Chris is a criminal, con artist, and scammer. Openly solicited my business in a Florida gated community that says no trespassing in front - illegal Contract that I signed lists a license that is not an active Florida license - clear misrepresentation of being a licensed contractor in FL. Quoted $2400, when the company fixing the job said it shouldn't be more than 1300, but now I have to pay them $2700 to remove Chris's work and fix. They said it's the worst job they've seen in years Team completed job and caused damage to my property that I will now have to pursue in small claims court. Refuses to provide a full refund, and now I have to spend more to fix his botched job. He continued to assure me that he is licensed, without providing the license number, and no license is listed under his name or company in the Florida database. Gave me some sob story before I signed the contract about how a family member recently died. Similar to the other reviews claiming he's a scammer. Has now blocked my communications for a refund, so I will need to file a police report, pursue in small claims, and report him to state licensing entity so that they can pursue criminal charges. Told me "good luck" before blocking me after I said I am pursuing in small claims court. Pictures attached of the job. He didn't neutralize chemicals used on driveway properly, creating white stains. Picture paint a thousand words. Barely a year old and drive way is cracked. Quoted me a low price didn't fish the job. Threatened me that he would get nasty if I didn't remove my yelp review. Stay away from this company. Cashed checks to complete other jobs.(Which I have no problem with, it's tough running a small business.) Honestly I'm not happy with my driveway or the way the project was ran. We discussed things in detail and when the time came it was as if none of those conversations happened. I had to be present whenever work was being done. They ran out of material 2x while paving and Chris said he had no money left and needed me to pay for the asphalt. They broke some of the Belgium blocks and the repairs are obvious. I have puddles and uneven areas and noticeable seams where they graded by hand. Chris is a nice guy and I don't think he is a scammer but I'm not happy with the outcome of their work. I can go on and on with more examples why but you get the point. read more

Beware this scammer (Open Road Paving-ORP in Brick NJ): On 12/28/24 ORP rang my mother-in-laws' doorbell saying they repaired her neighbors' driveway and offered to fix hers. She signed a contract that day, and ORP gave her a sad story about how bad things were and could she give them a deposit up front for work to be done in the Spring of '25. She gave them $800. ORP didn't even sign with a person's name - just "Open Road Paving". This past April she told a trustee in her senior village about the contract but learned the trustees cannot approve ORP to do the work as they received complaints about them and they have no state license to operate. Her daughter called ORP in May to request a refund as she cannot hire them - and was told they would refund her. Never got it. Update: As no refund was made on 6/16 I spoke to the father - seems this is a father/son business. He said he knew all about it and his company was trying to get the senior village to agree to let them work there. I told him the NJ Dept of Consumer Affairs told the village not to allow it. The father said he would call his son and ask him to call my mother-in-law in the next day or two to get it resolved. After 3 days and no response I called the same number 908-228-0702. It went right to voicemail saying leave a message for Bobby. I repeated what happened and said if no $800 refund was in her mailbox by Monday at noon I would call the NJ Department of Consumer Affairs. No call-back so a few days later I submitted a complaint to the state. Then in mid-July someone knocked on her door and stated he'd bring a refund check by the 16th - never happened. Be forewarned this company is a scam and they have no license. Never hire someone going door-to-door: if they are a legitimate company they can get good references from their customers. Update 7/20: I posted the above review on Yelp and notified both phone #s for ORP. Chris called multiple times and then texted back, asked me to take it down, couldn't bring $ earlier b/c he was in CT doing a job, will bring it this week, but in the next sentence he wrote take review down and then he'll refund. Then he wrote he'll take me to court / I'm harassing him (just getting started). 7/21 I texted him and agreed to take the Yelp review down (which I did) and said I trusted him to return the $800 (although I really didn't). He replied TY, then changed his story: asked if it would be ok to bring $400 by the end of this week and another $400 the following week. I replied ok. 8/7 still no refund - he's just waiting for me to go away. So I've posted this on Yelp again - will post on other sites now and then to keep it fresh. Only 1 star b/c Yelp doesn't allow ZERO. read more

The paving is even, his team helped us install both in ground basketball hoops, and connected us with someone to do the basketball lines. Please do your research and check their credentials before you decide to do business with Open Road Paving. Chris George and whoever else he works with are extremely unprofessional. We never received a physical copy of our contract and had asked multiple times to send a full copy front and back. Chris even came back and asked for MORE MONEY after we already gave him a deposit (which he cashed at check cashing place immediately). After noticing they never came back to finish our neighbors driveway, I called to ask for our deposit back. Chris was very aggressive and defensive and refused to give our deposit back, even though no physical work was done yet. Other neighbors have also had unpleasant experiences with him. He will steal your money and never come back to finish an unpaved driveway with excuses only frauds will make. Again, please do your research and check their credentials before hiring this company. Please do not get scammed like our family did and the other families in our neighborhood who have been left with a ripped up driveway and forced to call a legit company to finish the job, causing them to spend more money and a lot of trouble. Stay away from this company. Chris the owner of Open Road Paving is a scammer. I hired him to take out the railroad ties in my circular driveway, replace them with Belgium block and to resurface and level of my drive with Pea Gravel. He told me it would take two possibly three weeks. He got started and did two days of work and then disappeared for a week leaving the railroad ties that were taken out on the front lawn of my house. A week later the railroad ties were picked up, but there were still some that had to be taken out and removed. Having called him numerous times and having him promise me that he'd be back to finish the work, Belgium block was finally delivered, but were not enough to complete the driveway or the front of my house. The Mason crew he sub-contracted installed the Belgium block that was delivered but left a quarter of my driveway and the front of my house undone. I informed Chris of this and he told me that the Block was ordered and was waiting for the local Landscape supply business to call him when it came in. I waited a week and I went to this Landscape supply business which was nearby and asked if any Belgium block was ordered. The guy at the counter asked what business was doing the job. When I told him Open Road Paving LLC he told me that this account has been flagged for outstanding bills unpaid. Long story short, Chris never finished the job. Promise after promise of telling me he'd be back and giving me an me an excuse that was losing money on this job. He never returned to finish the job. read more

The Open Road team did a nice job. My driveway is about 250 long and had not been sealed for at least 5 years. They took the extra time to prep and clean the area. Care was taken to tape off pavers and garage. They even extended the coverage to an area near the street drainage. This area was out of scope and would have left an unfinished look. I did not request this extra work. They just recognized it, completed it, and did not request additional $. I would recommend them. read more

We then arranged for the work to start. The workers came and dug up the driveway in a short period and was able to repave it that day.
