make it to Christmas. It's hard to find a large tree the week before and very disappointing to spend $75 on a tree that has to be replaced. read more

We have been cutting our tree down for 25 years. We decided to try Oney Tree Farm. The only thing good about the experience was the tree selection was wonderful. That is where it stops. Be prepared to wait at least 45 minutes to get your tree. There is not enough parking, period. Get there early!! The line to pay for your tree can be another 20 to 30 minutes. My son's tree took 1 1/2 hours to come in from the lot. The topper was employees out in the lot were apathetic, clueless and did not have any understanding of customer service!!! We will go back to Richardson's tree farm next year. read more

Experience in theory is good. Tree selection was sparse this year. The reason for the three stars is the poor service with the trees. There is no shaking of the tree of cutting the bottom to clean up the tree. If you want a big tree you have to carry your tree quite some time to get to a tractor. True Christmas Tree Farm, grounds were muddy, parking was tight. The store was good full of Christmas trinkets. Restrooms are port a John's outside , not stroller friendly. When you get there just some advice see the information center first that will help explain where and what everything is. You can rent hand saws or bring your own. Their hospitality was friendly , I actually heard merry Christmas and they work fast to get your tree shook and wrapped for the ride home. read more

We've been getting our tree from here every year since we moved into a bigger house. We topically go for the Colorado Blue Spruces. We always find the perfect tree. Staff is friendly and the service was great although you do have to wait for the tractor to come get you, unless you wanna walk, which I almost prefer doing. The atmosphere was great. I couldn't imagine a better place to get a Christmas tree. Just make sure you water the tree, or needles will start to fall. read more

After some research, we wound up at Oney's for a U-cut Christmas tree. Overall not a great experience. Lots of people around, but no one offering help or direction. Signs to trees non existent. Plus that we got to bring our pups, but the fields, roads, paths were so muddy. We dressed appropriately, but my husband got covered in mud cutting our tree down. Boots, pants, and dogs were filthy. Another big con: the trees are not planted by type or size, so you arent sure where to look or how much the tree you picked will cost you. We ended up paying $70 for a 8ft fir that we had to carry back- no carts and they stop running wagons an hour before close. They have a cute Christmas shop and a small snack bar, but baked goods were nothing to write home about. You're better off somewhere smaller, more organized, and less expensive. We'll be trying a new place next year. read more

Great place to cut your own christmas tree! Huge field with lots of variety of trees in all shapes and sizes. Super helpful staff even helped carry our tree to my car and help me put it on the roof. The horse drawn wagons seemed popular, but we decided to hoof it ourselves to see the trees. The hot cider afterwards was yummy and not too hot so you could drink it right away. read more

This is the third year now that we have purchased trees, Colorado Blue and Green Spruce, Norway Spruce and this year Serbian Spruce for our acre lot. We are all about "Be Local, Buy Local" and when Local is the best around it makes it even sweeter. Our conversation with the owners provided history of the farm, best planting tips for our trees. The fact that they close during summer months because they don't believe it's the best planting time says a bunch. I was waiting for the gates to open this year, and with Specials such as $29 3' spruce trees, $49 5' spruce trees it is definitely hole digging time at our place. You tie a tag on the trees you choose, and the staff preps them for travel, and loads them into your vehicle for you. They will plant if you choose that route to. Oney's is my tree farm and I recommend them to everyone. read more

So I'll sart with the tree selection was beautiful.. The organization was horrible. As standing in line (45mins.)to take the horses up to the trees, there was a tractor with trees on it and instead of taking those trees off they were grabbing peoples tress's(people that were walking back with a tree instead of making them stand in a line)first to wrap them. So in the mean time there were horses sitting behind the tractor waiting to come through for another 20mins. I was going to give three stars till we just noticed they ripped us off 7 dollars. If that's the case how many more people have they done this to? The receipt doesn't even match up with the product prices. So we are heading back, another part of wasting our time. Went there with the family on Sunday. This place was really nice. You can walk or take a horse ride out to the area with trees to cut down. They had pony and camel rides for the kids and Mrs Claus was even there. Trees were reasonably priced and it wasn't too crowded at all. read more

Ive bought real christmas trees from Home Depot in the past. This year went to cut down our own at Oneys tree farm. Limited selection. Once cutting it down an putting it up, a week later we started getting small gnats in the house, upon further inspection, they surrounded the tree. Ive never had this issue before. Farm is nice but trees are planted helter skelter around the lot and are not marked. Map at the entrance is generalized and the trees are not in nice defined sections like it tries to present. Customers are left wander around and to try to identify the trees themselves. We picked up one we were certain was a fir but then went to pay for it and, nope, its a spruce. That would be fine except for the giant sign at the checkout (at the end!) that says "BTW you can't put them in the house until a few days before Christmas" Uh that's great, we already cut it down. Why didn't the person at the information desk tell us that when we arrived? Why would they even offer that variety in the first place? "Here's your tree that you can't put in the house, Merry Christmas!" In all our years of purchasing trees, all the varieties we have purchased, we have never hear this. We always get a tree the weekend after Thanksgiving, set it up within a few days, and take it down just after New Years, Now we have a $70 tree we can't enjoy and has to sit on the deck for weeks. Now it is no better than a pre-cut and we could have just purchased a pre-cut at Home Depot for half the price. read more

This place is the best! There is such a great selection of trees to buy and the barn is filled with fun ornaments and Christmas-ey trinkets. My family and I took the horse drawn carriage out into the fields and cut down our perfect tree. The kids loved all of it - which was a refreshing change of pace from them complaining all of the time - The staff was so great helping to get the tree to our car while the kids and I enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies inside the warm barn. The entire staff worked so hard to make sure we had a good experience, and we did! We will most definitely be back next Christmas season. :-) read more
