My first time here I was pretty good as far as first-time appointments go. Dr. Haring was…read morephenomenal! She was very thorough and made sure that my contacts were perfect. I have never been to an eye doctor where I got to spend a decent amount of time 1:1 with the doctor so I was really impressed. I ended up buying glasses but I was hesitant to buy a bunch of contacts since I'm a college student and money is always tight. I was given a good amount of trial lenses and I was given my prescription to search around on buying options. I have never been offered to be given my prescription so readily, I always feel like it is a fight to get that information, but not here! I saved over $1,000 just to come to this appointment because I expected it to be expensive, but I only ended up spending less than $150 for the exam and glasses.

My wife and I spent around a $1000 at Eye to Eye at the Pierpont Centre getting exams, glasses and…read morecontacts. I purchased glasses the frames were around $200 plus cost for lenses etc. In seven months my frame hinge broke and believe me I take good care of my glasses the last pair I had for 5 years and still have them currently. In any case I brought them back to eye to eye optical and showed them the frame and they told me there was nothing they could do. They were only guaranteed for 3 months. The only suggestion they had was your insurance will give you another discount on frames in one year and you can buy another pair. Righttttttt! I stopped by Walmart one day and told them what happened and they fixed my glasses for free. I had to purchase the part needed to repair them. Guess where I'm going for my next eye exam and glasses

Best eye care experience I've ever had. The CLEC staff were kind, prepared, and completely…read moretransparent about insurance coverage. Dr. Portner delivered a thorough, comprehensive exam and listened closely to every concern, answering all my questions and never rushing me. The difference from my last appointment at another place in town was huge. I feel confident and cared for--and I'm moving my whole family to CLEC. If you want expert care with genuine kindness and clear communication, this is the place. Highly recommend!

Misleading and Unethical Billing Practices - Avoid If You Have Insurance…read more I chose Cheat Lake Eye Care because they claimed to accept Davis Vision, but that turned out to be completely misleading. First, they told me that my contact lens fitting class wasn't covered--when I knew for a fact that Davis Vision covers it 100%. Then, when I pushed back, they told me I could pay out-of-pocket and get reimbursed by Davis Vision. That was also a lie. When I called Davis Vision directly, they confirmed that the class was covered and that Cheat Lake Eye Care was supposed to bill them directly--not me. Even after Davis Vision contacted the office to clarify this, they still refused to bill insurance. Instead, Dr. Portner left me a voicemail (while she was on vacation) explaining that she simply doesn't trust Davis Vision to reimburse her, so she forces patients to pay upfront. She even admitted she's considering dropping Davis Vision altogether--yet still advertises as accepting it. Here's part of what she said: "My office policy for the insertion and removal class is a mandatory paid-at-time-of-service. We've been burned one too many times... Davis is untrustworthy. I'm literally considering dropping them as a plan altogether. You are welcome to go anywhere else to fit for your contacts, but if you would like to be fit with us with Davis Vision, we will do a complimentary 10% discount." So not only did they falsely claim the service wasn't covered, but they also misled me into thinking I could get reimbursed--when in reality, they were supposed to handle the billing themselves. If an office claims to accept an insurance plan, they should honor the terms of that coverage--not force patients to pay out-of-pocket because they don't want to deal with insurance. This was a frustrating, unprofessional experience, and I won't be returning. If you have vision insurance, I strongly advise getting all costs confirmed in writing before booking an appointment here.
