Appointment time 12 noon, still no doctor at 1pm. If you…read moredon't mind waisting your day this is the place for you. I will find another doctor rather than rebooking here

It took me two months to get this appointment through the VA because they initially referred me to…read morea male doctor, even though I specifically requested a female provider. So I really needed this appt. I arrived 15 minutes early for my 1:30 appointment, as instructed, to complete paperwork. The waiting area was covered with signs listing patient "do's and don'ts," which already felt unwelcoming. It took until 1:45 to finish filling out the excessive amount of forms. After that, I waited another 10 minutes before being called back. The exam room was small maybe five feet across from the back medical staff office and I could hear every word being said by staff and other patients in surrounding rooms. Masks were required and with how hot the room was, wearing one only made it more uncomfortable. Just like the waiting room, the exam room walls were plastered with "rules," and the chairs were fabric-covered and noticeably stained, adding to the discomfort. After a long wait, the doctor finally came in. I explained my health concerns, but she was dismissive and didn't seem to take anything I said seriously. "Every veteran has PTSD", "Everyone has scalp issues". She then told me to change into a paper gown and left the room. I changed in under a minute and sat waiting another 15 minutes for her to return. During the exam, about 10 minutes in, she started coughing, left the room abruptly without closing the door, and left me exposed in a thin paper gown where other patients and staff could clearly see into the room. I had to get up myself to close the door. As I began changing back into my clothes, she suddenly came back leaving the door open again and allowing her male nurse to see me while I was only halfway dressed. It was completely embarrassing and unprofessional. To make matters worse, she tried to blame me for her coughing, saying it was likely due to me having cats, and actually told me that next time I should avoid petting them before my appointments, as if I roll around with my cat before leaving the house. I couldn't wait to get out of that office. I left feeling unheard and angry. I've since requested that all my care be referred back to the VA and that I be assigned a new primary provider. This was, without a doubt, one of the top worst healthcare experiences I've ever had. I rather deal with the VA than to come back here.
