Only open Thursday 4 PM - 10:30 PM, Friday 12 PM - 10:30 PM, and Saturday 12 PM - 10:30 PM (as of 16 July 2023), I was glad to be free and in the area during operating hours. While the televisions inside blaring sport ball (the tennis?) weren't to my liking, staff were absolutely lovely, and so were the beers. I sampled tastes of the Pina Vs (Pineapple & Papaya Gose) and guest tap Yonder Brewing's Salted Caramel Mango Banana Daiquiri to start. The complex, layered Daiquiri won and at a half pint was the perfect amount. After that I tried the Panama Creature gluten free XPA (crisp and refreshing with balanced hippiness), an apple cider (sweet and funky on the nose), and old favourite Gosnell's honey mead (also on tap). Wanted a glass full of something new, but settled on the delightful mead in the end for another half pint because it just hit the spot. The friends I were with collectively tried the gose and all three specialist stouts on tap (Cake Metropolis Chocolate Fudge Cake Stout, Don't Quit Vanilla Pecan Pie Imperial Stout, and Crunch Peanut Butter Milk Stout). They ordered the gose, DQ, and Crunch. Unfortunately, all three of the latter are brewed with lactose so being lactose intolerant I could only have small tastes--which were scrumptious. We didn't order pizzas, but they smelled good! Sitting outdoors on a breezy day was a bit chilly but that was ok. We appreciated the shade covers to block the sun and only wished there was an outdoor non-smoking area for fresh air without the tobacco infusion. Win on the all-gender restrooms and the cans of beer to-go. Pretty sure I'll be back.

In operation since 2014, the brewery hosts a makeshift taproom that opens its doors to the public once a month. Spread across the warehouse floor space, wooden banquet tables are lined up, allowing punters to sit in the midst of a working brewery. Within eyesight, the brewing kit and production lines sit- and are best viewed from the bar itself. For drinks, nine taps host a fresh selection of Hammerton's range, which represents a wide spectrum of styles- from their Blanche Belgian witbier to their Pentonville oyster stout. Their N7.7 is a DIPA that is particularly noteworthy, exhibiting a remarkably balanced flavour profile of tropical notes and a crisp bitter finish that cleverly disguises its ABV of nearly 8%. The setting is spacious and a bit rough and ready, but it's a great way to enjoy the beer- amongst convivial people, knowledgeable bar staff and in the environs of the brewing space. There is always a street food vendor on hand to keep the hunger pangs at bay and some al fresco drinking space. As it's literally a jaunt from the Caledonian Road & Barnsbury station on the overground- it's worth hanging on a few stations from Hackney Wick to visit this great imbibing space away from East London.

The store is cosy and attractively filled with wine, beer and spirits. Props to them for stocking a decent assortment of single malts and Elijah Craig, a bourbon I very much enjoy. They need to ditch the "gold" Cuervo as it's rot-gut and stock some El Jimador or Don Julio, if they can. Casadores is my jam, but "I'm not in Kansas anymore, Toto", so I know that shipping over good tequila is super expensive, and, therefore, a financial drag. Jensen, a locally distilled gin, was looking pretty interesting at 27.99 a bottle, but I'm still in love with Sipsmith, so when the bloom is off that rose I'll be checking J out. Having described (maybe not well enough?) what I don't like in a Chard (read: not buttery, not oaked) I was recommended a few different wines that might fit the bill. Sadly, the one I did pick out of those recommended is somewhat oaked and buttery with hints in vanilla. It's an interesting wine, but not the "old world" mineral-like white Burgundy I had hoped for.

It is always reassuring when the proprietors are willing to let you try before you buy! The wine is arranged by style, making a welcome change from the traditional regional format. This encourages you to move away from tried and tested favourites and into something new. I found a couple of interesting bottles to take home with plenty of others left on the shelves. The beer is hidden around the corner in the shop and appears to be a fast moving regularly changing selection from both the breweries that are nearby (Meantime and Hop Stuff) and those from further afield. Again a selection now sits in the fridge. All of the above points to a good shop. What made it excellent for me was the service. Friendly, informed and engaging - I can't wait to go back already.

I attended my tasting on a Wednesday afternoon. This particular tasting was a BYOB (bring your own baby)! It was an awesome opportunity for moms to get together with their babies, de stress from motherhood over a couple glasses of wine. I however, did not have a baby (as I was solo traveling) and was welcomed widely by the staff and all the moms. I even got to hold a few babies lol. This tasting was extremely affordable we were offered 4 wines throughout the 3 hours as well as small bites for £25 . The staff were extremely extremely knowledgeable and true experts at their craft. They talked extensively about the wines, their origin, ways to pair, fermentation and more! Their passion really allowed for a good experience. As a solo traveler in London looking for a fun midday midweek activity I was left extremely impressed and happy! Highly recommend.

I've only been in there once but the wine they recommended for our pasta was rich and the perfect compliment. The staff (I've only met one but she talks very personally and highly of the owner too) really know their wine and are proper extroverts. They'll recite a novel for you on their wine selection so you can find exactly what you're looking for. They really pride themselves on vintage wines. They have done a great job of networking with and seeking out very unique, kind of "indie" wines. One of the coolest things about this shop, and something I have yet to experience, are their wine tasting events. Occasionally they will invite a wine maker to promote his wine and offer free tasting. Bottle Apostle does so many things so well, it's a wonder that people don't flock in from all…read morepoints west to take advantage of something here. Firstly, as a wine shop, it's terrific. They provide a good sampling of various types and regions (from complex Bordeaux to sakes), and everyone there is able to speak with some knowledge about any of the offerings (inc a limited selection of spirits and liqueurs as well). The manager of the shop is so well-spoken and knowledgeable about the offerings, you can't help but to wonder where he finds the time to do anything else with himself! The shop also offers a series of supper clubs in the downstairs area, and these events are terrific. We just attended a 5-course vegetarian meal with wine pairings by an up-and-coming chef who'd done time in some of London's best kitchens--and it was such a great experience. The wine was well-paired and explained, and the food was sensational. Plus the friendly ambiance and setting just made for a perfect evening. This shop just adds to the embarrassment of riches in this area, and especially on cold winter's days, I'm very grateful for its proximity to home!

This is one of the newest additions to Victoria Park Village - a boutique independent wine shop on…read morethe site of one of the original reasons to visit this area - Frocks restaurant, which closed earlier this year. The transformation is remarkable and this new store is well laid out and full of hard-to-find and specialist wines, many of which you can try using their novel Enomatics machines - self-service wine machines. You buy a top-up card and start sampling. I went in on a whim and found myself asking for a very specific NZ Riesling - and came away with a bottle of Pikes 2008 Riesling from the Clare Valley in Australia, a great companion to Vietnamese food from Namo, around the corner. There are wine tastings and events on the way.
