We booked a private all-day wine and truffle tour and we were simply blown away. First, the Piedmont region is one of the most beautiful in all of Italy with its steep rolling hills and views of the snow-covered Alps in the distance. The tradition of the white-truffle festival in Alba is something that any gourmet simply must experience at least once in the their life and the Nebbiolo and Barbara wines of the regions are beyond compare. We met Robert in the small town of Neive around 9:30am and he drove us through Barbaresco to Barolo over the course of the day. We stopped for tastings, amazing view points, and a wonderful lunch that was prepared by Leslie. During lunch, Robert taught us the "Art of Sabrage" or the opening of a sparkling wine bottle with a sword. My friend Emily really enjoyed that and Robert got a great video of it. Speaking of video and photography, Robert is also a semi-professional photographer and he taught us a great deal about techniques for capturing the best shots with our SLRs. The afternoon included an actual truffle hunt complete with a truffle dog. The day ended with an amazing aperitivo with the locals from Neive including tastings of sparkling wines, barbaras and Barbarescos. We were also introduced to several producers of the wines we were drinking (including their families). The rooms are big and comfortable, the shower is one of the best I've ever had in Europe and the breakfasts were a delicious combination of local cheeses, salamis and pastries. The pool is a great place to kick back and relax before or after a day of wine tasting, and getting to play with Moon, their dog, made us miss our pups at home a little less. But the best part about Bricco is the hospitality of Livio and Claudia. From the welcome wine with cheese & salami, to the endless dinner recommendations and suggestions for the surrounding area to the evening nightcap of grappa, you couldnt ask for better service. They make you feel like you are part of their family and I was truly sad the day our stay ended. We look forward to a return trip to Piemonte and we will most definitely be staying at Bricco dei Cogni.

The food was good but definitely not worth the drive and the money. The prices went up quite a bit in conjunction with a drastic reduction of the portions. The appetizers instead of being served one by one they now come in a single plate: 5 tiny appetizers. One of the person at the table told the waiter he was allergic to one of this five items and the waiter did not offer something alternative. The pasta dishes were good but again served already as individual very small portions. The prices were extremely high, 14 euros for those 5 appetizers, 9-12 for the pasta dishes and 44 for the desserts. The final straw however for us was that one of us asked for a "caffè corretto" and the waiter offered to bring the liquors on the table. One person added a drop in the coffee and we were charged 6 euros for that. Honestly no restaurants of this type charge for the liquors at the end. We are old customers going regularly compatibly with the fact we live far away and we expected more. The changes to the service, the reduced portions and the the higher prices were quite unwelcome. Time for us to explore other venues!

We were not familiar with 'typical' Piedmont cuisine so the owner brought us an appetizer medley with Cotechino, Red Peppers, and other goodies that I dont remember the name! (all delicious though!). He suggested us a Barbera/Syrah blend which was divine and really cheap (I believe 13 Euros!).. For first course we tried these tiny raviolis which are served on a napkin, tableside with no sauce... We loved them and suggested he should open a kiosk in South Beach and serve them as Popcorn Ravioli... I mean these little things were DELICIOUS!!.. Our second course was a bird called "Faraona" oven-roasted served with a veggie medley from his garden (talk about fresh!)... Everything was excellent and we still had a little room for dessert and we had the BEST tiramisu made with Moscato and served with frozen Moscato grapes... OMG I can still savour it and probably crave tonight... Totally worth it !! We stayed the night at the B&B and was incredibly serene and quiet.. Just what we needed in our short stay!

We went there for lunch and we were very well served on a nice table by the window. We even go offered an amouse-bouche, a gratin onion with parmesan cheese that was delicious. The dishes took a long time to arrive but they were all delicious. I got the raviolis plin and it was the best ravioli ever! My husband and our friend got both the tajarin with butter and parmesan and they said it was delicious also. As wine we ordered a bottle of Nebiolo from the area and it was a very good wine. Extra: they have the cutest dog that sometimes is at front desk. She is very nice and playful. She is very well behaved and quiet and a treat to play with if you are a dog person. Try the Arneis wine - special white wine from Piemonte - very nice! Also make sure they bring you some hazelnuts... Ferrero gets its hazelnuts from that region for a reason! Yummy! :)
