Biggest scam in the world. Have been a paying customer for 5 years, moving out on the 31st and billing cycle starts 8 days before my move out. Policies do not allow shifts, and I am paying a whole month of overpriced, unreliable service for 8 days to be able to work from home before I move out. Use Verizon, starlink, Tmobile; I don't know just not optimum - they may similar policies but at least their services are better you don't lose internet or tv consistently. If cancelling wasn't a process in itself I would've done so long ago. On top of this - they have their hardworking staff pitch new services after outlining how wild their policies are. I started laughing. "our policies are horrible, our services are horrible, you are clearly unhappy and I can't do anything about it - but hey, are you interested in our $25/mo. Cell phone plan???" I cackled. Maybe the comedic relief gets people to bite. Overpriced, bad policy, not customer first at all, I would rather craft an antenna and use RF frequencies I pick up from my microwave before ever considering them again. If I could give zero stars, I would. Optimum has delivered, hands down, the worst customer service experience I've had in over 30 years of dealing with any utility or service provider. After finding a better rate and superior service with Verizon, I called to cancel--only to be subjected to what can best be described as a corporate gauntlet of harassment disguised as "retention." The so-called "retention specialist" I was transferred to was aggressive, dismissive, and completely uninterested in listening. Instead of assisting, they pressured me with scripted nonsense. And when I didn't immediately agree to stay? I was transferred to yet another professional harasser at "Level 2," who somehow managed to be even more combative and clueless. This wasn't just a bad rep. This was policy. It was clear they were reading from a rehearsed playbook designed to exhaust and frustrate customers into submission. I was passed from department to department for nearly an hour, treated as though I were behind on payments (I wasn't), and spoken to in a tone more fitting for a debt collector than a customer service representative. Optimum doesn't earn loyalty--they grind it out of you through attrition. It's not just bad service--it's an infuriating, humiliating experience that makes you question how this company is still in business. Their rudeness is only eclipsed by their incompetence. Even if Optimum were free, I wouldn't go back. And I will actively discourage every friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, and stranger in line at the grocery store from ever giving them their business. They do not deserve it. After being a customer over 10 years, they kept me on the phone for over 30 minutes to cancel, offering all kinds of made up offers, and in the end, still made me pay til the end of the billing cycle which is 15 days from now. I had them confirm how much I owed, was told $0.00 Get an email from Optimum that I owed money, called to find out that "I was given wrong information". Stopped here once to drop off my modem and the line was out the door. I live nearby so I stopped by the next day instead to drop off my modem. There were three employees working who were friendly. And there was no line. I was in and out in under a minute and the service was speedy. There was seating inside, as well as TVs. But I didn't have to wait so I didn't use these amenities. What an awful company, as a whole. Unreliable onsite service, and outsourced labor in India, Philippines etc. due to this there is no vested interest in the customers or the company. We had been waiting like idiots for 5 weeks to connect service. They came today to install and we found out the TAP in the pole is bad and needs to be replaced. They said we need to wait another 1-2 weeks for that, they would not accommodate same day service. We have now cancelled service and are moving to Verizon. Will likely move our other 4 properties to verizon, just to avoid their horrid service. read more

STAY AWAY FROM OPTIMUM Unfortunately, they have a near monopoly in the Bronx. Verizon FIOS is not in my building, and so Optimum is my only choice. I literally cancelled services to reduce my bill, and apparently got a one-month reduction, what I would actually be billed every month was never made clear to me, they are not transparent with their costs. After hanging on for more than a half an hour in the online chat, it finally turns out my new bill will be $58 MORE than the bill I was trying to lower. You could never speak to a supervisor when requesting one but the minute i disconnected my service the transferred me to one to keep my business. Too late. I called 2 days ago for a shipping label and as promised it would take 48 hours to receive a simple email and of course i knew i wouldn't receive cause they don't care and that's ok I'll just mail and pay myself. Horrible company!! For years I was a loyal customer, but had to ask for service to be disconnected as I was moving out of the area. I disconnected the service in end of January and was told I have 30d to return equipment. I went to the Mamaroneck store Feb8 and return the equipment. I asked if there were outstanding charges so that I could pay it there and I was told the account had been paid off until end of next cycle already via automatic deduction. In April I get a notification from a collection agency saying that I owe $139. I called Optimum several times. The first time, the agent told me that it was for equipment not returned. When I said I had a receipt for return of equipment he said he had to investigate with a supervisor. While I was on hold I was disconnected. When I called back, I was informed their system was down and to call back in an hour. When I called back, I was informed their system was being upgraded and to call back in 2h and that they were available to answer my call 24/7. When I call back customer service was closed! I called again 2d later, on my day off, and was told it was NOT for no return of equipment, but for non payment of the Feb billing cycle. Since my acct was closed, of course I never got a bill via email or snailmail, but I was sent for COLLECTION instead. The agent also informed me they had NO WAY of sending me a copy of that bill so that I can pay. I pay via collection agency or go - AGAIN - to an Optimum store. My time is not worth anything. Their store agent told me my bill was paid off. Then they send me for collection and tell me I have to go back to their store to solve the situation. Not even an apology for their inability to send me a bill so that I know. Had to find out through the humiliating experience of being sent for collection. Not to mention, each agent that I had spoken to before told me a different thing. I've been a top tier customer with Optimum for years. I live in Co-op City. At times we've paid our bill late, but when you pay it the service comes back within a few minutes. 30 tops. Now I'm being told it will be on between 24 to 48 hours. During a pandemic?! Where everything is online including work? Their customer service is horrendous. Ask to speak to a supervisor? Good luck. If they don't ask their friends to pretend they are the supervisor you'll get a song and dance as to how only they know the information and no one else in the company can help you. Co-op City is being held hostage by this company. Its time for a change. Even a dish would be better than this at this point. During our next director's meeting I will ask to change this monopoly. I have gone from an unhappy new customer to an irate new customer. I received the equipment in mid-June and started using the service one week ago when I moved into my new apartment. I should not have had to literally make about 15 phone calls for problems with the service and the remotes. Moving is stressful enough. Today I had a service appointment for between 2 and 5 pm. Not only did nobody show up but nobody communicated with me in any way, shape or form to let me know what was happening. I was able to sign into my account to see that they changed the appointment to 7:25. Again, nobody showed up and there was zero communication. They changed the appointment, unbeknownst to me one last time to 8:53 but wait, there's more...after being inconvenienced for much of the day into the late evening, they CANCELLED the appointment. I was a loyal customer for 20 years. When my bill increased another $10 since the last month, I called to get it lowered. I called several times--no luck. They couldn't help me. They told me the only thing I could do was to return my modem for a savings of $10 a month. (My bill was $157 with basic cable, phone, and wonky internet.) So, I got Verizon Fios.
