After "playing" with the markets for 15-some years and taking numerous courses where you basically take a 3-5 day class and you are released with a notebook and a pat on the back, the one thing that differentiates OTA from the rest and sold me on the concept of trading as a career is COMMUNITY. The fact that OTA offers "real" classes in a brick-and-mortar setting, that they had a physical presence on an international level, and you are going to be plugged into a community of traders each and every day, as well as have the opportunity for unlimited retakes anywhere in the world, I knew this was a place I could not only take a class from, but someone I could PARTNER with over the course of my new career. The instructors I have taken/retaken my four classes (so far!) have been top shelf. The support team in the Extended Learning Track and Mastermind Community are as responsive as some of the best support staff anywhere in any industry. The staff at the Charlotte location are friendly and have been very helpful to me anytime I had a question or needed some additional information. I sympathize on the one hand with some reviewers saying there is a heavy handed sales pitch. This is, of course, a for-profit educational institution, and committing to this type of career is not for the faint of heart (hence the 3-day intro course to let you know what you are getting into). Admittedly, this education is not cheap. But it's a heck of a lot cheaper than any other kind of business venture where you will put yourself at risk multiple times over. For $376,000 (and having a personal net worth of at least $450,000) you can buy into a franchise which will grant you the "privilege" of changing someone else's oil and MAYBE take home a modest salary. For less than one TENTH of that, you can take the entire SUITE of classes at Online Trading Academy, and make as much money as you want, provided you have the discipline to create a plan, and follow your plan. read more

OTA provides a method to successfully trade stocks, futures, forex and options. They provide classroom training and multiple online support classes to enhance the training. The online classes are live and you can interact with the instructor via a chat room. The instructors answer all questions during the session. You can retake classes as often as you like--both at a center or online. A call center is also available for questions and assistance. It is like going back to school--studying required--but you can get paid while doing it. I attend classes in Cornelius, NC (near Charlotte). The instructors are all active traders and are very helpful to those of us just starting out. They have lots of insights and advice on how to become a successful trader. The courses are not cheap but the return on the investment can be great and should grow over time. read more

As a student at OTA, I have had great support and tons of information to help me plan my financial future in trading. They have all the information and tools necessary to get started. OTA's instructors are fabulous!!! Some are local, some come from all over the country to teach and guide us in whatever type of trading in the market we wish to invest in. They take each market, step by step, to make it clear to understand. The best part is once you are a student, you have a support group for life!! You can retake a class at the academy or online. For folks that are working, this flexibility in classes makes it possible to have the opportunity to be prepared for their financial goals for the present and the future. I ran across OTA doing online searches and signed up for the 1/2 day class. Expecting to learn a little bit, it was merely a sales pitch. Well, still eager to learn and being told if I didn't like the class or it didn't meet my expectations or due to financial situations they would refund the tuition. More than once I was told, "We aren't gonna send you off to trade with no money." You can get your money back. I went to the 3 day Market Timing. Class was ok. They didn't teach me any more than I've learned on YouTube and google thus far. They pull you in for a coaching talk which is again merely just a sales pitch. We will help you get started. You can get started on our dime. Meaning: you take out this loan for tuition and pay a big down payment and we give you trades. Hmm, ok what good is that when you pay all your money to them? You have no money to trade. For someone with $20-30k extra it's great. They apparently have strategies but they don't go over those in the 3 day class. They give you pieces and you just have to pay more money. It seems to me that if they really wanted successful traders they would be less concerned with the tuition. Basically if you have money you will be fine to attend, if you are a single parent on a budget, it's not for you. RE: The class was basically emails of former students on how they are doing and the coaching sessions trying to get you to pay more money and an overview of what can be traded. Again no more than I learned online myself. I had to take off 3 days from work and drive 4 hours to attend the class. I do not recommend others do this. read more

I wish I could give them a half-star. Spent $300 to go down to Charlotte for a weekend to learn something about trading. Instead they talked for a day and a half about other classes they offer for thousands of dollars. I left feeling like I had been taken advantage of. Those of you that know me understand that I am not the type of person to go into something with a closed mind. I also enjoy class of just about any kind. But this is a total scam people. Save yourself some time and money and stick to the fundamentals of trading. There is a time and a place for technical analysis, which is what they claim to teach, but this stunk of rat. I then attempted to have my money returned through AMEX. Turns out they told AMEX that I was inattentive and preoccupied with a personal matter and only attended one day. A fabrication in the worst way and truly indicative of their true nature. I turned my phone off and brought only the materials they mentioned. I always give 100% of my attention to a professor. After all, I am the one spending the time and the money. And I showed up for day 2 thinking things would pick up. I left at lunch after the one-on-one coaching session that should have been called a one-on-one sales pitch. Stay clear from this group. They are predacious. read more

After a long conversation and a multitude of encouragement from Rusty Lee and Katie Rumery, I finally agreed to attend the three day introductory class given by Online Trading Academy and I am so thankful that I did! I didn't know what I was in store for and I honestly wasn't expecting much. I already had my mind made up (or so I thought), that I would decline whatever was being promoted so that I could get on with my plan of working my day job and supplementing with my night job until I could land my next government contract for my company which I hoped would propel me into a plethora of repeat business. All I knew was that with two jobs, a large family and a ton of obligations, I could not even fathom adding one more thing to my "plate" of things to do. Fortunately, what I saw during that three day introductory class was enough to convince me that mastering the Core Strategy wouldn't just be one more thing to add to my "plate." On the contrary, it would allow me to remove things from it. Despite the promise that I made to myself to turn down whatever was presented, I saw an opportunity to change my life and the future of myself and my family. I didn't have the money to pay out of pocket for the tuition, I didn't even have enough money to cover the monthly fee but it didn't matter. This was not an opportunity that I was going to pass up, so I told myself that I would do whatever it takes to come up with the money to educate myself and change my life. I believe what confirmed my decision to join OTA was the testimonial of Scott Tansill. I truly connected with his story and admire what he has accomplished as a result of trading. It wasn't just about the money, but also the lives that he has changed as a result of his OTA experience. A genuine sincerity for the success of people radiated from him and it touched me. If he could be successful, create successful people around him and touch lives with this skill, why couldn't I? I attended the Professional Trader 1 and Professional Forex Trader classes at the Charlotte campus and I was blown away! I'm not sure how someone's complete life plan can change within a few days but mine did! I got a glimpse of the freedom, flexibility and income that could be expected within a short time just for mastering the OTA Core Strategy. I met several of the coaches while on site at OTA and it was encouraging that I didn't even need to have a background in trading to be successful. The first instructor that I had for the Professional Trader 1 course was Jeff Manson. It was immediately apparent that he was very knowledgeable, precise and very willing to share the information that he had. I took the Professional Forex Trader class with Brandon Wendell. Brandon is "The Man"! He presented the Core Strategy in a way that explained the concepts, simplified them, clarified why they work and how and provided examples to bring everything together! Not only did he deliver the lessons, he did it with energy, excitement in an interactive environment that invited participation which made it easier to learn. Between the time of the Professional Trader 1 class and the Professional Trader class with Brandon, I understood the Core Strategy in theory, but I had some questions that required clarification. By the end of the week with Brandon, all of my questions had been answered, most of which were answered without me even having to ask. By the time the class was over I felt confident to start trading a live account. It took me about 2 months to come up with the money to fund an account, but after a week of live trading I yielded a 15% return on my investment! I am especially thankful to Rusty Lee and Katie Rumery for their encouragement and seeing something in me to recommend Online Trading Academy (and for twisting my arm enough to make me say "yes"). It has been a blessing to find OTA and I truly believe that with the knowledge that I have acquired, there is no limit to the success that I will have. Thanks OTA! I have already written one review about Online Trading Academy but it was for the main office where all their course content comes from and since I am heavily involved with their Extended Learning Track (XLT) program, what I wrote before is what that really refers too. What this review is about is the Charlotte Center where I have taken all my classes with and the people I have dealt with face to face. I have taken most of my classes with one Instructor, though I have taken some class time with a couple of others as well. Justin is the instructor I have had for my trading class, my forex class, and my futures class. The man really knows his business and I rank him up there with the best in the XLT program. Every class I have taken with him, he has demonstrated to me that he knows how to pick turning points in live markets within a few ticks or pennies. I only seen him stopped out one time for a tiny little loss when he was demonstrating how to fine tune an entry in a zone. Proper risk management and position sizing is something he also stresses in his classes so one mistake don't kill your account. If you get an opportunity in the Charlotte Campus to get a class with Justin, I highly recommend it. We are lucky that he lives local to the center and have access to his knowledge of the markets. As good as he is, he is very humble about his abilities and he errs on the side of caution. He may miss a trade every now and then with no entry, but the ones that hit work extremely well from what I have seen. Justin, you have a lot of fans out here that are your students. Justin is an EXCELLENT instructor and an AWESOME trader. As far as the center goes, I have found them to be very professional and nice. The guy I have dealt with there has always treaded me fairly. Actually after talking to a student from another center, the people here in Charlotte are one of the best in the network. They have always been more than willing to work with me and I never had any trouble retaking any classes. The Charlotte center ROCKS though I only have personal experience with them here locally. I know there is some negative stuff floating around here about OTA but that hasn't been my personal experience. I would say to those that wrote those reviews, COME to CHARLOTTE, I challenge you to take a class here and deal with the folks here. I can't speak for every center, but the folks in Charlotte will treat you right, the XLT program is amazing, and I have always gotten fast responses from XLT support. My experience is that while in class I felt like some of the instructors relied on very basic guesses and hunches.

I have not attend any classes with Online Trading Academy. My experience with them didn't get that far. I was interested in attending their class after hearing them on the radio. I called to make an appointment giving MY name, address and cell phone number. A few days before the class I received a reminder text but it was addressed to MY HUSBAND. They must have had to do some digging to get his name, because when I made the appointment there was no mention of my husband. Although happily married, the appointment was for me and me only. I responded to the text and told them how disappointed I was that they had done this and did not give me the respect as a potential customer, or as a women. I was told 'if you feel that way you're probably not a customer we want!" Texts and phone calls were exchanged, some curse words were used and a supervisor was called. Several months later MY HUSBAND is still getting junk mail invites from them. - I am leaving a review for this location because that is the address on the junk mail read more

The OTA approach to trading the markets is in my opinion, fool proof. If you can control yourself and do just as you are being taught to do, you simply cannot fail. You have the OTA community with you all the way, to include; continuous education in person, online, and through live XLT's and Mastermind Clubs. I have never experienced such a positive environment where experts are willing to share their knowledge and genuinely care that you do well. The admin and student support staff at the Charlotte OTA Center are simply the best, whatever your trading needs they are all more than willing to help and the friendliest folks you would ever want to meet. The instructors come from all over, are very successful traders themselves, and are outstanding at teaching the OTA techniques that has made them so successful. I wish I would be able to give them ZERO stars. I have read all the negative, positive, and a few average reviews for OTA. However, no one's experience can compare with what just happened to my husband and me at the Charlotte's office of OTA. Today, 04/23/14 Scott Tansill the owner of OTA Charlotte just kicked out my husband and me from the second day of our first class, the so called Markets Timing class. I attended the free half day "class" about a couple of weeks ago. Like other reviewers already said it was just a few hours of marketing pitch with no new or useful information. That was the first red flag. Buy the way there is no free lunch at that location for the free half day class. The first class that they offered at retail price of $1,000 was discounted to $299 and I enrolled despite the red flag. I expected that for 3 full days I could have learned something useful. I even talked my husband into attending with me (they allow one family member in addition to attend). He took three days of unpaid PTO to come. The second red flag was raised when the so called educational advisor Joe Del Monte called me a couple of days after my enrolment. On the top of personal information and investment experience strait forward he inquired about all of our savings and investments. He wanted to know how much and what kind of assets we had. That was the second red flag. I did not disclose to him all of our assets with the point that I do not have my husband's permission to do that. The only "educational" advise and homework that Del Monte gave me prior to class start was to review their web site info about the classes that OTA offers. When that evening we spoke with my husband about the financial questions asked we figured it out that in no way we should disclose it completely to him. It was already obvious that the more money that you had reported the more pressure they could exert to enroll. Not only that but they try to scare you how you can loose all the savings if you do not let them teach you how to protect them. In general during every class recess part of the students had meetings/interrogations with their "advisors". The only purpose of those meetings was to gather personal financial information and pressure again to enroll in more expensive classes. It seems that OTA has "evolved" recently and now offers classes grouped in packages. The less expensive package discounted price was around $16,000. On the first day of class Del Monte wanted to complete the gaps in his questioner about our monetary assets. We gave him a figure far less than the real one. He was obviously disappointed and cut the meeting short, because he was not able to push us to the upper priced class group. The second day started and during the first recess was our next meeting with Del Monte. We declined enrolment at this time and went back to class. Few minutes later one employee came and took us to the owner's office. We were ordered immediately to leave the class. Their "business model" was to work only with "motivated and right minded people" and according to their criteria we were not. We were escorted to the exit where our belongings waited for us. A refund of $200 was given to us. It was very humiliating and I wonder if our dismissal raised more red flags to the rest of the students in class. It was unfolding like a big farce. It was hard to believe that an institution that names itself an academy can have such an anti educational and even anti business model. Not only that but students have to put up with the enormous self-inflated egos of the instructors and owner. The rest of the staff was OK. However, we are glad that we did not enroll in more classes, because from what we experienced it was obvious that OTA is not in the business of education, but only in the business of making money without delivering a relevant value. That was also the prevailing opinion of OTA's alumni that I found online. As another reviewer on one trading forum has put it the positive reviews on OTA's web site and here and there are just "aggressively pushed infomercials". I should have done my research for online reviews of OTA even prior to going to the free class, to spare myself from such a negative experience. The positive thing was that my husband and me made very, very important conclusions for our further investment education. That has proved the fact that even from the worst experience some positive thing can evolve. People, spare your time and money for something real and valuable. After trying to read trading books and taking some hotel seminars on trading for 5 years I was not getting very far with my trading. I came across OTA and learning how the banks and institutions bought and sold in the markets (supply & demand) cleared things up in terms of timing the markets. The instructors have a wealth of knowledge and experience and are able to deliver that expertise in a way students can understand. The online trading rooms are a critical piece to the learning process and helps to see how other professionals are trading the markets no matter what environment we are in. If you are looking to either make some extra income on the side or if you are looking to protect/build your retirement accounts for down the road, OTA has strategies and tools that will help you get to that goal but it takes work, having a written trading plan, and using the resources to help build the skills necessary. I wanted to take a quick moment to show my appreciation for your Instructor Robert Dummar. I was lucky enough to have Robert teach my Market Timing Orientation class in Charleston, SC this April. It's an understatement to say the Robert lifted the vail of mystery on the markets in general. I learned more in those three days under Robert's guidance than I had in several college classes. Not only did Robert educate me, but he shared his passion of the industry and lit my fire to not only learn, but to apply my education for real life-changing benefits! Just last week I ran into Robert at the Raleigh office. I was taking my Core Strategy Class and Robert was doing another Market Timing Orientation class. Robert not only remembered me, but invited myself along with a few other interested students to sit in on a live online Mastermind Community clubhouse XLT he was hosting that evening. WOW! The experience was eye opening, entertaining and enlightening! Robert explained complex material and ideas in a simple and comprehensible way. While I may not have understood all of it, I was able to understand the majority of it and the larger picture and concepts as a whole. Robert went above and beyond to include us in this event and it was greatly appreciated. It was both motivational and insightful to see what actually goes on at the Mastermind level. I attended the Market Timing Class and I was very pleased with the results. It is made very clear before, during, and after this class that the initial Market Timing Class is going to expose a student to the markets and help them figure out what asset class would be best for the student to use in managing their money in the markets. I felt the team at OTANC was very truthful in describing this to the students. I have been in the markets for over twenty years and to spend three days in finally figuring out what I have really been a part of makes a lot of since. I have gone on to enroll in other classes and I have been very satisfied. I had a student in my class and I see complaints on this site stating that OTA sells classes. Every school sells classes genius! Learning this skill has helped me to not lose hundreds of thousands of dollars and I am now able to profit in all markets no matter what direction it goes. I will spend over 150k on my daughters college education which will get her a JOB. I will also teach her what I have learned from OTA and then when she is let go from her JOB and that 150K education does not mean as much she will have a skill on managing the money she has so that she is always in control and not dependent on this world. In this life we have doers and we have talkers. For me and my family, we are doers. I have read the complaints on this site and I will tell you that they are just talkers! If you are in the markets or you are wanting to be, I would definitely give OTA a call and at least check them out. read more

I listened to Scott's show on WFNZ and called to get the free CD's that were offered as part of the show. I should have known it right away but when they asked for my info to mail me the CD's they "offered" me a free power trading workshop class and what do you know they had availability in a couple of days!??!?! So knowing full what I was getting ready to step into I agreed just to see if this place was any different than the others. Well I took 3 hours off work today to attend the class. It started off relatively well and Scott seems like a pretty knowledgeable guy but of course 2 hours into it, the sales pitch begins for their 3 day class thats normally $1K but is being subsidized so its only $300!!! So Scott tells us he's gonna take a short break and after we all enroll in the 3 day class and pay our money, he'll start really getting into teaching. Well I was not ready to commit $300 to a class where I wasn't sure if I could make the dates and wasn't even sure if the class (I travel a lot for work) was right for me so I went out and told Scott I wasn't going to sign up today and would do some more research and be in touch. That wasn't an acceptable answer apparently. I got the "well go ahead and pay us today and we'll get you in a class whenever it works for you" answer. I told him I was not comfortable doing that and if I thought the class was a good fit I'd come back. Then he started in on how I'm losing the $700 subsidy and I'd have to pay the full $1K if I didn't pay today. My response was that if he were going to teach me ways to be successful in the market trading, I'd gladly pay the extra $700. Again, not an acceptable answer so his response was "I guess we'll never see you again." I said that's not true I just wanted to be 100% sure before I invest $300 in ANYTHING so wanted to do some more homework on the company and talk to some folks in the academy and see what their experience was like. And his response to that was "go ahead and go, we don't need you here anyway!" I told him "nice attitude" and walked out the door. For me personally, not the type of pressuring, sales oriented, give us your money and we'll teach you to be successful (maybe) type of place I want to deal with. I'm sure they do have successful students there and i don't think its wrong for me to ask some of them for their experiences and testimony. Treat me with kindness and respect and be out front and open about your company and I'd be willing to invest in your product, pressure me into "sign up today or lose this opportunity forever" type deal and I'll walk every time. The treatment I received after cordially declining the offer.... well that's the ONLY reason I decided to write this review. PS. I never received the CD's I called for originally, nor the 2GB flash drive with tutorials on it I was supposed to receive for "attending" their class. I'll safely assume after writing this review, I won't be getting them at any point in the future either. Oh well! :) read more
