It truly makes such a difference when we come together as a community to help those in need. They make everything so easy and everyone here is always so welcoming! Stephanie and Jason are the two that are usually in the front helping you check in, so I have been able to talk to them the most. They both have such kind hearts and always make sure your experience here is great. Everything works smoothly here and the staff explain what to do perfectly. You start by watching a video that talks more about what Second Harvest is and what to expect during your volunteer shift. My personal favorite is grocery rescue, which is where you go to the cooler in the back and sort the good and the bad items that they receive from grocery stores. There are plenty of other options, depending on the day, like order pulling, crate washing, processing, bag cutting, etc. These are just some of the opportunities that they offer at the distribution center. They also have their own farm where you can spend your time picking the produce straight from the ground! Overall, this is such a great place to volunteer at. In the warehouse, they also show where all their products get distributed to. Below is a list of all the food banks in the area, if you ever need it!

Part II of Sidney Writes About Doing Good The Roger Kiser quote completely devastated me the first time that I read it. And I'm not ashamed to admit that I cried. It crystallized for me everything I felt growing up...everything that I wanted in this life. I grew up in a broken home...never knew my Father...my mom was a struggling single mom with two kids. She worked full time, and then being a child of the 60's, partied like that was her second full time job. I knew with my son, that I had to be 100% different...that even though my relationship did not work out, he would always know the unconditional love and support that I never had. He is indeed lucky that he has two parents that love and adore him very much. It also explains why I feel so strongly that everyone needs to give back to their community. This whole nonsense of "I Built That" is just that: nonsense. So much of one's success is nothing more than an accident of birth (not that enough people get that). I always want to ask the typical OC preening peacock: What if you were born a slave? Or a Chinese peasant? Or a woman in the Dark Ages? Or in the middle of the Somalian or Congo Civil War? How magnificent would you be then? It is what I try and teach my son especially since he is growing up in the bubble of the OC with no real wants or needs unmet. He got lucky with two loving parents who adore him and who have the financial resources to take care of him. Corazon de Vida Foundation supports a dozens orphanages in Baja California. Per the website: "As some background, Mexico does not have a foster care system to support children in need due to neglect, abuse, or abandonment. There is no welfare system to help families with a single parent that is unable to provide for their children. So, the only way to support families and children in need is through a network of orphanages. At last count, there are approximately 50 orphanages in Baja California, Mexico. Most are located close to the border because most of their support comes from the US." They run several trips a month to the homes where individuals or groups can visit the children (and play and interact) or do needed service. You can also sponsor a child, donate online, host a party or make a difference in a variety of other ways. Now, many of my Yelp friends enjoy Sababa in Long Beach. Hi, I am a member of…read morethe Apartment Association of Orange County. I mostly use their services to screen tenants for my rentals. The goods: Screen Services which include credit checks, eviction records, criminal background checks etc. The association's magazine with helps to educate rental property owners so they do not run a foul of new laws Classes - They have classes each month to help me run better rentals and increase my bottom line. Service - if you come into their office, they are Incredibly Nice. The bads: Communication. They are horrible at returning emails. You might as well just wait and call and ask for what you need. Communication: They are not very through when they give you directions. Sometimes you have to ask two or three times to get a complete answer. Communication: Unless you come into the office, they seem to be short and act like you are bothering you with your questions. The apartment association of Orange County provides and invaluable services to owners with limited rental properties. It is just too bad their service to the members is so atrocious! Just ok.... too bad cause this could easily be a 5 star organization!

I had a chance to work with Make A Wish for their Walk for Wishes event this past weekend at Great…read morePark in Irvine and it was a complete joy to work with Jessica, Seylah, Noel, and more of the MAW members from OC/IE! They booked our photo booth for their event and Jessica gave clear updates all the way through from t-shirt sizes to map directions. Their dedication and hard working team was present and all the way there to make this incredible event unfold from 6 AM until the late afternoon. Clearly, they're underrated for their professionalism on this Yelp site, but the credit is beyond due for them. I witnessed in awe as even extreme weather conditions like 25 mph winds didn't deter them from feeling discouraged. Nope. They just swooped their team up and made fast-thinking decisions to make sure the event happened on time and it did - perfectly. I ran into a small issue for needing an electrical outlet source and Seylah was quick to get permission from the venue supervisors and brought back two extension cords. It may seem like a little situation, but I was truly impressed by the way she thought ahead and got extra for me. A huge thanks to the MAW team for continuously checking up on me (one of MANY vendors who were out at this event including hundreds of guests) and my team to make sure we were doing okay and whether we needed anything else from them. The whole event went by beautifully with their energy. MAW members were dancing, laughing, and smiling throughout and it's just contagious to see. Their friendly support to even remember "little ol' me" meant so much and I will forever remember this! :) THANK YOU again and hope to work with you guys again soon!
