Superb B&B in Dun Laoghaire.
Our family of four stayed at Ophira B&B during our trip to Ireland this summer. We stayed here as it was more affordable than living in Dublin (525€ for three nights), yet well connected to the city via the DART train and bus routes . Dun Laoghaire is also an easy drive to some of the countryside places we wanted to visit, like Powerscourt gardens, Glendalough monastery, Enniskerry, and the majestic and wild mountains of County Wicklow.
We took the hour-long bus ride (17€ round trip for adults, 9€ for kids) in from Dublin airport and then walked ten minutes to Ophira. We were warmly welcomed by our host John, who graciously showed us around and then escorted us to our room.
Our room had an en suite bathroom and was perfect for our needs - one double bed for the parents, one single bed for each child. The bathroom was small by US standards but adequate for us.
Ophira has a comfortable drawing room downstairs that we were encouraged to use, and a dining room where we had three superb breakfasts during our stay (scrambled eggs, yogurt, scones and croissants, granola and milk, coffee and tea, assorted fruit and fresh juice).
John was a wonderful host and made our stay enjoyable and seamless. He responded to all my messages when I was booking our room from the US, arranged for the 100€ advance via PayPal and took the balance via credit card at the end of our stay. He even graciously drove us to Sixt car rental agency on the day we picked up our car, and moved one of his two cars so we could park in his private lot that evening when we returned.
Thank you John, Ophira B&B, and Dun Laoghaire, for a memorable trip to Ireland. read more
